I'm pretty sure I heard on ESPN radio that the reports of the investigation finishing this week were wrong and there's no telling when it'll end.

Yes the allegations of the NCAA being finished are bullshit.

There will be some type of punishment. They would have wrapped this up by now if they didn't have some kind of evidence.

From the presser via the N&O:

Quote :
"North Carolina football coach Butch Davis talked briefly about associate head coach John Blake but deflected questions about the NCAA's investigation into the Tar Heels football program at UNC's media day today.

Davis declined to talk about Blake's possible role in the investigation or Blake's relationship with agent Gary Wichard, who told The N&O that Blake is involved in the NCAA probe.
"I'm not talking about any of the things that have anything to do with [the NCAA] review," Davis said.

Blake and senior players Marvin Austin and Greg Little are the focus of the NCAA investigation into the program which became public on July 15. The NCAA interviewed Austin and Little about potentially receiving improper benefits from an agent.

Austin and Little, two of the team's best players, have been practicing with the second-team while their eligibility status is being evaluated by the NCAA.

Davis answered one question about Blake and then declined further comment about his recruiting coordinator.Davis said he hired Blake in Dec. 2006 because "he was a very good teacher, a good defensive line coach."

Asked if there was any question or concern about Blake's relationship with Wichard, an NFL agent who represents former UNC defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer, Davis said: "No."

Davis then added, "I'm not talking about any of the things that have anything to do with this review."

Here's a transcript of the questions about Blake and Davis' response from today's press conference:

Q: What was the primary reason that you hired John Blake?
Davis: "He was a very good teacher, a good defensive line coach."

Q: Was there any question in your mind about his relationship with Gary Wichard? Any concern?
Davis: "Any question in my mind? No. ... I'm not talking about any of the things that have anything to do with this review."

Q: Just to be clear, you're saying that the assistant coach is involved in the review?
Davis: "Just to be clear, I said we're not going to talk about the review."

Q: I didn't ask you about the review, I asked you about a coach.
Davis: "I know you did and I told you that anything that has anything to do with any kind of investigation or any kind of review, we're not going to talk about it. I'd be happy to talk all you want about football."

comments are hilarious. The tarheel fans have resulted in attacking Giglio

Butch was just pissed that he got tricked into indicating something he didn't want to. We need to get some audio of that exchange because I imagine the audio makes Butch sound like more of a prick while the text definitely makes the writer come off bad.

i like when somebody points out something like "Austin was flown out to California and he didn't pay for it" and some UNC fan is like "oh yeah? where'd you hear that, an unnamed source? hey i just heard from an unnamed source that CJ Leslie got $500,000 cash the other day. It must be true too!"

they might have to get rid of Blake though

only reason they get rid of Butch is if they lose scholarships or something like that, that hurts the program itself, and not just individual players

It's not like I'm saying he's definitely going to resign, but if the NCAA drops the hammer then I don't think Baddour would have any choice but to force him out...the BOT isn't going to tolerate that kind of besmirchment without heads rolling.

From IC:
Quote :
"Notice that the IC story says the NCAA will make a decision by Friday and I assume notify Dickie Baddour first. But the story also says it's not clear whether DB will make an annoucement by tomorrow or this weekend for that matter. I think DB coming out with his statement to retract the IC story is his way of saying he may not make an annoucement of his decision immediately after receiving the verdict. Surely, he wants to first internally meet and determine next steps with Coach Davis and the Ath Dept before the NCAA decision is made public. It's his way of controlling when information gets released. Notice this has been his approach all along to stay mum as much as he can and control the information from his office. He doesn't want the media or anonymous sources to control the storyline. He wants to be able to be in front of the story and manage it from an AD perspective.

What I think this all means is that we will get a press release from Baddour by the end of this weekend (Sunday-ish) or first of next week. Just my hunch, but it certainly does appear the NCAA plans to make their verdict by tomorrow and at the least top UNC athletic officials will know the outcome. "

So by saying that the ruling won't be made this week he means the ruling will be made this week. Wow. When they aren't posting on IC they must be slamming their heads in car doors to be this delusional.

