what i'm saying is, if switzer doesn't bobble the ball and lower his head then there is no penalty. the defender really couldn't have done much different. looked to me like he was trying to lead with his shoulder, but due to the bobble the helmets collided.

it's a damn good tackle if the returner doesn't bobble it. shoulder to chest. that's a perfectly fine and good way to tackle a player in that situation. not every tackle has to be a wrap up tackle.

i get what you're saying...it's just a tough call to make in live action, imo.

it was a bad call. the helmet contact was more switzer's fault than anyone's. he screwed up and took the hit because of it. green's entire purpose for being on the field was to hit the kick returner, not help him get yardage waiting until he's "ready" to run the ball. he led with the shoulder to avoid that garbage.

and yes, switzer could (and should) have called for the fair catch. that was his first mistake.

it's just the way it worked out, but it was especially bad for clemson that it was an offsetting penalty. and their player got kicked out of the game on a play that didn't even count - they ended up re-playing the down.

i get what you're saying...but he chose not to call a fair catch. meaning that while he's in the act of fielding the punt he is considered defenseless. the penalty wasn't for "getting rocked"...he had every right to get rocked. the penalty, while i disagree with it, was called because the "rocking" was ruled to be targeting. he could've been rocked in a non-targeting tackle.
