I was ranked into 1v1 Bronze. I have no issue with this ranking as I'm pretty terrible, but am getting better.

Story time: In my last placement match, this guy tried to cannon creep to me and had cannons everywhere...

Except next to both of his Nexus.

Two Dark Templars later (because I fucked up the warp and accidentally warped 3 of them on a ledge that couldn't get to his base) it was pretty much game over. I did kind of fuck with him though as the second I started to see his cannons outside my base I said "Nice cannons. I'll get ready for the Void Rays". Maybe this convinced him to not send any?

^ I hate it when people do that. So lame. The key is to remain calm, kill the probes and set up some kind of ranged attackers for the pylons, block ramps, etc. It's a good sign that you can stop this now. I still have trouble w/ it!

At first I tried to kill it -- took out a pylon or two and lots a bunch of zealots and stalkers. Finally I just said fuck it and left him to do it since he went about it the worst way possible.

I could still fly Warp Prisms out and also had a scouting probe out just running around.

That said, if he had kept it up, he probably could've creeped right into my base like that.

Picked it up today, just now starting to play. Pretty on Ultra settings.

Once I get my legs I'll tell you guys so you can multiplayer it up with me and smash them out from beneath me so that the dirt might knock some learnin' into my face.

^ The void ray speed upgrade is a must-have if you're going to go mass VRs.

On another note: got placed in 1v1 Gold today. I'm embarrassed by my first two placement matches, then I picked my game up to finish strong.

Placement breakdown:

G1 - TvP, lost to mass stalker. My harass wasn't effective and my timing was all off. Very embarassing.

G2 - TvT, lost to mass tank w/ some viking backup. I just didn't scout like I should have. Harass failed.

G3 - TvZ, won against zerg who rushed to mutas and corruptors, but built no detection. So, 3 banshees killed about 30 drones. Moved in w/ 25 marines and mopped it up. During my banshee harass the opponent said something like "HOLY CRAP HOW CAN I WIN I CAN'T EVEN SEE THOSE THINGS!" I was nice enough to tell him to build overseers, which he finally did.

G4 - TvZ, lots of harass, killing off spires and drones whittled him down. 3 tanks at the front wall stopped any ground aggression. Eventually went overlord hunting w/ 6 vikings and he gg'd.

G5 - TvP, some mineral line harass forced him to cannon up like crazy. He expanded all the way across the map (Lost Temple). He worked on a ground army mix: lots, stalkers, immortals then tried to sneak DTs into my base. Didn't work. Eventually pushed w/ 4 tanks, 30 marines, 2 ravens, 3 banshees and he gg'd.

Some dude tried to proxy gate me last night on Scrap Station. It might would have worked if he didn't place it in the worst possible spot. My scouting probe didn't have to deter from its path at all when finding it.

All I did was make a second gateway and held off a couple of waves of 5ish zealots. I figured there was no need to move out since he was going to continue to push in with zealots even though it was impossible for him to push in. I saturated my minerals then tossed out a couple of stalkers and took out the proxy pylon. He immediately left (no gg). How lame.

I've had some weird matches lately. Last night I had 2 games vs. guys ranked #2 in their respective gold ladders and ended up winning on base trading. Both games managed to get units out to build and stay alive while taking them out. Weird to have 2 matches both vs. #2 gold that both ended with neither of us really being able to make anything. I bet they were both super pissed off... was nice to beat highly ranked gold players especially since I feel like being ranked at top 5 in gold is more impressive than being like 70-100 in plat...at least for the next few weeks as the ladders shake out.

In original SC I hated the barracks units, not sure why. Finding out I have to change that mindset, especially vs. toss. Winning a lot of games with early 4 rax 2 of them pumping duel marines, 2 of them pumping marauder. Really works well early game especially if you can time your first attack right before they get to advanced units. With so many damn toss going VRs it works perfect.

I also lost a game as terran to a guy who just made like 8 marines and killed me. That sucked.

Still looking for someone to play some 2on2 or even 3v3 with. I hate 1on1 and I've done some 2v2 random but would love to find some more people to play with.

Played more 2v2s tonight. Didn't play well, but jumped from 30ish Gold to 7th Platinum. Close to diamond I believe! If only I could do that in 1v1. My anti-cheese skills are lacking tonight. Got proxy reaper rushed and raged Not in game though, no BM

In Bronze League 1v1, this Zerg guy tried to 6pool me.

I fucked up though and accidently completely blocked the entrance to my gate with two Gateways. He killed my Zealot, but surrendered the second he realized his zerglings couldn't get through.

A win is a win, I guess.

Later yesterday I built 3 pylons in the wrong spot and had to place my nexus in the middle of nowhere. There's a reason I'm like #42.

I too am looking for good protoss replays if anyone runs across any.

As a side suggestion, not sure if its been mentioned or not, but play a game against the very hard or insane AI. Then go watch the replay to see what they did. If you are in bronze or silver league that could possibly help knowing when its appropriate to do things like scouting, etc..

It helped me a bit, even though I am still terrible.

Last night I sucked, lost 2 games I should have won. Terran viking/thor/tank ate me up as toss no matter what I threw at it. Hard to beat terran in a long game.

Ive watched 99% of the videos on day9's blip site..

We had a fun game last night, it was me (protoss) and my terran friend vs another protoss and terran.

Early on, they rushed us unsuccessfully, so we immediately counter with an offensive against the terran. While we are doing that, the toss had been building voidrays and just decimated my base before we could take them down, so thus began their wipe of our bases with the void rays.

Completely took me out before we could stop it, and then moved to my friends base. In the meantime, we had wiped out the terran, so it was 1v1 basically at this point.

The opposing terran surrendered and left, but my buddy gave me control over his units. His base started to get wiped out, so we snuck out and rebuilt elsewhere, and built a massive amount of missle turrets.

He focused on protecting the base, and i took the force we were building and went apeshit on the protoss base, harassing the hell out of them and whittling them down to nothing.

We eventually won, but it was one of the most fun games I have played so far.

day9 is hilarious to me. I watch his daily casts the next day when they are posted on the archive. he obviously knows the game and has great commentary and advice. He is much more personable than husky and HD imo as well.

yesterday he did an hour+ daily that is a postmortem on his launch event. Its interesting, though theres no actual analysis.