Also, All this popcorn is making me thirsty.

All i notice from Mr. Barnes ^ story is that his story is shit. He's just trying to cover his "bashful blue" ass. What Joe Ovies said today (on a wral video segment) is that, the NCAA never leaks anything. And he's right. Apple should get them to handle iPhone testing. The USC investigation was wayyy more high profile and for all the years they investigated, nothing was known by anyone until the day they announced sanctions.

"slammin heads in car doors" lol, excellent visual of a 'Holes fan mindset and "marianas trench" level of delusion.

Here are the 12 stages of UNC fan NCAA investigation "acceptance"

1. Claim that the NCAA investigation is "good news" because UNC is now "big time"
2. Claim that NCSU fans reported UNC to the NCAA
3. Attack NCSU basketball recruits having been "seen" getting benefits
4. Claim nothing is wrong and that NCAA will leave without any sanctions
5. Ignore the problem and hope it goes away
6. Claim that evidence against Austin could easily have been "faked" and is not valid
7. Believe "sources" claiming that things are currently bad for UNC are make believe
8. Cling on to fake sources that claim things will be fine for UNC
9. Stop talking about it because the NCAA told them they weren't allowed
10. Accept that Austin will miss 1 game, but only Austin, and that UNC will beat LSU anyway
11. Accept that several players may be in trouble, and that the coach may have known something about it
12. Contradict yourself on IC, believing the NCAA will leave any day now, handing down only minor sanctions, and that the AD won't tell everyone until he's damn good and ready because he's effectively controlling the flow of information from his office.

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/unc-hires-former-ncaa-attorney-to-advise-on-investigation

Quote :
"The University of North Carolina has hired a lawyer with a background in NCAA rules compliance to advise the school while the NCAA investigates the Tar Heels football program.

Rick Evrard, a lawyer with Bond, Schoeneck & King in Overland Park, Kan., spent seven years on the NCAA staff, first as an enforcement representative and later as director of legislative services.

North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour said the school is using Evrard as a consultant. NCAA investigators have been to campus twice in the last six weeks in a probe of possible improprieties between football players and sports agents.

Baddour said he still has complete faith in assistant athletic director for compliance Amy Herman and university legal counsel Leslie Strohm.

“This is just something that we felt like, let’s don’t leave any stone unturned,” Baddour said this morning. “Let’s don’t look back on this and wish we had done something in a different way. Somebody who has experience going through this who can bring knowledge about what other schools have done, what’s been helpful in the past, what’s not been helpful, and help us know what to expect at each turn.”

Evrard sometimes helps schools conduct their own, independent investigations, but Baddour said he won’t do that for North Carolina. Although Evrard has visited Chapel Hill during this process, he won’t conduct any interviews.

Connecticut and Kansas are among the schools Evrard has advised.

“Leslie Strohm and I talked about it for some time and we thought that would be a good thing for us to do,” Baddour said. “We felt like it could be helpful. Other schools who had used similar kind of counsel have commented that it was helpful to them.”

All of this sounds like UNC trying weasel it's way out of this mess. I guess UNC is not conducting it's own investigation because NCAA is already hard at work? Or are they worried they'll find even more shit that maybe the NCAA missed and then they'll be obligated to turn over the new findings or risk a more severe punishment if they hide it?

yea, thats where the self imposed sanctions come in. Basically they slap themselves so the big bad NCAA doesnt whip out the extention cord and get medieval on their asses.

My favorite right now are the Heel fans saying " I feel like Little is fine and Austin will sit a few. Let's focus on LSU."

1. When asked, they say this is just based on "feeling." No need to base it on "sources" or "facts."
2. If I were them I'd focus on the investigation so they can blame the rectal tearing LSU will deliver on being distracted.
