cocktail shrimp are the worst and I like shrimp. They never fill you up no matter how many you eat and they're cold wet, jiggly things when you think about it. Ew??

edit: well mostly i just use cocktail shrimp as a vehicle for horseradish sauce to my mouthhhh

the concept of the cocktail shrimp is pretty passe

a few decades ago, shrimp were expensive, and considered quite the luxury item.

this is when they became prevalent in the "shrimp cocktail" you're used to seeing, or as hors d'œuvres...

in the early 1900s it was a pretty swanky thing to do, and serve.. with a spicy tomato based sauce... OHH IMPRESSIVE THE HOST IS SERVING SHRIMP, WE BALLIN' NOW

in fact, i've read where the traditional serving of the shrimp rimming a high ball glass started during prohibition.

however, today, while shrimp have become very cheap protein, the allure is lost... and they've become just a cheap and easy item to sling out instead of a legit, more modern canapé (with or without shrimp)
