I have a Nikon D-40 with the standard 18-55mm lens. Was thinking about getting a little step up on the lens. Any opinions on the 55-200mm lens? Worth the $200 bucks?

marginally better quality but what are you going to do if you need less than 55mm?

^ swap them out I suppose. I'm not sure how often I want to zoom out that far. I'm always wanting to get closer it seems

i'd go with the 70-300mm over the 55-200mm, but i assume you're looking for an AF lens and those are $vermont...if not AF, 70-300mm can be had for $80 or less

you'd be better served in the long run by selling your D40 and picking up a D90 so you can use the cheaper lenses...i was told this a number of times when i had my D40 and while i like how cheap (cost-wise) and light and small the D40 is, i wouldn't go back

i'd think you could get $300 for your D40 and lens...i picked up my D90 with 18-105mm and 70-300mm lenses for about $650 (i think) off CL...granted, that was a really good deal, especially since the D7000 hadn't been released, but the deals are out there if you're patient

this is a student movie i directed photography on back in early 2010. I am much improved since then. I still like the last shot a whole lot though. shot on a 7D:

http://www.vimeo.com/22447124

it really needs some color correction still

I'll have two more shorts done with post-production within the next month.

Pretty cool filum. Why was that lady hating om the kid so hard? And why did he have a fridge in his shithole room. The present was obvious though.

Anybody go shoot at RDU? I took my D80 and the 70-300 lens and spent a couple hours shooting on the observation deck, and then did a little exploring to find other locations to shoot. I found one other spot near a private hanger, but has anybody shot out there and got any locations that may not be well known but can get some good views that won't get you in trouble with airport security?

I'm incredibly entry level to this, but I just bought a Nikon 3100 with both the 18-55 lens + the 55-200mm lens.

I bought filters as well, but I really have no clue what in the fuck I'm doing.

This should be good though...right on time for my trip to South Africa this weekend.

I have now added the AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens to my collection. Love how good it is. Through it on my D40 when the 80 was out of juice and recharging and couldn't believe how good it looked, even on that older body.

Just found what's probably the most rarely seen snake in SC a couple of nights ago, which I'm sure doesn't help most people appreciate it any more than any other snake. I've been hoping to find this species for a long time, took it out for a couple of quick shots on a crappy background while playing with my homemade ring light.

Rainbow snake

That's a sweet fucking picture.

I feel like it could be a columbia and/or camelbak add.

Lastly, your friend is hot.

^ yeah, she is hot. I think she actually used to date someone that was on here - I met her at the NC State alumni association meeting in Denver.

That's a cyanotype preset from Lightroom 3 that gave the blue hue, and a little vignetting at the edges.

Every year as the weather gets warm at the end of ski season, my friends do a onesie/costume day. This is a shot I took with the 50mm prime, f/16, ISO 100 (which was way too low, even for bright light, but it was my first time doing action shots) It's exactly as shot.

Anyone have a Canon compatible flash for sale/borrow currently? I'd really like to have an extra one in the bag as a back up this weekend.

All shot last night w/ D700 24-120. All pier ones are 1 minute exposures, Wright Memorial one is 135s. f8 or f11, most 200 ISO and a few 400 ISO.
