I have had the Space Trilogy for years, which is supposed to be excellent, but I have never gotten around to reading it.
^I would have trouble picking a favorite. I like the Magician's Nephew, because it provides all the background and is first chronologically. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was also the heat. They sailed to the end of the world. Then of course, the Last Battle brought it all back together. A tough choice, indeed.

Wouldn't mind if they spent another month or so on the CGI lion, or maybe get a real lion and just make minimal CGI tweaks here and there to get it to perform the way you want it to.

the reviews that came out from the screening said the CGI was amazing. So, apparently they did more work to clean things up. 9/20/2005 11:24:14 AM |

I always take "the CGI was amazing" with a grain of salt. Why? Because they did in fact notice that it was CGI in the first place. Plus they are in full hype mode right now. You won't hear a "CGI was terrible" until after opening weekend. 9/20/2005 1:08:32 PM |

It's still months away, and they haven't even released the full trailer yet. Full hype already? 9/20/2005 1:11:54 PM |
jbtilley All American 12797 Posts user info edit post |
Well not full hype. There will be a time when you can't watch tv for more than 5 minutes without seeing LW&W reference - I imagine that is the hype peak.
And yes, if they have already shown the screener and allowed the people that watched it to make their reviews public - the hype machine has already started. 9/20/2005 1:33:58 PM |

So are they just starting out with the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe then? That was the first book written in the series but Lewis went back and wrote a prolouge which he intended to be read first. Maybe they'll incorporate that into this movie somehow. 9/20/2005 6:25:02 PM |

^^There are seven, n00b!
^Yeah, The Magician's Nephew is the first chronologically (in terms of the plot). I read them in that order, and I think that's by far the best way to go. For whatever reason, LWW is the most popular in the series, even though I think it's the least entertaining. 9/20/2005 6:48:54 PM |

well, since the first movie that came out about "the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe" was british, might as well keep the same 'theme' going.10/15/2005 4:17:16 PM |

I'm resurrecting this thread because I just saw a commercial for it.
I've gotta make an effort to read the book again before the movie comes out. I'm worried how faithful to the book it'll be.

I still haven't read the Great Divorce (only one I can think of that I haven't). Just from what I've heard about it, it seems the most different of his nonfiction works (well, maybe that and A Grief Observed).
Anyway, my favorite is probably Miracles.11/16/2005 12:31:47 AM |

Quote : | "CLIVE STAPLES LEWIS, known as Jack to his friends, was born in 1898. Lewis and his good friend J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, were part of the Inklings, an informal writers' club that met at a local pub to discuss story ideas. Lewis's fascination with fairy tales, myths and ancient legends, coupled with inspiration drawn from his childhood, led him to write THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, one of the best-loved books of all time. Six further books followed to become the immensely popular Chronicles of Narnia. The final title in the series, THE LAST BATTLE, was awarded the Carnegie Medal, one of the highest marks of excellence in children's literature." |

i've never read the book, so i didnt really know what to expect. it was good though. i'm guessing fans of the book will enjoy it. it was kinda slow, especially at the beginning, and it felt really long, but it was still enjoyable. i dont get why santa was in it, but i guess i'd have to read the book to understand that one. 12/7/2005 3:16:46 PM |

I've got all three of those BBC Movies. I haven't seen them in forever, but suffice it to say that the budget is nowhere near up to par. The BBC one is longer, though at 171 minutes compared to 140 for the new one. Not sure what cuts that might correlate to. 12/7/2005 10:22:43 PM |

The movie only covered "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe", correct? I've finished the first two books and I'm still worried that they'll throw something from some of the latter books in the movie. 12/8/2005 11:38:28 PM |

Yeah, it's just TLTW&TW
I definitely need to get my rear in gear and read the books again.
And XCchik, we definitely watched a few of them back in school. Of course nowadays, that probably wouldn't fly.
I was reading a movie review (in the Village Voice, no less) for this, and the reviewer actually opined that they thought CS Lewis was a better storyteller than Tolkien. Which I found rather fascinating. I thought of Tolkien as being the better storyteller. But Lewis' most important works, IMCO, were his aforementioned theological works. 12/9/2005 12:40:08 AM |
