my wireless connection keeps droppin on my desktop whenever i connect to a server. if i dont go into the game the connection stays fine. it seems like it always happens in the game. wtf do i do?

Once you are already in a server, but before you have joined the actual game. Hold down tab before you select your spawn point and the number on the far right of your stats will be your ping

yea i have done that b4 and when i can look at it its usually around 110-120. once i start playin a bit it goes down. soemtimes i'll get disconnected even b4 i get to the spawn points. like it'll load and then right when i'm ready to join it'll disconnect.

The day I posted about earlier, where I got kicked from 2 servers in a row for excessive TKs that weren't my fault, I had something similar happen. I was on Karkand and there is that TOW sitting out in the open by the ramp that goes down to the north end of the map, and beside that building with the flag with rocks around it. Well, I see a tank coming up from the south so I run to that TOW to shoot it. Of course, as soon as I fire, a jeep with 3 teammates drives right in front of the missle a second after I fire. Direct hit into the side of their jeep killing them all.

That, combined with the 4 TKs I got earlier from a jeep full of teammates riding over my mines got me banned...

o man that sux big time...its gettin really bad with this punishing. i mean if i get TKed by artillery or somethin i dont punish cause usually i cant get out in time of the area or i am running away and a shell hits where i am. now if a guy is in a vehicle and i'm runnin somewhere and he doesnt even try to avoid me then i punish. but it seems like people punish for everythin no matter what.

I never punish unless it is extremely obvious that the person who TKed me did it on purpose. Like if he is looking right at me for a few seconds, then starts shooting, and follows me as I run away.

I'm going to download xfire and ventrilo later tonight, I love this game so much it's likely that I'll be playing every night that my wife will let me get away with. I lost a RAM chip this weekend (probably thanks to this game), man it's amazing how much performance you lose from 1GB to 512MB. I'll pick up another gig sept 1st and then I'll be cooking with propane. It's tough to find matches with people that work together, so I can't wait to play with some twwers.

Yeah when I was with Maugan I was in the gunner seat just watching this guy at the American heli pad... we slowly come in for repairs.. I see the guy plain as day.. walks out - runs behind the corner - triggers the C4 and BOOM double TK.

Some people just do not pay nearly enough attention like that guy. I mean for someone to take the time in seeing the vehicle, placing the C4, running to hide and then detonating.. wow.. didn't even identify the target. I can understand prefire screwups in enemy territory but that was terrible. Hell I even TKs Maugan when I was firing across 2 buildings and he spawned on me (I was squad leader) and the spawn placed him right in front of my gun. Burst mode + Maugan's big head = quick TK.

Another example of when I would punish. This one idiot TKd me with a nade a couple of times in the same round as above. All of this was on Sharqi btw... in the middle spawn areas with the construction I was climbing up the stairs because we had a UAV showing an enemy near our flag and I didn't see him below. I get to the level next to the top and I am pausing before just rushing up top trying to listen/see anything I can.. then I see a nade land next to my feet.. BOOM! TK... the teammate has the balls to say "What were you doing up there!? That is OUR base!" ................... no shit.. I was defending it lol. I didn't punish - accidental.. but no less than 5minutes later the same damn thing happens. Except this time I just finished capturing the flag (the enemy I was after apparently captured it) and no enemies are around and a nade comes to my feet.. same guy.. another TK.. definitely punished him for that one. UAV showed no enemy up there just me.

Now I don't often punish - like when Maugan and I were hovering over the arty and our commander sent a strike. We were hovering over the guns mind you - not where the strike was to hit.. and the shell going into the air caught us when going up. I'm sure most idiots would have punished for that.. instead I thought it was fucking hilarious. I just wish people would identify their targets sometimes first.

Oh - in reply to ^... I leave Xfire up all the time. I am not on ventrilo much because I don't have my new headset yet (in the mail). When ops or anyone else is on vent I hop in there to listen but thats it.

hahaha i did the c4 on the helo thing once.

I was at the enemy pad and threw some c4 on to one of the helos and then one of my teammates flew off in it and i was like crap

then some other enemy guys showed up in a tank so i thew some c4 on it.

I pulled up the detonator and thought for a second about what was a guarunteed tk punish and clicked the button anyway.



on a side note this game is buggy as fuck.

Everything from the menu system and the server browser right on through to the netcode and physics engine.

i cant stand all the little kids who try and mutiny you while being a commander. you can be doing everything right, listening to the squad leaders, sending orders, deploying UAVs, supply drops, etc etc (and even have the most kills on your team), but since they want to be commander they'll constantly have vote to mutiny - makes me not even want to be commander

speaking of commanding, everyone seen the full zoom in command screen? its pretty cool

yeah the zoom feature really helps for dropping supply crates

I also use it for defense when I am held up as a commander at the main base by myself.. usually on Karkand when some spec ops guy decides to come in solo I have a couple of nice hiding spots and can follow him all the way in with the overhead.. if I have a 203 or grenades I typically kill them before they know wtf happened - fun stuff

Does anyone know what the servers use as criteria for team balance? Is it just completely random when you get switched teams (I hate it when it does this). Last night I was doing great as a squad leader on Songhua Stalemate, I was ranked like 2nd or 3rd overall (out of 32) and after like my 4th death I was switched to the other team. It is really annoying. Also, aside from being punished, how do you receive negative assist points?

If you TK and aren't punished, you still get negative teamwork points. If you suicide, change teams, or kill yourself you will also get negative teamwork points.

Yeah it treats it as a suicide. You may be able to get away with changing after you die and before you spawn with no penalty, I can't remember. It's to discourage excessive team changing.

and yeah generally they don't do much for the team.. but after awhile if I am playing alone and the team I am stuck with is terrible.. I may snipe just to have a change of pace.. all depends on the map of course.. then again I don't recall using it as much as my stats say... it is still my "most used" gun

well i've come to realize that BF2 sux majorly over wireless. i bought and installed a PCI wireless card because i thought my wireless USB stick was just a POS. after playin on the PCI card, i dont have a large ping reported anymore but rather if i stand still and watch everyone run or move around, they lag pretty bad but yet i have a low ping reported. on top of that, my ping will jump up ridiculously at times like around 850 then gradually come back down to <100. also, the game will freeze up at times for about 8-10 seconds. then once it kicks itself out of the freeze i get disconnected from the server.

now i dont know if this is a BF2 over wireless issue or if its just a plain wireless issue. from what i've experienced with my stuff, its leading me to think its a BF2 over wireless issue. has anyone else had issues like this?

Have you played BF2 through a regular connection? I use a wireless connection, but my ping is always <100. Every now and then it will lag a whole lot right when I spawn, but if I go prone and look directly at the ground (not much is actually visible on the screen so there isn't much data to process) it picks up and goes back to normal.

wireless shouldn't effect your gaming at all. you should ping the router <10ms or you have issues

after doin a shit load of readin and research i came to the conclusion i had to open a shit load of ports through my firewall and router for this to work properly. after doin all that, i noticed a huge improvement. however, every once in awhile i'll get a rough lag but it kicks out of it a bit faster than b4. i have no ping spikes either that i have seen so ::fingers crossed:: i hope i fixed it.
