no way in hell we're "settling" for brown at the point. I'm sure we feel confident with Brown at the point and getting wall would just be icing on the cake for one year.
Thats the reason wall isn't a make or break recruit. We're fine if brown comes here. He actually may be the make or break recruit for us. 7/13/2008 11:46:30 PM |

^^From everything I've seen, Brown is a 2G. It'd be dumb to start him at the point considering that *if he comes* Degand and Javi will still be here, with Harrow coming in the next.
I agree though that Wall isn't a make-or-break player. I'm seriously starting to wonder if he's worth all of this, considering he's almost surely going to be a one and doner. Don't get me wrong, I'll take the guy, but I'm sure not going to be heartbroken if he goes elsewhere. 7/13/2008 11:53:20 PM |

We really don't need a PG in the 09 class, so if we get Wall it'd be icing on the cake.
Should we land Wall though, we'd also be taking in Wood, Brown, and likely a big man(Favors/Kelly/Howell/?). Wonder how we're gonna make that fit. 7/14/2008 1:29:14 AM |

Wood, SYF win Best of Midwest tourney title
Scott Wood is getting used to playing in title games.
The North Carolina State senior commit from Marion (Ind.) High helped lead the SYF Players to a 68-67 victory over Spiece Indy Elite on Tuesday in the Best of the Midwest championship game in Indianapolis, Ind.
Wood scored 15 points in the title game and was named co-MVP with senior point guard teammate John Taylor, who attends Chicago North Lawndale High.
"We played really well," Wood said. "There was a lot of good Indiana kind of basketball with good shooters and all that stuff in this tournament. Everyone knew me. It was a good tournament for our team and we are starting to play together and trust each other."
SYF went 6-1 to advance to the title game against Spiece Indy Elite, which features 2010 Ohio State commit DeShaun Thomas, who is ranked No. 7 nationally by Rivals.com.
"I wouldn't say it was one of my better tournaments as far as scoring, because I've had bigger scoring tournaments, but I think I made big steps as far as penetrating and showing other parts of my game," Wood said. "People have been guarding me different ways, some different things like a box and one defense or trying to zone us. It's really helped my game and penetration."
Wood said he is aware he's a marked man as opposing players are cognizant that he'll be playing in the ACC in the future.
"Guys were talking trash and doing all that stuff, but that's just motivation," Wood said. "One kid called me an NC State wannabe the other day. I don't know how I can be a wannabe if I'm going there, so that was kind of funny."
Wood and SYF previously won the GBOA North tournament, and Wood played for the state title during the high school season.
NC State assistant coach Monte Towe was in attendance for five of Wood's games.
"He couldn't come for the championship game because he had to go back to Raleigh today, but he saw every game but two," Wood said.
Wood will be playing in the Super Showcase in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., at the Disney World complex, followed by AAU Nationals at the same site. He'll play with SYF for the last time at the GBOA National Tournament in Chicago on Aug. 15-17.
Wood is also keeping tabs on how the other NC State recruits are doing and watched recent 2010 point guard commit Ryan Harrow play in Milwaukee in-between some of his games.
"I got to know Ryan and he's a really nice guy," Wood said. "He looks like a pretty good shooter and he's real good with the ball. He handles the ball real well." 7/15/2008 6:12:15 PM |

looks like this kid might be walking on...this is the kind of guy you want on your team
Quote : | "Smith hopes to continue basketball career
By Mason Linker | Journal Reporter
Published: July 20, 2008
Kendall Smith came to Glenn as a point guard and grew into a dominant post player, retaining many of his perimeter skills while using his bulk to his advantage.
He left Glenn with a varied set of basketball skills, a strong academic resume and opportunities.
In the end, the 6-7 Smith turned down basketball scholarship offers from UNC Asheville and VMI and accepted a full academic scholarship to N.C. State.
Smith has at least one official basketball game left -- Monday's East-West All-Star Game in Greensboro -- but he's hoping it won't be his last. He'll then return to N.C. State, to continue taking calculus and trying to impress the Wolfpack basketball coaches enough to earn a spot as a walk-on.
"It was very tough," Smith said of his decision. "I had to look at both options. I could either go and play basketball, which I love, or take a chance at State and possibly walk on. At the end, I couldn't pass up the options the Parks Scholarship at State gives me as far as networking. I have to look at the big picture."
Smith averaged 16.8 points and 10.3 rebounds last season, led Glenn to the Class 3-A Western Regional final and made the Journal's All-Northwest team. He had a game to hang his hat on in the regional semifinals, scoring 34 points, grabbing 21 rebounds and blocking seven shots as Glenn beat Hickory in triple overtime.
He finished his career with 904 points, 590 rebounds and 174 assists in three seasons. During that time, he also grew seven inches and changed from a guard to a forward.
Smith said he has been working out in open gyms with the N.C. State players and that he passed a physical last week that will allow him to work out in the weight room.
"I have done well; I have held my own," Smith said. "I am definitely not sticking out like an ACC player of the year. But I went from definitely being able to play (at a different school) to the bottom of the food chain."
Smith, who said he eventually wants to attend medical school, said he is going to give making the team at N.C. State his best shot.
"If it doesn't work out, then God didn't mean for it to be," he said. "If it does work out, that would be one of the best things to ever happen to me. I would play for an ACC team, which is what I have wanted to do since I was a kid."
In the East-West game, Smith will be joined on the West team by guard Marcus Wright of Winston-Salem Prep, an Appalachian State signee, and center Victor Davila of Starmount, a Virginia Tech signee. The East squad will feature Ty Walker, a 7-1 center from Wilmington who has signed with Wake Forest.
"It's going to be my last hurrah playing high-school guys," Smith said. "There's a lot of talent out there, and I know it's going to be fun."" |

rumor out on the web (PP) that john wall might commit to Ok State in the next month...and apparently after one of the Clifton brothers (his handlers/coaches) starts his job in the Ok St. athletics dept. word is oklahoma state and baylor (wtf? red flag anyone?) were the most recent high bidders, and that's why they're in his top 5 in recent interviews.

we've done it before, difference is the coaches we hired actually had plenty of coaching experience and as seen below exceeded mediocrity at those levels before getting hired, whereas Clifton has jack shit for coaching anything experience. Hell, Phelps was one of our best recruiters/coaches under Herb and is still doing well.
