just went to a few gun stores in the area, and they had just a small number of guns. Are there any stores in the area with a large selection?

Also, I'm looking forward to the gun show

5.56 was going for ~$1 per round at the Hickory show. Went in, found a Glock 26 at a decent price, and got the hell out....

just heard about this place in apex, barnes precision machine. Site is http://www.usamade-ar15parts.com

apparently the dude just does the machining, doesn't actually sell anything there. At any rate, homeskillet might be able to do what you're looking to do.

On another note, I want an M4/AR15, however I was waiting until later on (like 2014) before buying one because I wanted to have a gun safe first (live in townhouse, buying house in '14). However, due to the whole 'ban' thing, I'm thinking that if I'm gonna get one I'd better get it soon even though I'll probably not shoot it or anything for a year.

What say you my fellow shooters, should I get one now or will this ban not be happening? (I have many 30 round mags thanks to my many years in the army, so not worried about them) If the ban isn't gonna happen or whatever, then I'll pick up a shotgun and possibly a rifle this spring.

If I had to guess, I'd say nothing too draconian will happen. I wouldn't pay any obscene prices for anything right now. That said, I'd put one or a few on order, just to be safe.

holy tittyballs I went to Gander Mountain and they had a ton of guns. I tell ya fellas, it was hard to not walk out of there with a shotgun or 2. (really wanting a 12 GA pump or even semi)

If I don't find any good shotgun deals at the gun show, I might go back to GM.

I'm gonna hold off on an AR15/M4 purchase until things calm down a bit. Kinda hedging my bets that the ban won't happen, and if so, oh well, I'll still be paying out the ass for a preban.

Plus, I wanna save up and get another rifle, like another Rem 700 .308

Can't find BCGs anywhere. I don't understand the run on those but midway had one that was on back order with an estimated ship date of mid Jan. not sure about the quality.

I have been in the market for an AR for a while now but without knowing much about them I have been hesitant on purchasing one. As we all know the price on AR's and AR accessories have gone through the roof due to the recent events so that has also caused me to pretty much rule out owning an AR. However yesterday I stumbled across what I felt like was a decent price on a New Frontier Armory Lower with a DPMS Sportical Upper that I just didn't want to pass up. Keeping in mind that I am an AR virgin I am trying to get a feel on how to equip my newest addition. All I really want is to install some optics (flip up iron sights and a red dot) a vertical grip and maybe down the road a light. Input from you more knowledgeable rifle guys would be greatly appreciated.

Do some research on Feinstain's bill, you wont be able to buy or sell any banned items (anything that takes a magazine)

^ Won't happen

^^ depending if you want to spend the money for a quality optic you can't really go wrong with aimpoint or eotech. I like battery life and durability of aimpoints but really love the reticle and visibility with an eotech

with the way the market is, grab it if you can.

most likely itll be perfect for what you want. unless you're shooting competitively of if you want long distance accuracy, dpms uppers are common out there. there are better but it'll be fine.

as long as it shoots, you're good!

when i got my AR i wanted a vertical grip. wasnt a bit fan of it versus the angled grip. i like the AFG a little better.

gunrunners had the daniel defense ambush series for $1500. a good deal for an AR. only problem was it was pink lol

^ yeah this is my favorite part:

Quote :
"To that end, I strongly support legislation that would keep assault weapons and high-capacity magazines--which have no legitimate self-defense or recreational purpose--off of our streets. I have also co-sponsored a measure that would close the "gun show loophole," which allows as many as 40 percent of all guns sold in the United States to change hands without criminal background checks. As we look ahead to the new Congress, I am actively considering other reforms that could help prevent another Sandy Hook, Aurora, Oak Creek, Tuscon, or Virginia Tech."

I'm actually curious if he knows what high-capacity AR magazines are, or if he is referring to 30-round STANDARD CAPACITY as "high capacity". Either way, both have self-defense and recreation purpose.

I'm looking at getting the Beretta PX4 Storm Compact 9mm. It will be mainly for range shooting, home defense and a small possibility of potential carry in the future.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with this gun?

I got a response from David Price that was a lot more ambiguous.

Quote :
"Thank you for contacting me regarding gun control. It is good to hear from you.

I have been a consistent supporter of the ability of law-abiding citizens to own and use guns for self-protection, hunting, and sporting purposes, while supporting reasonable measures to keep guns away from individuals who would use them to threaten or harm other people.

Should the House consider legislation related to gun control, I will consider it carefully, keeping your views in mind.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to stay in touch regarding issues of importance.

Can you take that off on your taxes?

How much did insurance help?

Did any of them turn up at pawn shops etc?

never heard of writing a gun safe off on your taxes

i had a separate rider on my renter's policy and had my guns itemized on it. there were two that weren't itemized, but the coverage for firearms on the basic renter's policy covered them. had a $500 deductible.

3 rifles and 1 shotgun were located by the sheriff's dept in a pawn shop a couple counties over. 1 rifle and 1 handgun were never located.

they got the dude. i'm not sure of all the court proceedings, but one day the prosecutor contacted us and wanted to know how much restitution we wanted to seek. i gave him an amount equal to the deductibles plus anything else that wasn't covered by insurance. i guess it was a couple months later i received a check in the mail for the total amount of restitution i asked for. i was very surprised.

[Edited on January 3, 2013 at 2:23 PM. Reason : but restitution won't make you feel safe in your home]

Im pretty sure you can write theft off on your taxes.

http://taxes.about.com/od/deductionscredits/qt/CasualtyTheft.htm

Taking advantage of this^ is one reason Im not doing my own taxes this year. We will see what happens-

The combination of a decent safe and an alarm system should be enough to keep the majority of thief's away from your stuff...yeah someone with the proper tools and time could probably get into my Liberty safe but they are going to be less likely to find it and get into it while a siren is blaring and the police are on their way (hopefully). If those things fail, well that is why I have an insurance policy

Anyone know a good FFL to transfer an AR lower to?

The site is asking for the address for the FFL...can I just put the address in or do I need to contact the FFL first? I've never ordered online.

Most all fll are about $25. North raleigh guns does $25 per order. So if you ordered more than one gun or whatever it's one price. Which is nice.

Yeah. You're supposed to put the shipping name and addy the FFL.

I think what happens is the store doing the shippin is suppose to contact FFL to confirm the license.
But don't quote me.

You can find some ffl for $20. I think knightdale pawn. And there's a gunsmith in youngsville that is 20 I think.
