Today, the shuffle: "it holds 15 hours of music."
But ^^^ answers my question. I've never used iTunes, so I didn't know that.
Sucks though. What's the bitrate stuck at??

Stein, I've actually been streaming music to my AirPort Express using iTunes since the AirPort's been around, quite a bit longer than it's been available under Windows. What I'm referring to is streaming video/music/pictures from my iPhone to the end device, which used to be just my Zeppelin, but will also include the HDTV soon. The ability to look at pictures/track video, youtube, etc. from nothing more than my phone, wirelessly on the big screen is a huge plus. I'm actually rather excited with the picture and video quality on the iPhone4 as well. Happy camper! 9/1/2010 2:56:43 PM |

El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
I'm not sure how you get "pretty much so jailbroken already" from anything in that link. Their only source of actual information was a tweet from musclenerd saying that there would be a jailbreak IF comex could "pull the trifecta" He then goes on to say hole !=exploit which suggests that while they may have found another hole, the actual jailbreak could take weeks or even months to code up (just like it did last time with jbme.com 2.0)
That being said, a couple of the big names have been talking about something very cool that Pod2G has came up with today, so I wouldn't be surprised if a JB is released soon after the official firmware hits. But that's just more speculation as well. ] 9/7/2010 11:10:39 PM |

Quote : | "The App Store? has revolutionized the way mobile applications are developed and distributed. With over 250,000 apps and 6.5 billion downloads, the App Store has become the world’s largest mobile application platform and App Store developers have earned over one billion dollars from the sales of their apps.
We are continually trying to make the App Store even better. We have listened to our developers and taken much of their feedback to heart. Based on their input, today we are making some important changes to our iOS Developer Program license in sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2 and 3.3.9 to relax some restrictions we put in place earlier this year.
In particular, we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need.
In addition, for the first time we are publishing the App Store Review Guidelines to help developers understand how we review submitted apps. We hope it will make us more transparent and help our developers create even more successful apps for the App Store.
The App Store is perhaps the most important milestone in the history of mobile software. Working together with our developers, we will continue to surprise and delight our users with innovative mobile apps." |

this isn't completely limited to iphone, but that is the device i want to use in this situation, so here we go...
i have a factory install ipod dock connector in my glove box. it's 4 years old and doesn't work with my iphone (not that i'd want to ride around w/ it in there anyway) or the ipod touch. i had been using an older ipod with it, but the cable has somehow magically dry rotted or something and doesn't work anymore. i've started using the regular little headphone/aux jack and plugging it into my iphone.
the awesome thing about the dock connector was that i could skip songs w/ the buttons on the steering wheel. now the only way i can skip songs is to double click the button, look down for the little next arrow, and tap. looking down isn't very safe. is there a headphone type cable that has song controls (physical buttons) built in? something like the little control on the apple headphones would be perfect. i haven't seen one online yet but i'm not really sure what to call it either.
or if i could get 2 sets of those crappy apple headphones w/ controls, can i splice them to have a male end on both ends?

^^^^ see the conversation starting with message_topic.aspx?topic=455104&page=136#13895113 for more info on why this was a controversial move when it was announced in april. it basically meant people who wanted to write iOS apps with tools like Adobe Flash, were no longer permitted to do so. it led to Adobe cancelling development of the product that allowed developers to do so. i wouldn't be surprised to see them start it up again though

Anyone have 3G issues in Charlotte? I'm not getting any data or really slow data. Couple other people have mentioned it. My Time Warner Cable at my house is also out. Weird. Probably unrelated unless everything's going to shit. 9/15/2010 9:12:28 AM |

I have an issue with my iPhone 3Gs. For some reason my phone chugs battery and will die in about 5 hours time, even when it's just sitting. Used to be able to leave it without charging at least a night; so it would run 2 days without charging. Now I can have 100% charged, leave it off the charger; and in the morning it will be about dead. What gives? 9/15/2010 10:14:04 AM |

mine does the same thing. I think its because i get shitty signal in both my home and work office so the wireless is running the radio constantly trying to connect to the network. 9/15/2010 10:27:41 AM |
neodata686 All American 11577 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah that makes sense. Mine did that last night. Went from 97% to 66% over about 7 hours. Typically you should be able to let the phone sit for a good day and it won't drop but maybe 3% unless it's constantly trying to reconnect. My phone's battery last night might have been due to the modem or router going in and out. I don't know.

^^^ Check the usage monitor on your phone (Settings -> General -> Usage) at the top where it has the Usage and Standby numbers, if they're the same, something is messed up in the software and its running the radio all the time. Sync/Backup, restore and try reloading your backup. If that doesn't work and the numbers are still the same, Sync/Backup, restore and set up as a new phone (make sure you write down any important notes/sms before hand)

My 3GS's power button, volume buttons, and mute toggle all decided to stop working today.
Looking around online, getting them wet seems to be the only cause, but I can't think of when my phone would have gotten wet any time recently. I'm actually pretty paranoid about it since I've had the phone for under a year.
Did a restore on it, nothing changed except that restoring from the backup failed to actually restore anything on my phone except the wallpaper. 9/18/2010 7:46:17 PM |

i've had problems with an app disappearing when i plug the phone into the comp to charge. i had the quicktip app for several months, jailbroke the phone, decided to go back to factory settings b/c it was laggy & did a restore. allllll the other apps loaded fine. i finished the restore and started rearranging apps, then noticed quicktip wasn't there. i redownloaded it on the phone and it worked fine...until i plugged it in to charge it. now everytime i use the computer to charge, the app disappears. if i use the wall charger it's fine.

I've had the same thing happen on several occasions. It's something that iTunes is doing. When you plug in the iPhone, swipe the screen to cancel the automatic sync, then right click on the iPhone in iTunes and click Transfer purchases. Make sure the app you're trying to keep gets transferred over and it shows up in your library and it shouldn't get deleted on future syncs.

That's a good question. I had the original app store version that got pulled, and I had the version that got put up on Cydia, and I think I managed to use it a grand total of one time, and that was just to send a text message to someone when my Phone.app was screwed up. I think the only real reason to get excited about a google voice app would be if google released an official app that included the free VOIP calling that the desktop version of GChat has. But I doubt that will happen anytime soon. 9/19/2010 6:16:11 PM |
