I'm certainly not of the mind that we should be making knee-jerk reactions based on any game. If we struggle throughout this season, then Yow has to take a serious look at our options. And I really take issue with all these fools that thought we were going to run train with no depth and three freshmen.

Sid isn't tourney or bust. If we fall short, but actually play good ball and the freshmen show growth under his system, then he's worth bringing back. You've got to be realistic in your expectations and observations. I think Sid gets guys on the right track to become good players. Look at what he's done with Tracy and Javi (forget tonight) and even Painter who looks much better than last season. I think he can teach and coach and I'm waiting to proven otherwise.

I think you need to look on the last damn page, I didn't keep beating any drum after your post I trolled simonn about Seth Greenberg. And what point is it I'm supposed to bow down to? That our 15-16 season didn't completely suck because we beat Davidson or Va Tech? That's a pretty fucking stupid point. Maybe this game isn't a harbinger for how the rest of the season will turn out like that game was, but making that comparison really isn't helping your argument. And again I never said our season is over, just that you can't be optimistic about our NCAA chances after this loss and that's completely fucking reasonable.

I'm honestly starting to question why I care so much about sports in general. I can't control this shit, and it's always the same story with State. I've been a state fan all my life and the best we can hope for is the one aberration where we perform above expectations.

There are actually a lot of good points being made in this thread.

I agree with Ernie in that one game, no matter how bad, doth a season make. I mean, (IMO) Bill Belichick is by far the best coach in the NFL, and the Pats got blown out by the Cleveland Browns earlier in the year. Nobody was clammoring to fire him though.

I also agree with GenghisJohn in that rooting for NC State gets old. it's the same shit each and every year. We struggle and struggle and maybe make a shitty bowl or weasel our way into the NCAA tourney, only to be one and done, and those are our good seasons. That's why I still cheer heavily for the teams I did as a kid with my dad (Notre Dame and WVU in football, Indiana and WVU in basketball). I do cheer for state and hope to God they win each time, but every fucking season is a disappointment. It gets old.

And I also agree (to a point) with everyone who says we should fire Lowe. Well, here's what I mean. I don't think Lowe is a great coach. Right now, I don't even think he is a good coach. I do not think he can or will ever lead us to anything even resembling a shot at a National Championship. But on the same token, I don't know how much better we can do. The great thing about Sidney Lowe is that he is an alumni, so even if he were to do good, he's probably not going to leave NC State for a "better" opportunity. The fact is, the chances of us getting a high caliber coach that sticks around for more than a year after his "breakout season" are pretty close to 0. So maybe, sticking with Lowe in case he actually figures out how to coach fundamentals might be the answer. Or we can let him go, and hire another idiot who bumbles around for 5 years before we decide to fire him. Neither option seems that good. It's like someone asking me if I want to be punched in the face or kicked in the balls.

I was out to dinner last night, trying to rush to either get to a bar or get back home to watch most of the game. I had my phone next to me checking the scores. I saw where we down 5 early, then 10 pretty fast, at that point I said "fuck it" and ordered a bottle of wine. Saw we were getting doubled up at half time and decided to have an after dinner drink at another bar. Thank god my evening didn't revolved around that game.

Normally I wouldn't comment on a game if I didn't see it, but after getting worked by 40 points and seeing the shit everyone is posting (plus I watched the team live 3 times when they were in Charleston), I think I get a pass.

This might not be a tournament or bust year for Sidney, but it honestly should be and hopefully Yow will have a lot more balls than Fowler ever had. We have an extremely solid team with enough talent to actually make things happen. We have depth and talent at all positions (the bench isn't always "talented" but it's serviceable).

This is Sidney's team. Everyone on the team is someone he has personally selected and recruited. I've never been completely "anti-Sid" but I've always doubted his coaching abilities. We have had little "spurts" over the years where we show promise, but never anything consistent and nothing that has shown me that he's ready and capable to be a solid coach at the NCAA level. I was excited about this year and was hoping that maybe he could make that turn and be that coach. But that's definitely in doubt. I'm not saying the season is already lost so early, but its difficult to stay excited after a 40 point beatdown. Good teams can get blown out by 20...not 40.

So this is definitely disheartening, but I'm not giving up yet. But Sidney still has a lot to prove.

We were missing our best player (most experienced, best at scoring against a set defense, and best rebounder) and got WORKED OVER by the officials (both our centers had 2 fouls called on them in the first 10 minutes after that the wheels fell off). I just hope the team doesn't allow this to get into their heads. It is on to the next one at this point.
