^^^Got my Note 2 around the same time. Faster than when I got it. I use Nova Launcher. It's probably the fastest launcher out there. Also "BetterBatteryStats" is a great program for seeing exactly what is waking your phone up (screen off) and draining your battery. Click the "partial wakelocks" and it will list them in order. anyone still have a google tv? I got one because they're a lot cheaper than a slingcatcher and I set my thermostat from bed with it. I'd really like to be able to use the directv app on it, but it always crashes (had to sideload because device was incompatible) but other people are able to get it to work on various unsupported tablets. any idea what the hold up may be? 6/3/2013 10:35:24 AM |

the word in forums from big red corporate folks who appear to be in the know suggest that it will be gone by december...my contract expires at the end of this month and i'm just gonna keep my bionic until they kick me off unlimited
at which point, i'm hoping RW's new 4G phones will be available and i can move over to them (or enable the GSM radio in my bionic and go with ST)

are you rooted? do you have custom recovery installed? admittedly, i run into more issues because i'm a ROM junkie, but i've found that clearing the cache, dalvik cache, and fixing permissions will make my phone feel like a fresh install...without losing any of my data or apps
if nothing else, set cachecleaner NG (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lsartory.cachecleaner.ng) to run every day...if you have titanium backup, you should be able to clear the dalvik in android (rather than going through recovery)6/3/2013 10:44:17 AM |

i want to upgrade to a newer one, since the revue is struggling at this point, but i'm waiting on something with demonstrated compatibility with 4.2.x.

My 2 year is around then... I basically plan on waiting to see what they decide do.
My hope is any remaining unlimited data plans they force out, will get a slightly more favorable tier. I upgrade now I'm at 2gb same price, meanwhile they have plenty of 4 GB customers at that price. Not holding my breath.

i'd call it decent coverage. there's still room for improvement, and if s4gru is correct, then there's still plenty of towers left to be put up before they are done.
the only thing that annoys me is when my phone takes forever to fallback to 3G when a 4G tower isn't responding, but maybe that'll go away now that things are "live"

Quote : | "12:25 PM Samsung co-CEO JK Shin previously confirmed that the company is preparing to release a new version of the Galaxy S4 in South Korea that will be compatible with LTE-Advanced networks. The new technology will make the smartphone capable of delivering data speeds that are twice as fast as other models. According to a leaked owner manual, per RBMen, the Galaxy S4 LTE-A model will be upgraded to include a new, more powerful processor. The device will be equipped with a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, compared to the 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip found in the original Galaxy S4. The smartphone’s dimensions and other components were left unchanged. The Galaxy S4 LTE-A is expected to launch in South Korea later this month. " |

and for those of you who, like me, don't know the difference between LTE and LTE-A: http://gigaom.com/2011/02/08/lte-advanced/
Quote : | "LTE-Advanced is the next iteration of the Long Term Evolution Standard and can offer up to 1 Gbps speeds over a wireless signal for fixed mobile broadband on the download side and 100 Mbps for actual mobile broadband (like when you’re in your car or on a train.)
On the uplink side it can offer up to 200 Mbps for fixed mobile broadband. this is good for sending your content and videos back up to the web.
These theoretical speeds aren’t likely in the real world, because to deliver 1 Gbps speeds an operator would need 40 MHz of spectrum and 8×8 MIMO antenna solution, or about 100 MHz of spectrum without using MIMO, which is a lot of spectrum and eight antennas that would have to be crammed on both the base station and inside the device. However, because MIMO increases the capacity of the airwaves, it’s a question of when, not if operators will use it.
MIMO, or Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output, is an antenna technology by which LTE-Advanced will boost its capacity. MIMO is a way operators can use multiple antennas to enable more users to share a network because MIMO provides a more granular way for carriers to slice up and allocate spectrum between devices and the base station.
The future iterations of LTE will also be self optimizing and self-healing, meaning they will have the means to determine when a cell site goes down and be able to adapt to such a disruption. They will also be able to respond to changes in demand by taking corrective action such as adding power to a base stations or decreasing their radius of coverage.
LTE-Advanced will also include support for operators that want to use multiple bands of spectrum in their network. For example, for faster 3G networks Ericsson is helping T-Mobile and others use chunks of spectrum that aren’t next to one another to deliver the service. LTE-Advanced bakes that capability right into the spectrum. That’s a good thing, because for true gigabit wireless, operators will need lots of spectrum as I noted.
The standard won’t only support spectrum diversity, it is also likely to support easier handoffs between different networks in later iterations, such as a seamless transition between 3G, 4G and even Wi-Fi. That helps operators offload traffic for users and provide better quality of service.
LTE-Advanced will also boost capacity. The standard has the features mentioned above and others that will cram more bits into each hertz of spectrum, much like some Container Store associate can shove a truckload of goods into a $2,000 set of plastic shelves. That kind of cramming means it’s cheaper to send your emails, videos, photos and whatnot over mobile broadband networks and will enable carriers to keep up with growing data demand without going into the red.
On the backhaul side, the standard allows for some over-the-air backhaul via a macrocell or other base station, which doesn’t improve speeds or the number of bits one can cram into a megahertz, but should help operators reduce the cost of laying additional fiber or other circuits for backhaul.
The standard should be approved this year in March. By the end of 2013 through 2015 gear makers will start adding LTE-Advanced features to their products. But it will be 2017 or 2018 before operators will start deploying it widely in end-user devices according to telecommunications equipment makers. There will also be continual upgrades to the standard which adds new features." |

the thing is, there's always something better just over the horizon...right now, though, if i were in the market for a top-of-the-line phone and i was willing to be locked into a 2-year contract by letting the carrier subsidize the price, it would most certainly be a KLP unit
the differences between ICS and JB weren't huge (which was expected), though they were welcome...the differences between JB and KLP will likely be more significant (especially in terms of performance)
if it were 6 months away, that'd be one thing...but (personally), i'd hold out for 4 more months 6/21/2013 1:57:26 PM |

Eh probably $1400-1600. If it were $1000 I'd buy one. I doubt it though. Asus has this one as well:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7017/the-asus-transformer-book-trio-atom-haswell-android-windows-8
Interesting approach. Instead of using a single Haswell chip for both Win8 and Android it uses Haswell for Win8 and an Atom chip for Android.
It's interesting that Asus and Samsung are trying to gain traction in the convertible/touch screen market by including Android. I'd totally use Windows for work and Android for everything else. 6/23/2013 11:11:44 PM |
