i saw some new tights on the today show last week that are tights on top but socks from about midcalf down. i can't remember the name

Anyone else enjoy thrift stores? I have no idea why, but I have infinitely better luck buying pants at thrift stores than retail. I can go to 20 retail stores in a day and maybe find one pair of pants that fits me well. Last night I went to Goodwill (the new one in Morrisville) and tried on 7 pairs of jeans and 6 of them fit perfectly. Plus all 5 that I bought cost like $17 total, and they were good brands. I still have never been to the more selective type consignment places like Plato's Closet though.

i don't like plato's closet for 2 reasons:
1) they wouldn't buy any of my clothes because they weren't "in style"
2) most of the clothes they sell look like something i might have worn when i was 15

so basically, i'm an old lady.

where is the new goodwill in morrisville?

Grace Park at the corner of Davis Drive and Morrisville Carpenter.

I have heard bad things about Plato's specifically as well, but I don't know the names of all the other similar ones that are aimed at a little older crowd.

it's in crabtree mall. Yes they hem. I dropped off my stuff this afternoon. Didn't want to pay the extra to get it today. Should be ready after 5 tomorrow.

Sweet. There's one on Western closer to my house than the mall so I think I'll stop there.

Do you mind me asking what they charged you to do your pants?

i didn't get any of them hemmed. I got them taken in at the waist and it was $9 per pant.

That's an awesome deal. I can't imagine it's more than $20 to do a hem. Thanks!

I just got 2 new pairs of jeans and I want to take 2 older pairs I have that are really long and have them hemmed so I have 2 pairs of everyday, one pair to go out in/wear heels with, and one shorter pair (ankle length) that I can dress up or dress down.

Great haircut Wolfy!

I have an interview next month and I need outfits for both the interview and a dinner

I have my outfit for the interview but I don't know what to wear to the dinner.

Should I do a dress or skirt and blouse?

Also, who wants to go get their nails done with me!?

If you are in Raleigh, I have had great luck at the Mitchell's Academy on buck jones. Cheap, and the instructor will finish it off if needed. I will continue to go there, have had much better experiences than anywhere else (because I'm too cheap to pay $50+).

^ where do you go?

i loved my last haircut. it ended up being ~ $50 (including the tip, so $40 for the cut)

can we talk about tipping w/ haircuts? does everyone just do 20% like in the food industry? i don't really know what the appropriate amount is

yea last time i did $10 which was a little over 20% but i really loved the haircut. and i usually hate getting my haircut but this guy did exactly what i wanted, even though i wasn't even sure what i wanted hahaha. that makes no sense but i do awful descriptions and then i'm like "you know what, just something like that but whatever YOU think will look good"

and he did a great job. at hair color experts. they have cheaper people than the guy i saw but he was one of the like master ones or whatever so his was a little more expensive. but i think it was worth it. and i think i did that in like sept/oct and my hair has looked great since. but i'm due for another cut cause i'm starting to see split ends.

NOT a lot though since i have switched shampoos (well conditioner mostly) and changed my washing and styling techniques a little! it is amazing what little tweaks in styling routine make in the health of hair!

i go to loxxe on jones - my girl has cut and dyed my hair for the last 4 years.

i usually give my girl 20% because she does a good job and i know my hair always looks great. so mine is usually close to $50 by the time i walk out there but it's worth it. i have very thick and curly hair and she knows how to cut it just right. i used to try the cheaper places in the past and they just don't know how to cut hair.

it was the paul mitchell school, so if there's a major issue, the teacher steps in. i haven't had a problem with a bad color or cut there before.

my ideeli.com stuff just came today!!! YAY! haven't tried the shirts on yet, just got home to find the package waiting for me. BUT THE PURSE IS AMAZING OMG I AM IN LOVE.

for reference, see this page of this thread: message_topic.aspx?topic=288263&page=197

the purse is even better than i imagined. $100 purse for $30something dollars. <3

i have 2 more tops that should be arriving next week...then i'm officially prohibited from ideeli.coming for a few weeks.

but all the stuff i got (sans maybe one sweater) i can wear year round so...i consider them good investments.

tops coming next week:

i'm a tunic + legging kind of girl so i'm super excited.

I can't get a shampoo there (allergic to some of the stuff in it) so I just go for the $6 cut at the school, tip about the same. wash and cut is $8, wash, cut and blow dry is $12.

They are WAY better than any $12 hair cut place. So much better than great clips, etc. I usually plan on it taking 2 hours, but last time I went the day before graduation and it only took 1 hour.

I do suggest taking some pics of what you want with you, but I always do that anyway because I am not good at using words to describe hair.

i'm not good at using words to describe hair either

one time i said "edgy" and i mean like...not super whispy layers but more like chunky straight edged layers. and he thought i meant edgy like emo kid edgy. like livin' on the edge. like edgy mullet.

that almost turned out bad. really bad. i don't want a mullet. and def not an emo kid mullet lol

Ladies, I have started taking a beginner sewing class and I have to pick out my first project I'll be working on by Tuesday. I am excited

The teacher suggested we use a paper pattern rather than an online one for our first project so I'm cruising around Simplicity and McCall's websites right now.

The question is, what do you think I should do for the first project:

1) A cute tote bag I can use when buying stuff at the farmer's market.
2) An apron (teacher said these are good first projects and current cooking apron is fugly )
3) Yoga pants (because you can never have enough lounge around the house pants lol)
4) Something else

If any of you know of a specific easy pattern that is awesome I'd love to see them too!
