Did you have a yakju ROM on there previously? And the ota screwed it up?
using a factory image is not the same as flashing a ROM. Using a factory image wipes the device completely.... Was my understanding. Factory images are for fresh starts on Dev devices, or for fixing a "soft brick"
Idunno if you did the image to update, or what... Its a little unclear to me. (Sorry if some of this is obvious to you, just trying to piece together what exactly you did)
nvm, i read your original post, i got you... ota, problems, flash image.

Anyone had any luck getting a usb/unifying/wireless mouse or keyboard working on any of the Nexus devices with an OTG cable? Just got one and I can't get anything to work on the Nexus 7. They all work fine on my Note II. 8/7/2013 9:22:14 AM |

grrr I get so frustrated with these Nexus devices. They don't come with any drivers. OTG mouse/keyboard support is supposed to work out of the box and it doesn't and you have to root the thing to mount drives. With my Note II everything works out of the box including drive support. 8/7/2013 10:27:22 AM |

question about exchange security:
Last page I posted about my company upgrading to MSEx 2010, so when I updated my phone, it forced me to do a security update for exchange to give admin rights to the MSEx admin.... the admin says they have no such policies setup for personal devices and only android devices give this message/warning/update.
What's the risk of me doing the update so I can get work email on my phone? Does the update just make giving permissions available or does it actually go ahead and give said permissions? 8/7/2013 11:59:16 AM |

I used to hate fixed batteries too since I enjoyed swapping them on occasion, but I just picked up a 10,000 mAh power block from Amazon that alleviates that issue for me...plus I think having a non-removable back allows device makers to improve on the design quality of the phones (a la HTC one). As far as the battery being prone to failure, for me, that's not a big issue as Verizon extends the device warranty indefinitely since I'm paying insurance. Obviously everyone's scenario is different though.
Quote : | "Yeah again no SD slot" |
For me, not a big issue since I stream most of my content. Only place I would like an SD slot is on an uber long plane/car rides for using after my laptop dies...but that's not a common scenario for me.

Yeah to each his own. Not everyone uses either of those features. I do a bit of traveling by plane/car and go backpacking a lot. I swap my batteries out quite a bit and store lossless music, tv shows, and movies on my SD card. I would lose a lot of functionality if I gave up either of those features. 8/7/2013 4:47:20 PM |

you really can't understand the advantages of having the ability to replace the single most common component to fail and of simply removing the component containing things like photos and video in case of an accident that toasts the phone?
the average person just wants their phone to be pretty and "fast"...but i want a device that can do more than make calls, browse facebook, and take drunk party pictures that no one will miss if they get lost
i'm not saying everyone who doesn't agree with me is wrong, but i think it makes a person kind of narrow-minded if they can't fathom why others would want such basic features as a user-replaceable batteries and the ability to expand storage (ESPECIALLY when the device can take high(ish)-quality photos and 1080p video...that stuff adds up fast)8/8/2013 9:31:17 AM |

im pretty sure the idea that having a removable card isn't the appropriate DR strategy for a phone, but backing the data up locally or to the cloud is. the battery i 100% agree on, but I see it as a means of getting carrier subsidies as a non-replaceable battery probably leads to more contract vehicles (upgrades) ] 8/8/2013 9:38:00 AM |

i don't disagree with you...i have my stuff backed up to the cloud, too
but fuck if i've found a "perfect" solution that keeps everything backed up every minute of every day, especially without have boatloads of duplicated data...right now, the best i can say is that i've got my phone backed up within the week
but between the last backup and whenever something crappy happens, i LIKE knowing that i can simply remove the card and not worry about it
and that's independent of the storage issue...why pay some stupid high premium for a 32GB model when a 16GB model + 32GB microSD card costs much less for more space?
again, i realize not everyone uses all the storage they have and it's a minority that i'd consider power users (i'm betting most of you don't even qualify)...but i don't care about YOU, i care about ME

it's also probably easier/cheaper to design a phone that doesn't have a removable battery compartment...but you're right, i imagine the carriers enjoy the "haha, fuck you" money they're able to glean from insurance as a result of stupid simple shit like bad batteries8/8/2013 10:08:29 AM |

Considering almost all carriers have limits on data it's highly beneficial to be able to store music, tv shows, movies, etc on a 64GB flash card that costs <$50 compared to paying (usually) $100+ for an extra 16GB built into the phone. It's a no brainier. Not to mention I do phone rom backups on it.
Also "the cloud" is not always accessible especially for people who travel a lot (plane, no/bad signal in a car, etc) or people who go to remote locations (hiking, climbing, etc).
To me those are the two biggest features I usually look for in a phone. Why I'm sticking to the Galaxy line. I would bet 75%+ people put a case on their phone anyway and the difference between an HTC case and a Galaxy case is barely noticeable.
-plus with all these larger phones having really nice 720-1080p displays you could easily chew through your monthly allotment of data streaming one movie if you don't have wifi. It's nice to be able to stick a few 4-12 GB movies on my SD card and not have to worry about buffering, data allotment, quality, etc and just watch my movie.
^Exactly if you guys aren't power users then that's alright but that doesn't mean you can't understand why particular power users may want these features.

Not many Android users I know use cases. They seem to be more prevalent with the iPhones.
I'd be more down for SD cards if I could insert/remove one without having to take the back off my phone. It seems like those two features of removable batteries and SD cards go together. Do any flagship type phones allow for SD cards without having to remove the back?
Wait so to be considered a power user you must have the need for SD card storage. Ok. I am not a power user if that is the metric that must be met.

not that i'm aware of...though the frequency with which i remove the SD card just for fun is low enough that it doesn't bother me to pop the back off...the USB cable or downloading directly to the card via wifi usually suffices

look, let's just agree to disagree...the most important thing to you is to have a pretty phone and it's worth sacrificing some features to get it...others would prefer function over form
furthermore, you don't want to make your pretty phone ugly by throwing on a case and screen protector...that's fine, it's your phone...others would prefer to keep the phone safe from damage in the first place

Screen protectors are entirely worth it. I use the cheap iSmooth brand online and once you stick it on you literally can't tell there's a protector on it except for the edges. They sent me like 6 and I replace them every 3-4 months and it's much better than getting my screen all scratched up. But yeah I'm pretty rough with my phones so a case and screen protector is essential. 8/8/2013 10:55:26 AM |

For something that I carry with me all the time and often go rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, and kayaking with I most certainly have a case and screen cover on it. uh, well, you did (#15883140 combined with #15883146)

i'm not sure why you've abandoned common sense and resorted to silly comparisons
you compared using your phone to SEX...seriously...you didn't make a point, you just ensured that no one would take your opinion seriously because you think that using your phone and sex are similar
i suspect you're mostly alone in this "screen protectors ruin the experience of using my smartphone!" position, but i'd love to hear more opinions...maybe people are throwing down their protected-screen phones in disgust all the world over?

by definition, a feature exists regardless of whether you see value in it or not...so you can't really choose whether it's a "feature", all you can do is determine whether the thing that exists has value for you
i realize this is semantics, but it never ceases to amaze me how some folks who supposedly have a college education fail to grasp simple concepts or understand the basics of the language they speak...at least you're finally giving up on the silly sex comparison, amusing though it was
