Hahahah!! Are you talking about the same movie here? Saw is one of those movies that want you to watch really closely to see if you can figure out what is going in.

You can enjoy anything if you turn off your brain. It's unfortunate that entertainment companies are successfully encouraging people to do that.

I didn't hate this movie, but I didn't really like it (or, on the list of movies I hate, this is low on the list). If it were on TV, I would watch it, but I wouldn't pay to rent it (which I didn't cuz I borrowed it from a friend). They basically straight out lie to you, then say "ha ha, we lied" at the end. It's like if I had a gun and said I wasn't going to shoot you, then shoot you. That's not a surprise, it's lying.

they were lucky to cast elwes & danny glover but the co-writer of saw's script played adam in the movie. it was a low budget, economically creative film THAT COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE FROM ITS ACTORS.

i didn't watch saw for anyone's performance.

say what? how hard did you have to pay attention to figure out the plot of this movie? this isn't some governmental conspiracy mystery denzel washington flick...it's a thriller, nothing more. didn't require much mental processing.

Quote :

you act like people don't know the difference. i mean yeah, some people out there dont have the mental capacity or attention span to sit through a more "detailed" movie, but most people have a preference. think of it like music...sometimes i want to crank the volume, jump around and bang my head, so i'll throw on some slayer. sometimes i want a bit more depth, development, and dynamics, so i'll put on some opeth. there's a difference and it's based on mood and personal preference at the time.

just because i enjoyed a mindless thriller doesn't mean that i've been seduced by pop media to "turn off my brain." this also doesnt mean i don't immensely enjoy more intellectual movies.. you people need get off your high horses and take a movie for what it's worth

I goto a movie to watch the movie, not test my ability to pick shit apart. I do enough thinking as it is.

her character wasn't unresolved

she passed her "test", "learned" her lesson, and she's alive. that's all the resolution to her character based on the bounds of the dude's game and as far as the movie is concerned

even if she hadn't passed her test, she would be dead and would still have resolution

these are the questions i had after seeing the movie that i posted in a thread a while back:

the dude said the guy in the room with the jaw breaker girl was dead, but he wasn't

and how'd the photograph of cary elwes' window get in the bunch? danny glover took that picture

and how'd the dude survive the a shotgun blast to the back?

and how did cary elwes wife know about adam?

and why didn't cary elwes check the closet?

and why didn't cary elwes fire the creepy orderly guy for being creepy?

and why didn't cary elwes get the cell phone at the end before he left the room?

and why did he do what he had to do before 6 after 6? time was already up, there was no point in doing that shit

and why didn't they shoot the dude when they found his hideout?

I just saw it for the first time tonight. Listening to the audio commentary now. Shot in 18 days. Not bad at all. Interesting to see what they can do with money this time. The trailer was totally misleading though, at least to me.

I'll make an attempt:

Quote :
"the dude said the guy in the room with the jaw breaker girl was dead, but he wasn't"

I saw this as a complete mind-fvck. It was VERY EASY to escape if she just hadta cut up a dead man, he's already dead! She she's like "word I'm out" until he's alive. Now it's complicated. Fit w/ the plan.

Quote :
"and how'd the dude survive the a shotgun blast to the back?"

I predicted armor/vest of some sort as soon as it happened.

Quote :
"and how did cary elwes wife know about adam?"

The killer TOLD HER to tell Cary that Adam was a liar so Cary would start flippin' out.

Quote :
"and why didn't cary elwes check the closet?"

What closet?

Quote :
"and why didn't cary elwes fire the creepy orderly guy for being creepy?"

If you think one lousy doctor on staff has "firing powers", you're most likely wrong.

Quote :
"and why didn't cary elwes get the cell phone at the end before he left the room"

He was legless and not thinking perfectly clear, ya know? What you SHOULD be asking is why didn't he arrange some sort of shirt-tied-reacher to GET the phone (like he did that tape player) instead of cutting his leg to get the phone. I'll admit, that part pissed me off, but I attribute it to manic-ness and he just gave in and thought "to win, I must do what he says".

Quote :
"and why did he do what he had to do before 6 after 6? time was already up, there was no point in doing that shit"

Agreed, but again, his family was on the line. At this point he just hoped he could save them regardless of the game.

Quote :
"and why didn't they shoot the dude when they found his hideout?"

Chines fella wanted to...of course the cop wanted him alive b/c he was a freakazoid obsessed with his secret identity.

It could go on for hours...you could also ask "why the heck didn't the orderly just go to the Poison Control Center?" It wasn't like John was gonna hop off the floor and interupt the orderly from going there. Bottom line was the MOVIE was entertaining, IMO.

As I understood it, they couldn't dial out. They could only receive calls. It would be pointless to take the cellphone.

"Gee, I really hope the cops call this number on a whim."

actually, the guy was minutes away from death due to the lethal opiate injection jigsaw had given him.

They're now in trouble for their Teaser Poster with the severed fingers and releasing an 'R' rated trailer that hadn't been approved yet.

i enjoyed the first, i'll go see the second. Of course it didn't have award winning acting and was a little stretched. But thats what makes movies like this so good. You have to stretch your imagination and just enjoy it.

All the people that say it was crappy and had too many plotholes... i know for a fact you couldn't write, direct, and/or film something as clever as Saw no matter how much time you had.

amen. there are NO plotholes if you simply let yourself enjoy a damned movie for once w/o questioning every non-important detail. if you insist though, send them away to imdb.com for their "goofs" so you can feel special.

how many indie horror flicks can you note having stellar acting performances??!!

normally, i'm highly critical about a movie's cast / acting, but i knew w/in the first 10 minutes of watching Saw, that the last thing on my mind was going to be the acting. i rather ignore that meaningless issue & let myself enjoy a great film.

trust me i love my indie horror films. both the ones that try and be horror and the ones that are goofing on themselves at the same time and this one just sucked to me.

on a side note: if you want a great horror film that tries to be good and ends up being a laughing good time pick up Monster Man

see, i rarely watch horror movies - psychological horror films are more my liking so i rarely see anything "gorey" even. Saw, se7en, & the silence of the lambs are probably my top 3 in this psycho-thriller sub-genre.

if i were really into the horror genre, i might have a different opinion about Saw, but who knows......

**This might be sort of a spoiler**

I see this as kinda shitty for IMDb to use this as its plot outline for the movie. Seems like it is giving a little too much away.

We are really getting close to a finished movie. As all of you know, the edit is done, the sound effect are put in, and the music is now being mixed...

Next week we really dig into the DI. The DI is where we dial the final look and colors into the film.

On Tuesday of this week, I shot a music video for Mudvayne who is releasing the single for SAW II. It was great to get back behind the camera.

Today the trailer premieres. So be sure to check that out!!!

More tomorrow"
