All on LTE. Never on wifi. I've noticed my battery life is heavily impact on wifi compared to LTE. Don't know why wifi drains the battery faster. Weird. 12/14/2012 4:11:51 PM |

Does the choice between the S3 and Note II really just come down to size preference? Seems like hardware-wise it's splitting hairs. I'm about to upgrade from my Razr, just not sure whether to get one of those two, or if something else is about to be released in the next few weeks that I should wait for. I can also get the S3 for $50 tomorrow at Best Buy, so I'm leaning towards that right now (at the cost of dropping from unlimited to 2GB, which is inevitable, and I use <1GB a month as is).

Still using my DX2 (that replaced my DX1 when I cracked the screen). In some ways I'd like to get another one but I don't feel like paying for it or paying for non-unlimited data either. It's good enough just a tad slow at times now - might even just be worth it to pull pictures and other files off and just do a factory reset to try and speed it up. 12/18/2012 1:02:59 PM |

Google is working on building their own phone, 'X Phone', to compete with Apple and Samsung.
Quote : | "Google is putting its acquisition of Motorola to use by building a powerful new device known internally as the 'X phone' to compete with offerings from Apple and Samsung, according to a new report.
The Wall Street Journal reported that engineers at Motorola are working hard on the new handset, to be released some time next year. It will mark the first time that Google has built a phone with struggling Motorola, which it acquired for $12.5 billion. Motorola will continue to produce devices for its carrier partner Verizon, while also devoting resources to the 'X' partnership with Google -- a partnership that will eventually include a tablet as well, according to the Journal." |

Gruber's analysis of that report was spot on [quote]Sounds terribly exciting at first glance. Finally, Google’s real plan for Motorola: a secret new phone and tablet that will change everything! But it’s all just vapor. There’s nothing specific in this report. The whole thing boils down to someone from Motorola telling Efrati that they’re trying to make a great new phone for next year. As though that’s any different than what everyone else is doing.
What would be insane, considering how Apple and Samsung are dominating the handset market, would be if Motorola sources told the Journal that they’re not working on anything to rival Apple and Samsung. Just keep in mind the rule of vaporware: there’s an enormous chasm between “We’re working on something” and “We have something ready to sell”.[quote] 12/25/2012 11:54:32 PM |

does anyone use an app to back up their phone (including all data - from apps, contacts, SMS/MMS, call log, pictures, etc) to the cloud (preferably box)...an app that ISN'T titanium?
because aside from the fact that the person/team who makes titanium clearly has no capacity for design, it keeps bitching at me that it can't upload because of some data thing (despite the fact that i'm on wifi when it complains)
i know tibu is the end-all/be-all, but i think it kinda sucks for the one thing i want it for
sandisk's memory zone is okay, but i don't think it does incremental backups, nor can you schedule a specific time for it to do the updates (it just defaults to the same time that you did the first one)
i really like mybackup (pro or the free version), but i don't think you can upload to your own cloud services, just to theirs 1/16/2013 1:25:10 PM |

Been using My Backup Pro since the OG Droid days and haven't been disappointed. It's limited to either phone storage or MyBackup online storage as you said though. Comes with 92MB of space before you would have to buy more. Suppose you could just manually upload the files to dropbox but that requires a bit more work. 1/16/2013 1:37:57 PM |
quagmire02 All American 44225 Posts user info edit post |
^ mybackup pro would be ideal because I already like what it does and how it does it...except for the uploading part
maybe there's an app that will automatically upload anything in a folder on your phone to cloud service of your choice? kinda like how dropbox works on a computer...except that i'd really rather use box since i have 50GB there 1/16/2013 1:40:00 PM |

I'll point out Folder Sync since it might work for someone else's uses (dont think it does most of what you're looking for)

^ i don't know...it might do the second option (keep a folder on my SD card synced with the cloud service)
EDIT: actually, it looks like it might work perfectly...with the free version of foldersync, too
there's no version control, though that wasn't really something i was too concerned about as i want to back up data and that's comparatively small...i might care eventually, though

What keyboards are you all using? I'm on Swiftkey now, but on my 4.1 GNex, after coming out of sleep mode the suggestions/corrections don't work until you get rid of the keyboard and then bring it back. I can't figure out a fix, so I'm looking for a replacement.

Not sure what you mean by version control... but DataSync will verify last modified timestamps and attempt to make an intelligent decision on which way to Sync, or it will ask you, or you can manually specify the sync-direction. Also, it can sync between devices if you want to skip the cloud.
DataSync Beta (don't get the original or + yet as this is the new upcoming version) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quintstoffers.DataSync.beta
Reasons I like: - Offers cloud syncing to Box, Dropbox (which I use), and FTP/S - It syncs by folders and/or applications (which includes data + .apk) - Only syncs if changes detected - Syncs between devices on same Wifi or by Bluetooth - Clean interface
Note: this version is still in beta so you might find a bug, but I've not lost any data yet.

Quote : | "This morning, Koush released an updated version of Carbon, his backup app that has been making the rounds and receiving a lot of great attention. In this update, he has allowed non-rooted users to get into the game, with the help of a desktop application that is easily installed on your computer. With this app, every Android user (rooted and non-rooted) can backup apps and app data easily and safely.
Koush mentions that this beta will expire January 30, but he intends to have a version on Google Play before then. There will be a paid version and a free version, so we await that release." |

anyone here (still) use a bionic? nabbed one off CL for $60 (with accessories...it's been in an otterbox since day 1 and so the phone itself is immaculate)...sadly, this will be an upgrade from my bolt
some quick googling indicates that the bionic is capable of being a world phone (CDMA and GSM)...and as such, you can throw in an AT&T SIM, as well as using it with straight talk...if that's the case, i'm kinda thrilled
have to go pick up another 4G SIM (lost the first one when my bolt when missing...the CSR from VZW said that customers are entitled to 2 free cards for every 12-month span), but then i'm gonna root, install CWM (unless 4EXT works with it), and start playing around
