Not really. The car was overturned, so realistically, just about every external body panel was probably damaged. That can total up to $18,000 pretty quickly, even if you're driving something fairly basic like a Chevrolet Tahoe (I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was an SUV, not only because it flipped at "45 MPH", but for various reasons, some of which involve stereotyping).

this may be true, but 18k will total just about any average person's car.

^^Even so you can't do more damage than the car was worth. It isn't like okapu rolled home and borrowed his dads new car his dad is in georgia...It sounds like to me the kid had the exclusive use of a fairly new car valued at the very least over 18,000 dollars. Maybe his family is rich enough to afford that as the secondary vehicle but given the number of lexuss, bmws, and mercedes (and new dodges) that were discovered during the parking ticket fiasco I wouldn't be surprised if there is yet another prong waiting to be unearthed.

you can, but then I would expect the news media to say he "totaled the car" as opposed to "$18000 dollar bux in damages"

^^ for the purposes of insurance evaluation I believe it is deemed totaled after >50% of the cars value and as such I don't think a value would be placed on the damage outside of "totaled". However I have never totaled a car so I really don't know.

Oh so now I see why Devin Hester didn't commit.

It's sickening to think how much time you waste caring about college sports and its all fucking rigged.

God I cant wait for when the UNC basketball program finally gets caught too

I think UNC might get off light, because the NCAA is stockpiling all the hammers they can find to drop on Miami

This was posted on IC in reference to the car crash news...

I'm not exactly sure how this can be taken out of context...it seems fairly black and white to me.

^^you're not gonna get a speeding ticket dismissed just because other people are being charged with murder and armed robbery

^i predict UNC fan's reponse to be "but Davidson transferred 3 weeks earlier, he wasn't a UNC student athlete, and the 3 UNC football players were just passengers"

which is actually kind of a valid, if bullshit, excuse

^Supposedly just passengers. There really is no way of saying who was the actual driver. Even if the police officer wasn't actively trying to cover for the players there would be question as to who was the actual driver because the officer most likely wasn't on the scene when the accident happened.

So the "I-Team" is going to investigate whether he was fired because of a message board and a few athletes. Maybe the article flow is a bit off and they meant that they would investigate whether there were any improprieties during the initial accident write-up? Surely that would be the cause of termination rather than "message board"

Reason for termination: The internet was invented, eventually someone put a message board on it.

Wait. So this tar heel smitty guy is a cop, he filed a bogus police report, then quit his job, blabbed about it on twitter and he's blaming a message board and the athletes??

LOL at this latest news. UNC can't go a week without having some more shady shit go on. Time for the basketball team to start being pulled into this mess.

UNC has already lost their head football coach, that's a big shot on its own. They will probably get a one year bowl ban as well (at least), and they may even self impose it oddly enough. They have a bunch of juniors that are talented enough that I imagine will jump in the NFL draft if they are even a 4th round pick or better (Moss, Reddick, Z Brown, Highsmith) to avoid coming back and not playing in a bowl. They also lose 6-7 starters who are seniors in 2011. UNC will not be tanking in the W/L column this year, but 2012 should get the ball rolling.

Keep in mind while the Miami stuff is bad, it's nothing to do academcially, i.e. the professors, and acdemic support staff have not been hit with anything.

I still can't get past that tarheellsmitty guy, it's got to be a joke. There's now way losers like this exist that can be a part of law enforcement?? Tell me it isn't possible.

Unless this officer blabs about the ordeal to the media, the department has no obligation to release any disciplinary information outside of reason for investigation (i.e. citizen complaint), result (sustained, unfounded) and any action resulting (termination, suspension).

he was some douchey guy on twitter who would talk shit to some local media people defending UNC through the investigation

now it turns out IRL he was Butch's personal cop at UNC, and the same officer to let the 4 drunk football players go with a warning when they flipped their car on campus in May

Butch Davis leaves the U beginning a decade of cheating (with little results for the bulk of the time) and corruption that spanned football and basketball. The result of which will be the ultimate hammer from the NCAA.

Butch Davis is forced to leave UNC...

Heather Dinich is being ripped apart by rabid UNC fans every time she mentions the UNC violations. It's hilarious to read.

I haven't heard anyone mention that Paul D, chair on the NCAA infractions committee, was the AD at Miami and Hired Butch Davis and then also conveniently left Butch out of the letter of allegations to UNC.

That's because Paul Dee isn't on the COI, the COI doesn't write the NOA, and Paul Dee doesn't like Butch Davis.
