if your gonna buy a cheap DD, chances are... your not gonna buy new replacement stuff from a dealership unless you really have to. Besides, if you get a cheap honda and drive it around and still works, you could prolly sell it for the same price you bought it at.

personally, i just can't stand a boring vehicle. i would get absolutely no enjoyment out of driving a saturn, honda, etc. on a regular basis. driving would become a chore rather than a pleasure. of course a DD is supposed to be reliable, efficient, etc. but why not have something entertaining also if you can?

huh? he wouldn't be turboing a dsm... i'm not advocating going out and buying a na car and tossing a turbo on it for a dd. as for tinkering, i gave up on the possibilty of not doing that a long time ago. everything mechanical my hands just i have the uncontrolable urge to mess with. the key is to learn/know where the vehicle's limits of messing around while still maintaining reliability is.

^'93 SE. Only one those particular alloys were available on. And the leather on the SE's didn't hold up well, but some of them did have cloth.

If it aint broke, dont fix it. You don't tinker on a DD, thats the whole friggin point.

"i assure you i know more about these cars than you. saturns are shit compared to hondas. i dont care how good of a car it has been for you, or the other guy up there, the point is its a fucking hippie car designed to put around town all its life and thats all it is good at. i gaurantee that the way i would have to drive the saturn it wouldnt last anytime at all, and the honda would take it and keep right on going..."

Where did I say any different?

It's hardly a hippy car. A prius is a hippy car, a saturn is just a cheap ass reliable car for people who want transportation.

How do you HAVE to drive a car? Because I drive the everliving shit out of this thing. It definitely has no power, but you know what? WHO CARES. It gets me from A to B cheaply and reliably. I redline the hell out of it, engine break, and have constantly driven it on the edge of what it can do.

Saturns ARE reliable cars.

From what you posted, you are ignoring it not because it wouldn't fulfill your needs as a DD, but because you REALLY DONT WANT A DD.

And based on what you have posted about your traffic violations, speeding history, job difficulties, etc, it might not be such a bad idea to get a car that you cant be a speed demon in. Horror of horrors.

Noen, moonman, sarijoul...Drop it. His opinion isn't going to change and frankly who gives a shit. HE asked for opinions you gave it....he bashed it.... what the fuck ever. I like my Saturn, I think it is the best dd anyone could ask for, but optmusprimer is too Kool for one, so that's great, it's his money. Plus looking at a ton of these threads he's started (ie I was looking at these trucks tonight...) and such and so forth, he's probably not really looking anyway, he just wanted some attention....or not, don't really care one way or another.

On a side note, you saturn guys, have you noticed how much ground clearance those things have? I'm from Asheville where my house is a mile up some switch-back trail and I have yet to bottom out, but I have bottomed out in anything else that I've attempted to get up there (including 2001 626, 2003 prelude, 98 escort, 2002 altima, 96 integra, 91 integra, 89 voyager, 89 Cutlass, 89 civic hatch, 93 marquis, and 89 mercedes of some sort) I jump the fucking thing off those cross walks on dan allen. anyway...goodluck finding your kool new "dd" project optmus.

^yeah, i think because of the ground clearance it feels like it "sways" when you are on the highway and the wind is blowing. My wife's escort feels alot more solid that way.

btw... i agree with the saturn guys.. best bang for your buck for a DD. i spent 2500 on my 97 SL1 and I have put about 25K miles on it and havent had any problems so far besides having to replace the alternator (it has 150K miles).

That's because the suspension is pretty crappy. The ride height is jacked up so when you pack it full with 4 people and cargo, it will still have some give in the suspension.

I've bottomed the fuck out of my Saturn innumerable times, though I'm usually carrying 1000 pounds or more of shit in it.

^^^^ & ^^ um..ok? it wasn't mine. I wouldn't waste money on that shit. In fact none of those on that list ever were mine. when people come to visit...they make me drive it up, so they can blame any damage on me.

The saturn is my first "car"
I've had two 85' xjs a 75' cj a 89' F250

aw fuck..good call, I just called him..it was a 2001. Sorry, I know shit about hondas. Poor car ended up totaled in a ditch after a dog crossed his path. He said since his dad is an insurance adjuster, he was able to track where the car went after insurance got it. It actually ended up in Cuba.

Just go buy a cheap car. They're all going to look fucking ugly but if you're smart about it you'll easily be able to pick up something reliable and efficient.

In fact

Why make a thread about this? Are you so lazy that you can't go open the classifieds section of your newspaper and read?

People here get their information off of google, why don't you do the same?

i'm pretty sure it's easier to get insured on a bike (liability) than it is a car. cheaper too. you might kill yourself easier, but you're alot less likely to really tear anything/anyone else up too bad.
