"IGN: What would you say is your favorite weapon from the game translated into the movie?

HOLLENSHEAD: Well, this probably is what everybody is expecting, but that doesn't make it any less true. It's absolutely the BFG. When we saw the gun on the set, taking a look at it, was like, "Oh, this is cool," because it's basically built the same way as the BFG is from Doom III. The effects on the BFG blast are all CG, so you can't see what it's like when they're actually filming it, so you just kinda gotta put your imagination to it. And…the first [time] we got to see Dwayne actually fire it, and you know, he's like, "Holy sh*t, this is the BFG," and we're like, "Holy sh*t that's the BFG!"

"

Quote :
"IGN: Can you forsee any Quake or Wolfenstein movies to be made in the future?

HOLLENSHEAD: Well, I hope so. Quake is a bit more schizophrenic than the Doom or Wolfenstein properties, just because the story for Quake II and Quake IV are in the same universe, but Quake and Quake III are different from the other two. I do think that the Quake II universe would make excellent grounds for a film. With Wolfenstein, that's a project that we've actually had in development. We've been working with some writers and those sorts of things. It's obviously not as far along as the Doom movie was when it took off after we had the E3 showing in 2002, but I think as we go forward with a lot of those franchises, I mean… you haven't seen the last Wolfenstein game. I don't want to talk too much about when or what the next one's going to be, it's still very much in the drawing board phases, but I think as… my hope is, it's not too dissimilar from Doom III and the Doom movie, where we kinda had the game going on, and the movie really caught fire. So we'll have the same thing with Wolf as well."

Does anyone think this is going to suck worse than the last video game they made into a movie...The second Mortal Kombat movie. God damn that was the worst piece of trash I ever saw in my life. I wanted to kick the dude that played Raiden in the balls...

Next they will be making a Rayman movie or some crap like that...

Didn't David Caradine play Raiden in the first one? He rocked, I thought. But then again David Caradine's the fuckin' man anyway, so of course it comes as no surprise.

good god no

Christopher Lambert played Raiden in the first one.

one of the main reasons the film was good. Raiden was a fag in the second one.

This movie will be a failure if it doesn't hold up to the DOOM legacy. Which is fucked up monsters, cool weapons, freaky environments, really scary, and one man vs. the horde of demons (mutants in this case, strike one).

If most of the commando team doesn't die then

trailer http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/doom/large.html

i think they changed shit up, its now on "Olduvai, Mars" a moon i assume.

and the trailer is seriously trying to make you think your playing a game in first person.

still hella gay.

apparently there was a sneak preview of this movie earlier this week, and it opens in theaters tomorrow (friday)...

anyways, i heard on g105 this morning that it was a terrible, terrible excuse for a movie, and that this movie should finally make america realize how terrible the Rock really is at acting.

anyone see the sneak preview this week?

Really. Why do people insist on calling him The Rock? Isn't his name Dwayne Johnson or something? "The Rock" is just his persona on WWE, not his legal name.

because anyone who knows who he is obviously has seen wrestling, not because of his stellar acting. i mean you don't see people going around calling hulk hogan as terry bollea do you?

i call him the rock cause i dont know his real name. if he makes a name for himself in acting and get to the point that i could tell you off the top of my head that his real name is dwayne johnson, then i will.

I might see Doom just because it will be first-person shooterish. The movie is pretty much guarenteed to be bad though. If you've ever seen The Scorpion King, you know why.

Same with tons of actors, artists and other various celebrities.

50 Cent - Curtis Jackson Brown
Elvis Costello - Declan Patrick Aloysius McManus
John Denver - Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr.
Kirk Douglas - Issur Danielovitch Demsky
Redd Foxx - John Elroy Sanford

etc. etc.

Yeah, I had the choice last night of crashing on the couch with the most beautiful girl in the world and watching movies on my HDTV, and paying 5.50 to see doom with some of my friends....

It was a tough decision...

i saw that shit last night.

it's hillarious.

they left it open for a sequel.

They didn't have enough of the interactive environment for me (like Doom3 PDA and shit).

This is filled with cheap scares and all that, just what you would expect.

It's a long movie, prepared for dull scenes in some spots.

The writing is terrible and the sets were rather, hell they were REALLY cheap looking. Dwayne Johnson is a great actor (i.e. Be Cool), but when you have shit for subject matter, it makes it kinda of difficult to portray.

I did like the bond girl as the scientist. She's great eye candy. Her acting was better in the bond movie.

I'd wait until it came out at the $1.50 or rent it.

SPOILERS!!! they are the strike out parts.

Reaper, who looks more like a mix between Brad Pitt and Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker), is the actual main character of the movie.

I thought Sarge was gonna be the good guy, but he ends up being taken, ala Resident Evil, and turned to the dark side. The fight scene was interesting.

The end of the movie is where it starts to get good. Where you get the gratuitious violence and gore that you've been expecting. Reaper gets the 24th chromosome, which turns him into a super trooper and it's also when they jump into FPS mode (you see Reaper start fucking some mutants up and you hear the trademark reload sound).

For just a straight action/gore movie it's pretty good. Had some funny moments, had some good action, and I thought the first-person stuff was pretty cool.

Though I do have a few strikes. There was 0 character development. I mean it just jumps right into the action instead of taking some time to introduce the characters and what-not. It felt kinda rushed, wish they would have taken the time and played it a bit slower and developed the characters and maybe taken some of the useless parts out.

The acting wasn't bad, because the writing was pretty crappy. People are calling out Rocky as a bad actor, but I thought he did a pretty good job with what he had to work with.

I think they could have made this movie MUCH better, but they didn't do that bad of a job with it.

I never played the game, but the movie rocked.

There is a good bit of suspence in the film as it takes a while to really figure out what is going on.

Just saw it. I had low hopes but they weren't low enough. The movie was garbage. Until the last 5 minutes, there was very little fighting. The movie also suffers greatly from what I call "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! Syndrome". You know, where things don't make sense and so they throw in a hastily created tidbit and you say "Of course, of course."

Mostly bad directing, but also some terrible acting. The one asshole marine with the long hair was possibly the worse actor since the guy who played Anakin. Bah, the only thing enjoyable about the movie is the FPS scene. But even it made me laugh a bit.

PS: Not nearly enough cheap scares. Really, not much unexpected happened.

I loved the suicidal headbanging zombie, though. It was so stupid the entire theatre broke out laughing.

My expectations were just about right. I wanted a dumb movie that would at least have some random violence, and that's what I got.

I thought it was great. They carried over the environment from Doom 3 very, very well. As a movie adapation soley from Doom 3, it was extremly good.

I was majorly disappointed that there were no demons from hell. The story in the game was great, but the story in the movie wasn't too bad either.

Bottom line: I was entertained. The FPS scene made me giddy.
