On Supermax tonight, The inmates hold a DL comp...one guy missed 675 but it was questionable. Some strong fuckers in prison.

my pull is bigger than my squat, but at most meets you see it the other way around.

isn't deadlift usually bigger than squat?

Nope, Dave Tates best numbers are a 935 Squat and 740 DL and Jim Wendler pulled 700 and SQ'd 1000.

most powerlifters have slightly larger squat numbers. that might have something to do with squat being the first lift in a competition and the deadlift being the last lift, but if you look at the results of previous nationals, you'll see consistently larger squat numbers. you'll also see more failed deadlift numbers. I don't know if that's from the lifter trying to chase a total or from the lifter thinking he can hit a bigger number that he's hit in practice.

I take it those numbers were with a suit and not raw

I don't know about the numbers he posted, but there are a ton of lifters who can break the 1000 pound squat mark lifting raw. I've seen videos of Dr. Hetfield squatting over 1000lbs raw 20 years ago at a 242lb weight class.

my own, have had them for awhile but the setup sucked as the heavy bag was too low and the speed bag was in a tight spot so you couldnt get enough room to use it

i now have the heavy bag hung outside and it is a perfect height and the speed bag is much more accessible

i have a nice place to hang it, so it works out, though it is outside under my deck... gets hot as a MF hitting it right now, be intresting to be using it when it gets closer to winter

i havent been using it for a coulpe months now so it will take some time getting back into it, but i need to find someone to work out with a couple times a week, pretty easy to get home from an hour and half workout at the gym and hit the bag for a couple minutes and want to go inside and lay down!

you throw shotput and you don't max out? I'm shocked by that. nothing makes you're neural paths develop better than triples and singles at close to maximal effort.

nah theres no reason to max doing most any sport at all other than olympic lifting

the lowest reps ill go is 5, otherwise i dont feel like i am bettering myself for anything

I havent maxed out since my senior year of HS, i mean yea ill finish a workout and my homie'll be like

"hey man see if u can do this" and either i can or i cant and thats that

if I were training for what you do, I would alternate high rep and low rep workouts and hit singles and triples on the low volume days. throwing shot and hammer for 3 attempts sounds identical to making 3 attempts for olympic lifting and powerlifting, so why not train similar to them?

nigga i always get SIX attempts

i make finals son, the toughest thing to do during a meet is keep up the intensity between trials and finals, there are often flights in between or the meet coordinators drag ass

six attempts sounds similar to 3 at squat and 3 at deadlift separated by an hour. very similar muscle groups used in both.

I agree, you are putting the ball with one maximal effort, why not train that way.

muscular conditioning, and technique

either way, how much i lift in a weightroom doesnt matter in very many sports

maximal effort lifting develops your neural network, which is more important for ultimate strength. just look at the difference in strength of pro bodybuilders and powerlifters/olympic lifters at the national and international level and you'll realize that there is a lot more to strength than just muscle.

5x5 is a good program, if nothing else other than it forces you to change the weights you use.

no, 5x5 is a five sets of five protocol using the same weight for all 5 sets, after plenty of light warmup sets. read up on it. other people run variations of it with 3x5, 5x3, and 3x3. I've used the 3x3 protocol for my deadlift before with great results.
