"Palin has never heard of the Bush Doctrine"

Dude, that was a loaded fucking question. Nobody has ever really referred to it as the "Bush Doctrine." Hell, before yesterday, I'll bet no one on this fucking site could tell you what the "Bush Doctrine" was. It was a bullshit question asked to make Palin look stupid, and you are drinking the koolaid. Be honest. YOU had never heard the words "Bush Doctrine" before yesterday. So shut the fuck up.

really, no one calls it the Bush Doctrine? Is that why there are 851,000 hits for it on Google?

Anyone who has ever paid attention in the past 6 years has heard of the Bush Doctrine. Furthermore, a sample of Wolf Web users is not a proper sample when talking about who will be the next Vice President of the United States.

http://www.madison.com/tct/news/304606

McCain Campaign co-chair in Wisconsin is not attempting to supress voter turnout.

alright genius. what is obama doctrine????? GOOGLE HAS 2,960,000 hits for obama doctrine!!! OMG OH NOEEESSS!!!

and actually you fuckin lied. its: 390,000 for "bush doctrine".

He should've asked what Bushs policies were that he enacted in the wake of the terrorist attacks.

and she should've said, well it's something that obama won't do. because it has the word "bush" in it. and anything done to protect the country shouldn't be done, especially if it used by bush b/c everything he did was in favor of more terror strikes.

It's funny you mention that. Everything Obama has called for in Afghanistan and Iraq is now being done by the Bush Administration. The same policies McCain called naive.

The Obama Doctrine will be the same doctrine used as standard foreign policy by US Presidents until the Bush regime.

You fail to realize that the Bush Doctrine was a major divergent away from American Foreign Policy. Prior to the implementation of the Bush Doctrine, there had to be a real threat to the United States before we attacked. The Bush Doctrine changed that to if a State, anywhere in the world, might be a threat to the United States down the road, the US has a right to attack. That was a massive change in policy and people should have known it, especially the person tapped to be the Vice Presidential candidate with a man who strongly supports the Bush Doctrine.

only because the question was phrased to make her sound like a dumbass. That's the point. "What do you think of the Bush Doctrine?"

Quote :
"Anyone who has ever paid attention in the past 6 years has heard of the Bush Doctrine."

I've paid tons of attention and I have never heard of it. And, the number of Google hits is NOT representative in this instance.

I would agree, but given the higher interest that this forum shows in politics, it is certainly a relevant point. Had YOU heard of it before yesterday? Nope. The question was a set-up, and the look on Gibson's face as he asked it makes that point painfully clear. he was almost smiling deviously as he asked it.

Of course I knew about, I knew about it back in 2002. I can even annunciate what the fucking doctrine is. I even know the philosophical roots of the Doctrine.

BTW, when you search for "Bush Doctrine", you do indeed get 800K hits. But, when you tell it NOT to include "Palin", you get only 300K. Seems like you unfairly included news reports about the snafu in your search. Not surprising, either.

hell, even the liberal "guest" last night on Anderson Cooper said it was a bullshit question, because few people reference it as "Bush Doctrine." Face it, the media just made another story out of thin air in order to make Palin look bad. That you can't see it just shows how blind you are.

Let's change the subject to something more appropriate, like names bands went by in the 70's. Or references from movies in the sixties. Yeh, that would be good for a president to know too.

Let's make sure our president knows some obscure acroynm but not the phiosophy behind what you are actually trying to describe.

Yeh. That's not transparent at all.

yea you're right csharp. Our vice president probably shouldn't have any knowledge of our current president's foreign policy, it doesn't really seem relevant. I think its more important that shes a sassy hockey mom, than the fact that shes had so little experience with foreign policy and last night showed that she doesn't really have a vast knowledge of it either. Ignorance is bliss

I've been teaching my US History students about the Bush Doctrine for two years.

It's in the freaking NC Standard Course of Study:

http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/docs/curriculum/socialstudies/secondary/ushistorysupportdoc2007.pdf

p.145 (143 in the PDF)

Our average high schooler knows more about foreign policy than Palin.

I'm one of the biggest Obama supporter around, but it was a bullshit question. Gibson himself defined it differently in 2002 than he did during the interview. The Bush administration has mutilated it as well to have it fit their needs. The question was a trap at best and a ploy to make her look stupid at worst.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, cuz she is, but there are better questions to accomplish that -- the questions suggested by Olbermann's guests the past couple days for example.

The thing that worries me right now is Biden dropping out for Hillary to move in. That's the only way Obama's gonna win.

I'm hoping Obama's gigantic ego and hatred of Clinton will keep him from dumping Biden.

That'd be suicide. It'd look wishy washy and definitely pandering. Fuck that. Biden is experienced, smart, and likable. He will tear Palin a new asshole in the VP debate [no sexist], and we won't have to argue about her being stupid anymore because it will be common fact.

Are you saying the only way Obama will win is if he dumps Biden for Clinton? That would be disastrous for his chances at winning.

So strike one for the new Obama sharper attack ads.

The new ad tries to depict mccain as computer illiterate.

"Our economy wouldn't survive without the Internet, and cyber-security continues to represent one our most serious national security threats," [Obama spokesman Dan] Pfeiffer said. "It's extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn't know how to send an e-mail."

Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by "extraordinary." The reason he doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):

McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

P.S. Anyone catch Bidens income tax release today. Typical liberal, wants to help people with YOUR money, not thiers.

ABC News’ Charles Gibson, who is being credited with stumping Sarah Palin on the definition of the “Bush Doctrine,” has himself defined the nebulous phrase in a variety of ways, including one that mirrored Palin’s disputed explanation.

Gibson and his colleagues have been all over the map in defining the Bush Doctrine over the last seven years. In 2001, Gibson himself defined it as “a promise that all terrorists organizations with global reach will be found, stopped and defeated.”

if you need any more proof that it was a setup, note his response when she, in effect, asks him what it means: "you know, the Bush Doctrine."

Sorry, friends. I'll reiterate: I've never heard the phrase "Bush Doctrine" ever used. I'm glad that it is being printed in history books for high school students. I'm sure they have to have some way to reference it. But the fact is, the average American has never heard that phrase, so it was a setup question. Hey, gotta make news somehow, right?

wow. have you ppl even seen the interview?

she nailed the question on the head. in a very honorable way. what exactly was wrong with how she answered it? they were on the topic of defense, and she of course answered it in that light.

either way i love that she wants to drill in anwr. take a poll any poll and you'll see most americans will want to drill there after this weekend.

Her request was for clarification was completely legitimate. The so-called "Bush Doctrine" has had many different points. Originally it refered to the National Missile Defense system. Later the term was used to refer to four aspects of Bush's policy: Preemption, Military Primacy, New Multilateralism, and the Spread of Democracy. Which point did Gibson want her to comment on? Why don't yo idiots read a book or educate yourselves instead of make fools out of yourselves.

The Bush Doctrine did not originally refer to the missile defense shield. I suggest you actually read the fucking Bush doctrine before you make bullshit statements.

She also did not answer the question correctly. Her answer was not the Bush Doctrine. She spoke to an imminent threat, which had define american foreign policy. The Bush doctrine speaks to an imminent threat somewhere down the road.
