Robert Yates Racing, sources said, has agreed to sell the #88 that Dale Jarrett drove to the 1999 championship.(" |

Well, at least they finally decided.
However, too bad it couldn't be someting like 14, something that an 8 could not be made into! That sure would teach them rednecks a lesson. 9/15/2007 10:44:40 AM |

Wait a minute... didn't NASCAR just say that THEY own the numbers, not the team owners? Wasn't that the issue with the #8 we were just talking about a few months ago? So, why now is Robert Yates selling the number?
Quote : | ""NASCAR owns the numbers and licenses them to teams on an annual basis," Poston said in the report. "A team may allow another team to use the number for that year pending NASCAR's approval."" |
So, NASCAR will approve the 88 but not the 8 to be bought?

teams retain the rights to use the number they used the previous year. RYR is just selling the rights to the number to Hendrick. 9/15/2007 6:36:50 PM |

oh, I've been knowing that!
If that was the case, why didn't NASCAR step in and put her in her place and let the number go with Jr.?

what could they have done? DEI retains the rights and under nascar's rules written in disappearing ink, they can't just give another team a number that was used the previous year by someone else. There's be lawsuits out the ass from the sponsors.
sponsors are the biggest problem.

But then what about this:
Quote : | "NASCAR owns the numbers and licenses them to teams on an annual basis" |
and this
Quote : | "NASCAR reserves the right to revoke or transfer car numbers to another owner/team at any time." |
Oh, sponsors... well, NASCAR would be protected by their rules... which would have to be in the sponsor contracts.

im waiting for her house in Florida to be finished, she'll sell all that shit to Menards and skip town.
as for the 8, i wouldn't of gotten rid of it either, its the only power shes got, and look at all that revenue shes pulling in still by keeping it. She owns the rights to the number, she owns the rights to all the shit that'll be sold in 20 years if and when Jrs stuff starts becoming collectible. It'll be like the old school Wrangler stuff.
i'm ready for a full COT season, even if the drivers and teams aren't (except hendricks). It'll just be interesting to see those Pieces of crap full time.
I'm also ready for the Media tour for 2009, Lets see what they change in the points this year to get the fans satisfied. 9/18/2007 11:35:56 AM |

Theresa was the owner, not Junior. So it's her decision and that's it. Junior was her employee, just like Junior is Rick Hendrick's employee in 3 months.9/18/2007 12:41:27 PM |

Yes, but it only matters when it is official! Remember all the different numbers that were "confirmed", "in the works" or "it" for Jr's number? But it only mattered when it was official.
And Kasey Kahne riding in on the Clydesdale's is as official as it gets!

Yeah, Nascar Owns the NUMBER, but as far as THE 8, DEI has it trademarked. That stylized italicized white and black eight was designed for DEI, for that car. She'll still be forking in revenue off that number for years to come.9/18/2007 9:19:59 PM |
bethaleigh All American 18902 Posts user info edit post |
Yes, but just because she has the specifics of that number trademarked, does not make it her number to keep. Anyone can still get the 8 (if NASCAR would let it go), but can't keep that design, they must make their own. 9/18/2007 9:56:11 PM |
