i dont like the yankees at all but even more than that i hate the overwhelming size of the red sox bandwagon
so im taking a stand and pulling for the yankees, although it will be hard 10/12/2004 4:26:31 PM |

^ yea i hate the bandwagoners too
but they arent going to stop the true fans from rooting just as hard...
I bet half of these sox bandwagoners have never even heard of Bill Lee, Yaz, or Jim Rice (just to name a few)

I've been both my whole life...Sox in the AL, Mets in the NL...i lived in New England (Sox territory) but close to NYC (Mets/Yanks territory obviously)
I would goto like 10-15 games from each team every summer
86 was tough to pick a team (even though I was 5) cuz my Mom was a Sox fan and Dad a Mets fan...I just kinda latched onto both 10/12/2004 4:40:14 PM |

I don't claim to be a Red Sox fan, and I really don't like baseball, but, I have 2 thoughts:
1. I'm tired of the Yankees winning
2. I want to see the Cubs and Red Sox win. 10/12/2004 4:49:16 PM |

The last time I rooted for the Yankees was when Pat and Roberto Kelly were on the team.
I don't even think Bernie Williams was a rookie at that point, either. 10/12/2004 5:32:17 PM |

I liked the Yanks to win this series going in, but if they beat Schilling in Game one they become a pretty heavy favorite in my estimation....
Pedro hasn't done well against the Yankees so they could def be going back to Boston down 2-0.
They have to get to Mussina tonite, but look at Ortiz's stats against him... like 1-17? ouch 10/12/2004 8:49:44 PM |

well does anyone think they sound a little Pro Yankee, i mean can we talk about Derrick Jeter just one more time, I mean dont get me wrong he is a good player, all star worthy but not a freaking superstar, they talk this guy up way too much, i mean look at his stats http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?statsId=5406&context=batting
they are decent but not eyepopping, he hit .292, OBP of .385(not too impressive) and he doesnt knock in lots of runs nor hit many homers
i hope someone else can see this 10/12/2004 8:51:12 PM |
BRob82 All American 4967 Posts user info edit post |
Jeter is the leader of that team, thats y they talk him up, just like Varitek isn't an All Star, but he's a great leader 10/12/2004 8:54:14 PM |
Thecycle23 All American 5913 Posts user info edit post |
Stats aren't everything.
Jeter is the heart and soul of the team. And its not unreasonable to think they wouldn't do nearly as well without him.
There's a reason he's only the second Yankee captain since Thurman Munson died. 10/12/2004 8:54:47 PM |

heart and soul is a bunch of crap in my book in baseball, thats quanitative, hall of famers are voted on stats last time i looked, jeter is just overrated, good but overrated, baseball is more of an individual sport 10/12/2004 8:56:51 PM |
NCSUStud83 Veteran 180 Posts user info edit post |
oh and i meant McCarver is the one i detest, Buck isnt bad but i definitely dont like him, voice is annoying, and Varitek isnt nearly talked up as much as Jeter 10/12/2004 8:57:53 PM |
rallydurham Suspended 11317 Posts user info edit post |
^^ Fine, argue with the fact that he's scored 27 runs in 32 World Series games and is hitting .304 against some of the top pitchers in baseball.
You don't exactly go up against Todd Ritchie or Casey Fossum in the World Series 10/12/2004 9:00:17 PM |
Thecycle23 All American 5913 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah ok...heart and soul don't mean crap...right.
Take Jeter out and see how far the Yanks get. Probably not very, and it's been the same story for the last 8 years. 10/12/2004 9:00:34 PM |
thegoodlife3 All American 39221 Posts user info edit post |
you're absolutely mad if you think jeter is overrated/isnt worth talking about. he is as clutch as it gets and the yankees wouldnt be where there and have been since '96 without him 10/12/2004 9:01:52 PM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
Jeter is the one guy that w/o the Yankees wouldn't be the same IMO (p.s. - he is a shoe-in for the HOF and Munson was a cocksucker)
and Red Sox..come on I know you have faced a Major League pitcher before

Jeter isn't an incredible player or anything, he's just been so consistently good in the playoffs since 1996 that you have to recognize his achievements...
As far as the regular season goes he's a very good shortstop... not better than A-Rod was obviously... 10/12/2004 9:06:51 PM |
