Still think St. John’s and Arizona state over us is bullshit but whatevs. The selection committee has shown their true, if contradictory, selection criteria...We better schedule tougher out of conference opponents or go better than .500 in conference and actually rack up some quad 1 wins. Either is fine, but if we miss on both again, Keatts’s seat needs to get warm.

Dude just said we had plenty of opportunities vs Q1 opponents to get quality wins. But not all Q1 games are equal. Playing 5 games vs UVa, Duke, UNC isn’t the same as a Q1 game neutral court vs Penn state (which we one). We shouldn’t get dinged for losing to the best teams in the nation. We can rightly get dinged for losing to Wake or GT. But his logic was kinda flawed imo

That graphic definitely did not say first four out. I don't really understand putting 3 pac-12 teams in. Or St. John's. Or B1G teams that won 40% of their conference games.

^probably not totally worthless...but about as worthless as the RPI. It’s not the final say in who makes it, just helps sort/seed the teams that do meet other necessary criteria. There were teams with similar RPIs miss the tourney before. I mean, teams with an RPI similar to our NET miss the tourney

Hard to know. Seems like at 24-9 and 11-7, there’s no way we get left out. But the committee chair pointed to lack of Q1 wins, not bad losses or bad schedule. My guess, given our resume included those bad losses, we needed another good/great win to make up for it. We didn’t have that. Had we beaten Wake and GT - we’re in without needing better wins.

Arizona State had good wins, but worse losses than us and still made it. Kinda like us last year, we had good wins to cancel our bad losses.

^^this 100% my non-expert opinion, but it seems like NET was used similarly to RPI. Not as a final, definitive ranking of teams. But as a guide to sort teams into groups and help seed teams that have otherwise deserving resumes.

I agree it seems completely stupid. If you invent a ranking system that says we’re the 33rd best team, then we should be in the NCAAT. But that’s not really how RPI was used either.
