I'd say I go about 80% Paleo right now and I'm quite happy with that amount. Any more and I'd go crazy.

Question....

Let's say you are doing a work out routine with 24 exercises, for instance shoulders/back/triceps (so basically 8 exercises on each muscle group). What is the best strategy?

A. Lift a decent amount for the first 12 exercises, but not your max, knowing that you still have 12 exercises left, so that you can lift roughly the same amount on the last 12 exercises.

B. Go as hard as you can the entire time, knowing that as the routine goes on, your performance will decline quickly, until by the 24th exercise your muscles are practically useless.

C. Split the routine into two 12 exercise segments so you can push to basically your maximum for every exercise.

D. Other (Please elaborate).

^x4 Yeah that may be too much. As far as lifting is concerned, I hit every muscle group once a week, and usually 4, sometimes 5 exercises per muscle is enough. Now others feel that you have to hit each muscle group twice or even more, which you can, but it wont leave anyroom for cardio.

It's just one of the P90X routines I do. They all have between 24-30 exercises in them. I try and juggle P90X/Insanity/running 6 days a week. And my goal is to gain definition. I don't really care about getting huge, I just want to be really toned.

Yes you're right, I am lazy. I work out about 8-10 times a week, go hiking almost every week, and play softball.

As it turns out I have gone through P90X fully twice, as well as Insanity twice. I know how the routines work. But right now I am not following the routine. The question I am asking is not how to do P90X. I am asking if there are better ways to divvy up the workout routines contained in the videos and perhaps maximize the results. I am not currently doing the P90X program, however I do like to take some of the routines (specifically the strength routines and Yoga) and mix them in with other activities.

But seriously, thanks for your perspective.

don't save anything for the next exercise(s), just switch muscle groups instead of resting and keep going

that'll get you where you want to be

I think he was just asking what the best method of attack/mental process to have when going through a p90x workout.

Most everyone has a strategy, and few can go 100% through a whole workout. Even at the gym I will often take it easy on one exercise because I know I have a tough one coming up.

I think it was a valid question for discussion, and whether you have 6 or 24 exercises in your workout there is an element of pacing that everyone considers before and during the workout!

Monday- 10 minute elliptical, 30 minute kickboxing- I had a time constraint so i couldn't do the whole 60 minutes
Wednesday-Aquatic blast, 60 minutes
Thursday- yogilates, 55 minutes
Saturday-25 minute elliptical
3x8x120 leg press
3x8x120 alternate leg press
3x10x40 chest press
3x8x30 overhead press
3x8x30 alternate overhead press
8x10sec vertical plank on dip (can't do dips yet)
3x8x45 dead lift
3x10x8 dumbbell jack

I have started making zone diet dinners except one day I ate Chic-fil-a with Ken and Maya (I had a chargrill chicken sandwich, which I am aware is still not healthy). I need to figure out breakfast because I work out in the morning and I need a good breakfast to sustain me through it. My lunches have been zone diet except for one day I ate Noodle and Company with Ken on Thursday (I had Thai Curry Soup with noodles).

I am starting to get in a good groove of eating habits and my workouts are not leaving me with as horrendous headaches as before. I still get them but not as bad. I will take pictures later.

i'm going back on southbeach diet tomorrow (well a modified version really - cause i don't know if the plan for the first two weeks will sustain me through my workouts)

so hopefully this will jumpstart more of the weightloss.

IMO it is the best workout program available. It lasts for 90 days and has a lot of different elements to it (strength/cardio/flexibility as well as a diet and supplement plan). I have before/after pictures in my gallery. It really helped me turn my life around and motivate me.

looks good! Honestly, I'd try to go light on the eating before a morning workout depending on how long it usually takes you to get through it. I know it isn't zone proportions, but I'd go with a simple apple and some kind of nut butter (If you can choose almond or sunbutter you'd be better off than peanut butter).

