One university is being dragged through the mud in the news for plaigarism and the chancellor is personally having to revamp student conduct

The other university has Paul Cousins

""He's got a lot of intensity," Renner said. "Not saying Coach Davis didn't, but I think he has a lot more energy and he wants to win really bad. He'll do whatever it takes. That's what we like about it. Even bringing it to the offensive side of the ball. He was slapping people on the butts and all that stuff today. It was awesome.""

Not to derail the thread, but Paul cousins has no real check to his authority, nor does he have any reasonable level of evidence required for him to make a 'conviction' (can't think of the word i wanted to use lol). Both systems are broken, I wouldn't tout ours as being good.

Perhaps unc's reform will lead to a more balanced system... something between tyranny and the inmates running the asylum.

And no I was never in his office for anything I did, in fact his office protected my ass in one case. However having read their policies and rules and shit, its scary...

This is what was posted on IC to describe the news being talked about, still rumors to this point

- 5 scholarships a year is a 20% reduction so pretty strong, though would like to see 4 years instead of 3.
- 2 year bowl ban is the most years you'll ever see anyway so this is good.
- On the budget issues they'll spin this like a punishment when actually its just how they're going to end up paying off butch.

Thoughts?

If they decrease the budget and still have to pay Butch then they are losing more than if they just paid Butch?

Quote :
""They have retained attorneys to explore legal action against Chancellor Holden Thorp, citing misrepresentation, possible fraud and unfair trade practices by firing football coach Butch Davis a week before practice started."

"The chancellor has done a lot of talking, and our clients relied on what the chancellor said publicly," Brown said. "They believed him. But he misled a lot of folks. And the chancellor"s bait-and-switch with Coach Davis has hurt a lot of people. They never would have made this kind of investment had the chancellor been straight up from the beginning."

"Very few coaches in America would have had the kind of drawing power that Coach Davis had and has to raise that kind of money for that kind of project in a down economy. It now appears that they used Butch"s name to raise the money, and then dumped him once the money was raised."

The Public Records Request is designed to elicit information on whether Thorp purposely waited to terminate Davis until after he had the money for the project.

The attorneys working the case, all UNC alumni, will file this request sometime this week.

The request will demand correspondence between Thorp and other individuals, including Board of Trustee members, Board of Governor members and other influential people, such as Art Chansky, Jim Heavner, and former UNC Presidents William Friday and Erskine Bowles.

"We"re handling this matter free of charge because of our love for Carolina, and our concern about these investors who were misled," Brown said. "We intend to get to the bottom of what really happened."

Attorneys handling this action on behalf of investors include Brown, of Charlotte, Matthew J. Dixon of Elizabethtown, J. Scott Hampton of Greensboro, Mark A. Johnson and Ray Smith III."

I'm curious as to when the NCAA convicts them of at least one major violation under Butch's watch that he "should have known about." His contract states that he can be terminated with no pay if that happens. Have no idea how hiring a tutor fired by your school isn't something he "should have known about." Her dismissal wasn't exactly a matter of national security that Butch had no idea about. I think Butch was owed 200-300k immediately, but the bulk to be paid much later. And October with the COI is fast approaching. I'd be surprised if Butch gets his 2.7mil.

^^ it is! that's what's so beautiful about all this: the bleeding-edge of the lunatic fringe is getting ready to really upset the apple cart over there. There so bat-feces stupid about having big-time football they're gonna use the bluezone, which may come to signify tears of anguish, and hold that over the head of Thorp, the BOT, the BOG, basically the entire school.

And somewhere Deems May is shedding a tear of satisfaction over the chain-reaction he's caused.

I'm really surprised at the amount of public backlash by the holes fans over this. In the past when their fball team sucked they abandoned ship in a flash and gone straight to "wait till bball". This is fun to watch.

someone needs to tell the "Blue Zone Investors" that just like a recruit commits to the school, so do the investors. When the coach leaves, you can't get your money back.

My thoughts exactly. Were this to happen, it would be by far the best part of the scandal so far. Couldn't think of a better ending to all of this than UNC fans, who have more money than sense, suing their school and forcing them to reveal more infractions and evidence of a cover-up. UNC's finances, reputation, and credibility would be fucked 3 ways from Sunday and the NCAA would crucify them.

Note: I don't believe any of this will actually happen, but if it did, it would be lollerific.

It's not that they invested and then things went south, it's that they invested with the entire UNC hierarchy telling them that everything was going to be ok, Butch was still their guy, and they thought the NCAA allegations were just going to blow over. Convinced of this, the investors say "ok, here's some money because we're on board with this direction."

Then, right after the checks get cashed, Thorpe fired Butch, the AD resigns, and now UNC wants to self impose pretty harsh bans on themselves for the next couple of years.

Those investors lost their money to fraud on the part of UNC and on the part of Holden Thorpe. If he honestly had no new evidence that warranted firing Butch, and it's true that he's been thinking about firing Butch since six months ago... How can it not be fraud? If UNC had told the investors that they were going to fire Butch, then the investors would have just kept their money for a couple of decades. If that's the case, they should be entitled to their money back.

So, how do bowl bans work anyway, because at the moment it looks like a mitigated form of punishment. Oh, he wants to self-impose a 2 year bowl ban, and why not? Their chances of even qualifying for a bowl game in the next 2 years is in question so you might as well take the bowl ban punishment now to reduce the impact.

It would work out for him because since the beginning UNC has appeared to be in the punish ourselves to lessen punishment doled out by the NCAA mode. Makes perfect sense for them to purposely tank one or two seasons if it means they'll come back a lot sooner than they otherwise would have.

They'll probably make a bowl this year. Their schedule is about as easy as ours if I remember correctly, and they have some talent on defense.
