I don't follow music business too much. All I know is bands sign with labels and labels act like tax collectors.

So can someone explain the following story to me. Is it just cutting out the middleman? And how does Radiohead expect to make money selling on the internet if consumers set their own price, the honor system?

im confident theyre going to make money dont worry.

this is a bad example when speaking of the music industry as a whole. if you were to look at the majority of bands on labels they wouldnt see a check from the label until the label had broken even on all recording, pressing, advertising, videos etc associated with the album. at which point a percentage of the sales start to be sent in the form of royalty checks.

^^ radiohead is already huge. they don't need the money from album sales. getting their music into the hands of more people will help their touring (provided the people like what they hear). i'm sure any money they get from the downloads is just a bonus. big fans will buy the discbox because they are selling something that fans actually want. plus by trying something so new/different, they are getting a lot of free press.

i can see someone thinking "i kind of like (insert band), but i'm not sure if i want to pay $10-15 for the album"

right and i dont know how much they spent on recording/mastering etc. but even if people contribute an average of $1 per album theyve at least broken even on album pressing

Indeed, as Cuomo announced via what is apparently his personal MySpace ("The Real Slim Cuomo"?!) today, he reached deep and has compiled a collection of demos spanning 1992-2007 for CD release. Geffen Records has confirmed that it will release the compilation, titled Alone - The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo, on December 11."

Opeth - The Roundhouse Tapes.

Letdown. Why buy a cd of songs i can watch live on youtube with comparable / better quality than this cd. Like 1/10th the quality of Lamentations.

"While they were at it, RS.com squeezed a bit more out of Rivers regarding Alone. Apart from a demo of "Buddy Holly" and a cover of Ice Cube's "The Bomb" (sample lyric: "still dropping more shit than a pigeon"), the disc is comprised of several tracks from the unfinished space rock concept album/musical Songs From a Black Hole, which Cuomo planned as a follow-up to the band's blue-hued debut. you were at the dc show? so was i. i was wasted. my friend jake is in the band that opened for them... the films.

the films are ok, haven't hit a stride. their lyircs make there songs audiably (word?) boring sometimes.

i'm also more of a Bjorn Dixgard fan myself, but Gustaf is quite the badass too.
Bjorn's doing some sort of solo tour in europe now.

Their site currently only displays the a picture of the band and is labeled "not yet"... I can only hope this is an indication that it is nearly complete.
