Scott Wood is not a poor defender, he may not be as good a defender as Leslie due to Leslie's length and leaping ability but I remember him making a number of impressive defensive plays last season.

Yeah at least they did mention their earlier mistake...but it just seems a little dishonest to edit the actual article they published on 4-26, removing an entire section with their "Leslie to Kentucky is imminent. Just don't expect to hear about it anytime soon." prediction, and replacing it with what actually happened two days later, without mentioning anywhere in the article that they edited it.

hell i could start a recruiting site too, and always be right just by editing the articles as the facts come out.

^^Agreed. When you like at Wood, he seems like the kind of guy your Grandma could score on. But he's actually deceptively quick and his great all-around instincts. He surprised the hell out of me on the defensive end of the floor last year.

Same reason there are so few white wide receivers and cornerbacks

I will say Kirk Hinrich is an excellent defender, as is Andrei Kirelenko

but they are the exceptions

If someone's main reason for thinking someone isn't a great defender (Wood) is because he is white, the best way to argue against it isn't to bring up another white player and talk about how he did a good job defending him

Even if Singler was one of the better white players in college ball this year

I'd rather point to some of his great plays, like when he ran down some black dude on a fast break and blocked his layup attempt (can't remember who the player was though...Clemson game maybe?)

I think Wood is a better defender than he looks like, but I also think a guy like CJL should be a much better defender

It doesn't matter what color singler is.

Wood defended singler well, and singler scored against other wing players at will, most of them black.

let's assume Wood is a below average defender, who are the awesome 2s and 3s that are going to take advantage of him? Joe Trapani? Shumpert? Noel Johnson? The only ones I would be remotely worried about are Harrison Barnes, a few of Miami's guards (Scott is pretty sick), and Dorenzo Hudson.

He was a victim of racism by the refs this year. He had multiple clean blocks called fouls because the refs refused to believe a white boy could make a play like that.

I'm usually the first to call out someone who sucks at defense because that shit drives me crazy.

Wood is not a bad defender as everyone (especially myself) expected.

It was one of the bright spots of our season actually.

He did an awesome job on Landesburg who is black.

I think Wood played a few too many minutes last season and that probably didnt help his 3pt %.

He should probably be playing 25 minutes/game next year as he splits time with CJW when he slides down to the 3, the occasional Josh Davis sighting, and potentially CJL moving up to the 3.

he ran down several fast breaks during the season and is a hell of an athlete. he played pretty much all 5 positions at times in high school and a lot at pg.

Scott Wood was actually one of the better defenders on our team. He did a good job of staying with his man, used his length to his advantage, is more athletic than most people will give him credit for, and makes some great plays on defense every now and then. You remember when Mays was screwing around in the first FSU game, lost the ball, and the FSU player looked like he had an easy lay-up/dunk only to have Scott Wood catch him and pin his shot on the backboard? You're going to tell me a player that can do that isn't athletic or a good defender? How about the Clemson games when similar things were done?