I went on a 72 mile bike ride yesterday. Went from Cary to Benson and then back. Burned somewhere along the lines of 4200 calories. I will take today kind of easy, probably just get on the elliptical machine for an hour or so. My ass is kind of sore, but not as bad as I thought it would be considering how it felt immediately post ride.

I'm thinking of doing a weekend ride to the beach with a couple of people later this summer.

It's ridiculously counterproductive.... I got more calories from alcohol in the span of 5 hours from alcohol than I do in a day.

i just finished my first full week of insanity

it is pretty intense but im not as sore as i expected i would be, which is great. i'm really looking forward to the routines and i get a massive surge of energy post-work out. i also have a support network of 3 other friends/coworkers that are doing it too & its nice to have the motivation & we track our progress on a google doc

my next step is to incorporate the diet portion of insanity. i need to make a grocery run & i'll be at home for a few weeks so i can get used to creating the meals. i have an idea of how to bring it with me on the road but i need to master it at home first.

my weight & body fat are the same as last week. i do have a little more energy and im sleeping less, which might sound weird but before i would sleep for like...10-13 hours a night. now i sleep 9 and i can't fall back asleep

EASILY

and a nap later wouldn't be out of the question

it wasn't that i was exhausted or anything, i just LOVE to sleep. and now i wake up sooner and feel just as rested

and just as an lol... i find that my relationships with people who will nap with me are much stronger (for example, my friends who i regularly nap with are closer friends than those who don't...but maybe the fact that we'll share a bed to sleep in the first place is part of it)

i am not happy with my "progress" (if thats what you want to call it-i think i may have regressed a bit :-/ ) at the moment but i am moving things around and doing things a little different.
this just means im really gonna have to bring it up a notch this week (which kinda sucks b/c we're going to see cody's mom this weekend and i'm gonna try to maintain healthy then )

i've been pretty bloated the past few days too because i have been eating way more sodium and carbs than normal.

oh well.

another week.

i got this

so i studied the insanity meal plan, selected the meals that i liked the best & that match best with my lifestyle. hit the grocery store & spent the last 2 hours measuring, packaging and figuring out all my meals for the week. it was LONG but now all my meals are ready to go, with some slight preparation (toasting, warming & cooking eggs for example). nothing major... i did that on purpose.

the level of food im going to be eating in 7 days blows my mind... its based on a 1600 calorie diet, which is what i calculated based on the formula in the meal plan book. but, i am eating 6 times a day so i guess it makes sense, but it also cost approx $70 at the store to buy it all!! granted, i already had some things but only ONE thing i bought will take me into week 2... craaazy

if anyone cares...here is my grocery list for 7 days of eating. and yes, i will eat the entirety of everything listed...

- 1 loaf whole grain bread (18 slices)
- 1 pack whole grain english muffins (6 muffins)
- 1 large tomato
- 1 small pack mushrooms
- 1 large pack baby spinach
- 1 bunch of bananas (6)
- 3 apples
- 2 pears
- 1 large container of greek yogurt
- 2 large containers of cottage cheese (< 1% milk)
- 1 small brick of feta cheese
- 2 cans of black beans
- 1/2 lb sliced deli turkey
- 1 pack blueberries
- 1/2 gal non fat milk (its not actually milk, i use lactose free milk)
- container of egg whites
- 1 carton eggs
- 1 avocado (this will take me into next week)
- 1 box kashi nutrition bars
- 1 jar all fruit preserve
- 1 pack reduced fat mozzarella cheese (this will carry me a little bit into next week)
- 1 onion
- approx 1/2 pack of jenny-o turkey bacon

like i said, my grocery bill was about $70. i think if i bought everything i needed again next week it would run me around $60 instead because i bought a few other things for meals next week

im excited to see my progress with the addition of following the meals.

i do my insanity fit test next week, i'll take my measurements again then & will post any progress i've made. im also tracking my body fat so i hope to see that drop a little bit too!
