How much worse could this Swahili course look?

Quote :
""He is very passionate about these students learning something in his class, learning the things they need to do, learning how to do research, learning how to do papers, albeit probably not like the normal student that comes into Carolina," Reynolds said. "And that's where he's willing to be a little more flexible.""

lol mostly As is right, but you just need a D to pass at UNC

he's never given an F ever haha

the rare Ds he has given were probably to people who never attended a single class

Dan Kane: he shoots he scores.

Best article written yet to-date on this. The best part was where he clearly references PP noting how the overwhelming majority of foozball players are either in communications or exercise sports science.

Considering that there is a quote from a UNC basketball player about how all of the players take swahili...
Quote :
"In addition, his academic track record was often less than sparkling as well. As one former teammate noted: “I think he failed Swahili. Everyone on the team takes that class and I’m pretty sure Will was the first one to fail.” "

I imagine there are some improprieties here but ironically this transcript is what FERPA is really there to protect, random ass people getting your grades and splattering your bad ones around.

If I remember the policy at State correctly, a D in a course allowed you to move on to a higher level class, but it wasn't considered a passing grade, and you would have to retake it if you wanted it to count toward graduating or if it was part of your major.

It depended on the class on whether or not you could advance with a D. Freshman year classes and some others are C-wall classes where you have to get at least a C- to continue. I think you are required to have at least a 2.0 gpa to graduate, so you can't make C's in C-wall classes and then D's in others and graduate.

80% a's and b's for undergrads at UNC-CH. that was in 2007, 7 years after they were found to give 70% a's and b's and were supposed to correct it.

This university gives you deans list. how the fuck do you get a d? in swahili? why do you need to cheat??? these have got to be some of the dumbest players in the country

I'm seeing a whole lot of "HUUURRRRR EVERYONE DOES THIS."

You know, the people that say "every school does this" are probably right to some extent.

The difference is that not all schools love to call themselves a "public ivy", and tout their high graduation rates (just give everyone an A!), and put out promotional videos about "The Carolina Way" specifically defined as honesty and NOT cheating.

Basically, they only think they're different than us when they can pretend to be better. When they're found to do something normal, they act like they haven't been arrogant since the beginning of time, and we're all supposed to say "there but for the grace of god goes NC State."

^^Exactly. Every college has "cake courses" and you'll probably find a lot of athletes in these classes. And there's nothing wrong with a professor who grades in a manner that would allow the students to get a A or B without too much effort. However, I think there is something a little off with allowing a freshman star football player, who needs remedial English classes, in a 400 level (open to undergrad and grad students) courses prior to taking his remedial English courses.

If your class is just an easy class, or if you're an easy professor, great. But if you're specifically choosing to grade easily for the sake of grade inflation (or for the athletes), that's definitely wrong. The difficulty is in proving any of that.

The thing that I found more disturbing is the allegations that admittance into the course was dependant upon "department approval" meaning this could easily be a class reserved for athletes.

^Exactly...it'll be interesting to see if anymore article/reports come of this. I don't know much about it, but I'm sure FERPA and other privacy laws would make it hard for the media to do a whole lot of digging here, but we'll see.

Who can register for a class certainly should not be protected by FERPA and if it is found out that registration for this class is restricted
That is at least one more NCAA violation and it will encourage the NCAA to start looking at basketball!!

I doubt BD would give a shit if you put NCSU magnets on his car. He changed the colors of the football uniforms because he wouldnt wear powder blue and he was fired by them resigned so he could still take the money.

Yeah, something tells me he couldn't care less about a jab from a valet fan of a [former] rival school after he collected millions of dollars for never accomplishing anything of worth and continues to collect millions more for not doing a damn thing.

I'd venture to guess that Butch is laughing all the way to the bank and doesn't give a damn what any NCSU or UNC fan thinks or says.

Not to mention the fact that he's so slick that, at least for now, his name isn't tied directly to any NCAA violations so he can probably weasel his way to another highly paid gig relatively easily.

Swofford waits until Miami gets busted to speak about NCAA violations being a problem in the ACC

And basically implies UNC's 9 major violations are just jaywalking

UNC just can't help but lie. They had to correct the number of freshmen who take 400 level classes figure. Of course they drastically overstated...

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/iteam/unc-overstated-number-of-freshmen-taking-upper-level-classes-in-marvin-austin-story

And TOB chimes in:
