i'm so tall
can't get over me
i'm so low
can't get under me
i must be
all these things
for i just threw out the love of my dreams
he's in my eyes
he is in my ears
he's in my blood
he is in my tears
i must be
made of steel
for i just threw out the love of my dreams

"The song:
It'll need to grow on you. It's like Undone meets Mo Beats meets the Steve Miller Band (think the "Lubby dubby dubby" part of that song that goes "I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker...").

It's good, but it took me a few listens to really like it. It has two solos and each of them use the talk-box thingie that Framton (I think) likes to use. It's really slow and during the verses Rivers sorta talks/raps the lyrics (not in a bad way, so don't freak out). It's a catchy tune that I'm sure most of you will like.

The video
The video opens with Hugh Hefner sitting outside by his pool. He gets a phonecall from Patrick Wilson and they talk about the new album. Hef invites Pat over to play the new song for him and Pat asks if he can bring some friends (all of us fans). Hef says "Sure Pay, whatever you want... just don't bring too many dudes."

Some of us fans arrive in crappy cars (as per Rivers' lyrics) -- I'm in the red Torino, but there's also a red Gremlin, a yellow Beetle, and an El Camino. They filmed us pulling up to the Playboy Mansion and getting greated by Playmates.

Marcos Siega told us that the concept of the video would be the 'ultimate fish out of water' setup since 'weezer and playmates is just absurd.' It's supposed to be a documentary-esque account of the Playmates giving us a tour of the grounds and just hanging out and dancing with us. It was a total blast and I'm sure they got plenty of footage that will make an awesome video!

The album:
Looks like 12 songs and a RED album cover with the band pictures like before. A bandmember disclosed that two possible titles for the album are "Weezer" (self-titled, duh) and "Make Believe."

Yeah, Weezer isn't exactly the greatest live band. Good players, but now Matt Sharp isn't there to act all crazy, and you've got about a 1 in 300 chance of catching Rivers in a mood where he actually gets into it. Usually he just plays a few chords from El Scorcho to hear the crowd cheer, and then starts playing Crab or Simple Pages or some shit.

^^ Yes, but what you aren't including in the equation is that he was extremely sick that evening. It was all he could do to sing. He felt like total dump and considered cancelling the show but went on anyway. Entertainment wise, it wasn't all that, musically it was great.

^ from what i understand that whole tour was kind of bad. i enjoyed seeing weezer as much as the next fan...but i wish rivers would just give us more on the stage.

I stand corrected. Apparently the cover of the album is going to be red, but the official site has just confirmed the title as "Make Believe".

^^well i've always been a big fan of hokusai, et al. so i found the pinkerton cover art to be pretty hot

and just because the cover is gay doesn't mean i won't be buying the album the day it comes out

10 second clip of the single that is supposedly being aired Wednesday. The female echo is kinda weird, but I'm optimistic after hearing this. It's definitely no Maladroit or Green.

^ What the hell? I didn't say that, but I was thinking that. Interesting... Anyway, here's a better quality clip recorded directly from the radio into the computer rather than via microphone:

does anyone know if the new songs on 'make believe' will be longer than the usual 2:30?

Hmm..

Every song on The Blue Album was longer than 2:30
Every song on Pinkerton was longer than 2:30 except "Why Bother?"
Every song on The Green Album was longer than 2:30 except "Photograph" and "Knock-Down-Drag-Out"
Four songs on Maladroit were under 2:30, which is probably a good thing since it means you get to the end of the album faster.

But to answer your question, none of the song lengths are known yet except "Beverly Hills", which is 3:20.

There are three clips up at http://www.albumfive.com taken from the MTV Making the Video for Beverly Hills.

"We Are All On Drugs" - Sounds very Green Album-ish, maybe a little like Hash Pipe. I guess that's why they are using it as the second single.

Unknown (Possibly "The Damage In Your Heart") - Most promising clip from Weezer that I have heard since Pinkerton. Sounds very Cars-ish.

Unknown (Possibly "Peace") - Pretty inaudible, but what little I could hear sounded really good.

Track listing for Make Believe:

1. Beverly Hills
2. Perfect Situation
3. This Is Such A Pity
4. Hold Me
5. Peace
6. We Are All On Drugs
7. The Damage In Your Heart
8. Pardon Me
9. My Best Friend
10. The Other Way
11. Freak Me Out
12. Haunt You Everyday

I actually have two old demos of Hold Me, and it's not a bad song. I imagine it's been reworked a lot over the last couple of years though.

I am listening to a terrible quality recording of the album recorded at a listening party in Berkeley, CA this afternoon. All I can say is, Beverly Hills is in no way representative of the album. The first two songs I've listened to are outstanding.

"The Damage In Your Heart" sounds awesome.

So the album has been out for over a month what did everyone think about it? I thought "Peace" and "We Are All On Drugs" were the best tracks. I'd say the album as a whole deserves a C+

I just saw that Weezer's coming to the House of Blues on a Sunday in Myrtle Beach (July 17th)

Any chance they'll come back to the RBC Center too? MB isn't that bad, and since it's a Sunday I could swing the drive....hmmmm, dunno whether to get tix or wait it out for a Raleigh hopeful

I've already seen em three times, so if they're not coming to raleigh I doubt I'll drive anywhere to see a fairly mediocre performance

I might try to swing Myrtle Beach. Only problem is that I'll be in Atlanta the night before for the Reel Big Fish show at the Roxy.

Well screw this....check this out on the ticket page at ticketmaster:

Quote :
"Please read the following rules for this show BEFORE purchasing tickets! There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to these rules

ALL TICKETS WILL BE WILL CALL ONLY!
Tickets are NON TRANSFERABLE!
*Card Holder MUST attend the show
*The Guest who purchases tickets MUST be present to pick them up at will call night of show.
*Guests CANNOT change the name on the order to another name.
*Guests MUST provide a valid photo ID and the Credit Card they purchased tickets with.
Doors open at 6:00pm and as soon as the person picks up the tickets they will be escorted into the music hall by security.
*No one will be allowed to leave the cue/hold area with his or her tickets.
*The guest's entire party must be present when tickets are handed over by box office.
*NO RE-ENTRY. HOB will have item check set up for misc. items not allowed in the music hall."

Clearly this is a great attempt to prevent scalping, but that is just hardcore. Can you imagine the chaos of like 3-4,000 people trying to get tix from a will-call window and gettin' all emo about wanting to be 1st (since it's all general admission) and close to the stage? No thanks.

AND it's $45 *BEFORE FEES* Blow me Weez.

^ thats ridiculous. 2 or 3 years ago that price would have been do-able for me, but ive lost some interest in seeing weezer since they have failed to produce enough new songs that i would like to see in concert, while im sure they will probably play the same ones ive seen them play the past 3-4 times ive seen them.

^ lucky. 96-97 would have made me 12-13 years old at the time. i loved pinkerton the first time i listened to it, but i didnt start going to concerts until i was 14 or 15...first time i saw weezer was during their comeback, and i flew to az to see them on the warped tour in phoenix. everyone at the warped tour was so pumped to see weezer, ive never seen as big of a crowd with as much anticipation.
