Well, no offense, but you've also never seen me in person... I don't really know what to tell you besides the fact that I told the doctor 130-135 was my ultimate goal and she basically told me hell no and to shoot for 145 (then said the emaciated comment).

Great.

Don't use weight as a measurement for your progress. Instead, look at how you look and feel. Use physical exercise achievements (like running a 5k in under 30 minutes). Once you do this, you'll stress out a lot less and get what you want.

EDIT: I know I said on the last page that I had a goal of 159, but I try not to use my weight as a measuring stick. I set fitness goals for myself as well, like lifting a certain amount of weight or biking a certain distance. I just know that once I achieve those goals, if I'm not at 159 I need to set those fitness goals even higher.

And heck, if I see myself and think "Damn, I look good," and I weigh in at 165, then I'll be fine like that.

I always thought body frame size was determined by the circumference around your wrist.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/imagepages/17182.htm

Quote :
"Body frame size is determined by a person's wrist circumference in relation to his height. For example, a man whose height is over 5' 5" and wrist is 6" would fall into the small-boned category.

Determining frame size: To determine the body frame size, measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small, medium, or large boned.

Women:

* Height under 5'2"
o Small = wrist size less than 5.5"
o Medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"
o Large = wrist size over 5.75"
* Height 5'2" to 5' 5"
o Small = wrist size less than 6"
o Medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"
o Large = wrist size over 6.25"
* Height over 5' 5"
o Small = wrist size less than 6.25"
o Medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"
o Large = wrist size over 6.5"

Men:

* Height over 5' 5"
o Small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"
o Medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
o Large = wrist size over 7.5"
"

My wrists are 6.5" exactly, which would put me exactly at the large body frame category for my height.

Is this not accurate?

Also, ^^ Gabi Reece is HAWT.

Using the dollar bill measurement, I'm at least a Medium frame and possibly a Large frame. Probably a medium frame in all actuality.

Yeah that measurement system is probably BS

Especially since people look at frame sizes for an excuse. It's just one in a bingo game of excuses.

"I just give up! I can't ever look great because I

a) have large hips
b) have muscular thighs
c) have a large frame
d) was always big as a child"

Wrist measurement is how I've always been taught.

I have really tiny hands/wrists (6'' circumference) for being so tall, so those charts always consider me small framed.

I completely agree with you God. When I was 260lbs. I thought "hey, I'm just big-boned and I can't be at a normal weight. Then I lost 70lbs. and am actually healthy.

I think there's an element of truth to the charts. I'm considered large framed according to the charts. I'm at a healthy BMI for my height, but a couple of my ribs are visible at my current weight. If I dip to the lowest BMI measurement, you can seriously count all of my ribs.

I guess the key is to just shoot for a goal of how you look and feel rather than how you measure up to the norm. BC the norm ain't so normal.

I get what you're saying about your own body, but BMI was a measurement invented by a mathematician in the 19th century to quickly categorize people.

And like I said, it utterly fails when looking at actual athletes.

This man had a BMI of about 30 and is considered "obese":

"quagmire, I really think you should reconsider training legs, for body comp down the road, metabolism, future strength loss (although i'm willing to be you already are), and to promote better hormone and test levels.

Your ideas about timing and sets/reps is spot on. Although, if you are only going to do 4 exercises for the upper body, I would either do a horizontal row, hor. pull, vert. press, and a vert. pull (your tri's/bi's/forearms will get work via the larger compound movements) OR alt. between a vert. push, vert. pull, bi, tri AND hor. push, hor. pull, bi's, tri's. The latter of the 2 for upper body work would be for arm vanity.

For incorporating legs, I'd pick one of the above, and alternate between squats, lunges, or deads before doing upper body. I'd rather you do more leg work, but one exercise would be a HUGE step in the right direction."

thanks for the suggestions...i obviously don't know much about working out in general...i just figured that since my legs are pretty toned (i assumed from all of the backpacking and biking i do), i could ignore them for the moment...i'll revise my workout tomorrow since i usually skip thursdays

Dear TDub Fitness Gurus:

Inspired by Joie's abs, I want advice. How do I target the pooch, love handles and upper thighs? I know people always say you can't spot reduce and that the only way to get a flat tummy is to lose weight, but I'm afraid that I'll lose the rest of my chest if I diet more. Are there good exercises to target these areas?

As you can see, I seriously DO NOT want to lose mass on my upper body. But the pooch just won't go away. My workouts tend to be distance running, Bikram Yoga and wakeboarding/wakesurfing. I've tried P90X ... but it kind of bores me. Is there something else that I can do to get a tummy like Joie's? Would insanity shape those spots? Or are there other alternatives that aren't super time-consuming?

Also, please forgive my streaky mirror. Apparently my glass cleaner doesn't leave a streak-free shine.

It honestly looks like your bathing suit bottoms are too tight causing that weird muffin top look.

I might also suggest squats. If your thighs get bigger, the rest will look smaller.
