You know it is possible to one-off some pieces.

Agreed. That's one of the few cars in this thread which doesn't look like it's doing a bad imitiation of a monster truck. Of course, those are probaly "only" dubs, or maybe even 19s...

That's probably a '74-76 Impala or Caprice. Not sure if both models had that particular roof as an option. The car could probably be had for $2K or so in good shape, though it would take you a while to find a decent one. Then you're looking at probably a $1K paint job, some light bodywork, interior to suit your tastes and pocketbook, and a $10K plus set of rims. So probably $15-20K before any crazy stereo or interior work.

SHit, you can find the car for about $3k in close to that shape. Pop on some new chrome, bodylift, and wheels and you gots you a pimpin ride for say $7 alotting $4k for wheels.

[Edited on November 4, 2004 at 9:50 PM. Reason : Thats not a popular model and there should be plenty left out there.]

You're seriously underallocating for the rims, I think. But we're not that far off on the car--you said $3K for the car in that condition, I said $2K for the car and a grand to do a nice paint job. I think I overestimated for miscellany--adjust my range to say $10-15K.

Saw one of these in Durham on Friday night. Mid 70's full-size Buick sedan with what appeared to be dubs (wasn't lifted). Brown in color. Saw only from a distance, though, so I can't be too specific.

having bigger wheels/tires wont make it that much harder to stop those bigass cars, you ought to know this.

Well it is all the trend to upgrade the brakes on the newer stuff so why not the older stuff? Larger rolling stock will make it harder to stop.

I think I saw them on sugar creek rd in charlotte the time somebody got shot as I was driving by the parking lot. Seriously, let me find the thread.

A cop actually flew past me, leaving the scene when all that shit started happening. Later that night the road was blocked off by a lot of police....

That couldn't be further from the truth. Wheels are unsprung weight, just like brakes, swaybars and the suspension bits themsleves. Every pound of unsprung weight has the effect of 5-10lbs of sprung weight being added to the car. So you are talking about adding 30-40lbs per corner of extra wheel and tire weight, which would be the same as adding 800-1600lbs to the car.

Yes any car, even a 4000lb hunk of american iron will notice that, and work its braking system harder. And the problem is further compounded by the largerer diameter wheels since the bulk of the wieght in a wheel/tire combo is the tire. The largerer diamter wheel moves the tire further from the hub increasing its effect through the greater leverage

Next time actually think before you spout off to someone, especailly when what your spouting is completely wrong

Here we go again with someone else talking out of their ass.

We arent talking VW's and Audis here where the stock brake system is barely enough to stop the unmodified car. Most of these older american cars came from the factory with brake systems adaquate enough to allow towing the family boat or camper across country on vacation. I stand behind my statement. I drove the bigass blue Delta 88 in my gallery for months with no working rear brakes- the front brakes were enough to stop the car by themselves. With brakes functioning properly on all 4 wheels I have no doubt I could have handled "800-1600lbs" easily.

i dont know who's argueing with who and who is sucking whos dick 'cause i aint reading all that shit. but speaking from experience, when i had 20s on my truck (dont ask, i didnt ask for them to be on there. it just worked out that way), my brakes wore the fuck out twice as fast as before. even now that im back to 16s even with 33s they arent as heavy as those fucking 20s, my brakes are back to wearing normally.
