I tried to "fix" a couple of light scratches on my Redhawk, couldnt get a uniform finish so I ended up polishing the whole thing. I have about 10 hrs and $15 in supplies. I like the look but keeping it free of smudges is a pain in the ass. I also changed the grips to a Hogue mono-grip which look and feel better but dont quite absorb the recoil like the crappy fitting wraparound Pachmayr's did.
I am happy for now with it. Next will be a trip to Magna-Port and maybe a new set of sights.

random/lazy question:

I recently moved, still in wake county though. i dont have a ccw, but just have a few handguns. does the purchase permit register the gun to a particular address that i would need to change or is it just general wake county? just wondering if anyone had a quick answer so i could just walk over and take care of that on my lunch break if need be, although i didnt find anything at first glance on the website.

where is the best place in the triangle to get powder and primers? id order online but i dont feel like paying hazmat fees.

No, you don't need to do anything because the purchase permit doesn't register your guns at all. The only thing the permit does is allow you to legally purchase a handgun.

If you change your drivers license to your new address, you will need to get new permits. The address on the permit shoud match the permit on your license.

A purchase permit is just that. Once you own it, you are free and clear. You don't have to keep the addresses updated. At least in wake county. Durham county is different.
Unless you are purchasing the gun from yourself, and then you would need a permit.

^ my permits have my address printed on them, and I live in mecklenburg county. at any rate i think the guy was asking if he needed to go to the sheriff's office and change the address that his guns were registered at, which would be a negatory since guns aren't registered in north carolina.

man, when did ammo get so expensive? i hadn't bought any in a few months...went to wal-mart today to pick up 100 rounds of FMJ and 50 rounds of JHP (all Winchester .45 ACP). total was $62!

I don't remember it being so expensive.

Most of it has doubled since the 2003-2004 timeframe. Some calibers have literally tripled.

2 - Consumption of metals by developing countries (China)

The typical bulk calibers have gone up the most.

Well, I don't know how many people here own an XD but I just finished installing my new Overtravel Stop & Safety Lever from Powder River Precision.

I'm VERY happy with the new trigger travel. Overall, I'd say total travel is about 1/3 of the stock travel. Pretravel is MUCH shorter. Overtravel is "adjustable" depending on how much you file/sand off (Overtravel stop is plastic). I stupidly used a punch to check the travel rather than putting the locking block pins back in so I ended up sanding off too much but I'm still happy.

Trigger pull weight is unchanged (I don't like trigger jobs on carry guns) and installation is simple. The best part is that both parts shipped came in under $45. Installation took me all of 30 minutes while watching tv. The safety lever should be drop in (so far, Powder River knows of only 3 that have needed fitting) & the overtravel stop is filed/sanded to fit trigger bar & frame. This is the only overtravel stop that I know of that does NOT require a set screw.

Anyway, I'm very impressed with the company and the end result. For anybody that's unhappy with the trigger on their XD but doesn't want to drop the pull weight, definitely check them out.

I picked up 500 rounds of Federal (speer loaded) XM193 for $150 at the show and a couple of 30 round Pmags for $14 each and a crappy red dot for my GSG-5 and 100 rounds of decent 7.62x39 for $30. The show was smaller than the Dixie but still a pretty good size and price didn't seem as outrageous as the dixie was last time.

I put this in the other thread but I have a set of carbide Lee dies for .40 S&W (the 4 die set) that I will sell for $25 or trade for the 9mm version. I would prefer the trade because I need 9mm dies.

Last batch of supplies I bought, I got from Young Guns in Apex. He has a decent selection of reloading supplies, and bullets for a few of the most common calibers (9mm, 40, 223, 308, etc) Gun show usually has the best prices, but if you need anything in a pinch, it's a good shop to go to.

I have about 50 done now and I think I'll do another 150 or so and head to the range tomorrow. Probably go to PDHSC because it is literally 5 minutes from my house. Anyone have problems with this range? The price isn't exactly favorable compared to other ranges I have been to in TX but hey I will take what I can get.

Mike - the owner is a good guy. Its a nice place to shoot. i don't think you have too many other options in raleigh...davi's shut their range down, so thats a no go. If you go next week, let me know, i want to try out my new drop in .22 conversion for my AR

PDHSC is a good range & the price is pretty much on par with the rest in Raleigh other than Wake County (which had funky hours & rules when I was there). The only problem there is the very annoying tendancy to get hit by ricochets. I've been hit there several times on the right range (left range is "tactical" with steel poppers & I've had no problems there. I actually prefer it for $5 more). Three times hard enough to draw blood (.45 Rangers hurt like hell when you get hit in the temple).

There's also Eagle One in Raleigh (behind Wal-mart on Six Forks or Falls). I prefer the people there and shooting there (vs. the standard range at PDHSC) other than the lighting isn't as bright & the floor mats make it hard to sweep up your brass. Seems like they're slightly cheaper as well.

afaik, you can fire as fast as you want as long as they all go into the backstop, and any caliber up to .50, blackpowder, and pretty much any bullet except incidenary (no magnet test).

^^^ Off the top of my head I can't remember anything specific other than how difficult they made it to get your "membership" in order to be allowed to shoot. Seems like it was something like the "class" that you had to take was offered every 2 weeks and there was only 1 class or something. Seems like there was something about the actual range that was odd too (like you couldn't shoot pistols outside or something). I recall the hours being limited as well (more limited that I would prefer, 7 days a week & open until 8 usually at least).

Whatever it was, it turned me completely off of them since I wasn't shooting longguns at the time. It's been about 2 years since I was close enough to them for them to be a viable option though (moved to Knightdale and now I'm out in Hickory). It's possible that it's all changed now.

I haven't shot one but, with regard to the interchangeability and ability to switch calibers... I'll believe it when it comes out. (plus, I am no fan of DAO).

I think I'm becoming a fan of DAO. It is unquestionably the safest means to carry, not to imply that other means are "unsafe" but less can go wrong with a hammer at rest than a cocked hammer or partially cocked striker.

The Sig Pro line was met with less than enthusiasm. I don't think Sig will make that mistake twice.

Which mode to carry is definetly a personal preference more than anything else.

My preference is DA/SA with the hammer decocked and no manual safety. To me that is just as safe as DAO, except after the first shot you get easier single-action shots, and you don't have the "things can go wrong factor" by not fumbling with a manual safety, cocked and locked would be my last choice.

From a safety factor you are completely right. Personal preference, I'm just as happy with a short DAO.


But, if anyone gets to shoot, look at, or hear anything about the P250 do post it here. I used to love my old 229 and I really liked the one 250 I got to hold a few months back.
