The alternates will rotate, though, since the NHL prohibits more than two alternate captains on a dress roster unless the captain himself is not playing.

Tonight, 7 PM, Canes vs. Capitals in the RBC

Due to a back strain suffered in practice by Martin Gerber, CAM WARD WILL START IN GOAL!

Also, every NHL preseason game WILL feature a shootout at the end, even if the game is not tied at the end of regulation/OT.

fortunately the powerplay can't get any worse than it was in 03-04

You're damn right it can't, with Tverdovsky in the back.

So is the shootout going to count for anything if it's not tied? Or just a way to show us how it's going to look. I'm not a big fan shootouts to begin with, but I don't think i'd enjoy one just for shits and giggles

There will be a shootout, whether the game is tied 2-2 at the end of OT or ends 7-3 at the end of regulation.

As I posted on a goalie board:

Quote :
"I'm still on the fence about shootouts.

Is it a gimmick? Yes.

Does it cheapen the unique joy of a penalty shot? Yes.

Does it suck some satisfaction out of what would otherwise be a hard-fought tie? Surely.

Will it be exciting? You bet your ass it will be."

whats the point of having a shootout after a game if its already decided?

Only occuring during the pre-season, folks (as said above)...we'll only see it during the regular season if the game is tied after OT.

Tickets start at 10 AM, I am told. However, since parking is free, you can snag the tickets, leave, and then come for the game at 3.

Hockey is by far the most entertaining sport to watch in person.

I swear, if he wears that damned mirrored visor when the season starts, he's going to have a concussion by the end of the first weekend.

Yes, but at the WJCs/WCs he was wearing a *mirrored* visor that is spear-worthy. There's a dude in one of the Cary/Garner leagues that wears one, and I feel like tripping him every time he skates by.

^ Truth. Also, what's up with the inconsistency everywhere? "Carolina goal," "Hurricanes goal," "Carolina power play goal," etc. Sounds like they need to re-audition.

Also, what's up with him only reading the names half the time?

Nothing's up, he just didn't dress. Neither did Gerber, Adams, Whitney, A. Ward, Kaberle, Brendl, etc.

people, you need to come see some hockey this year. the team looks sharp and students can get in for 7 bucks!!! that's nothing. the crowd tonight was loud, but there were many, many empty seats. official attendance was 12k, but it was nowhere near that. so come on out and support the team, you wont be disappointed

^^^Students cannot get in for $7.

Some guys in front of me last night wanted to use the student ID discount on the upper level tickets that formerly cost $12. Well, 102.9 now has all the $12 priced at $10.29 as a promotional deal sort of thing. The student discount cannot be used on those seats. The cheapest seats the $5 student discount can be used on are the $21 seats and the cheapest seats the $20 discount can be used on are the $52 seats. Student discounts are good the day of the game only.

I would have much rather them left the tickets at $12 and given the student discount, or at least let students buy tickets in the $10.29 sections for $7.

Yes, they will-

"The Y102.9 FM $10.29 ticket - More than 1700 seats available for every regular season game".

The box office has huge signs up behind the tellers stating that all $12 tickets are now $10.29.

http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/custom/rad61DD6.asp

They state that eight upper level sections every game are now $10.29 - and there are exactly eight upper goal zone ($12) sections.

^^ Word. Last I heard, it wasn't all games (it was a certain night of the week or something, I don't remember). I never go to the box office, so I haven't seen the signs.

Before they came up with this one, there is a Harris Teeter deal that only works Monday through Thursday or something like that...they seem to be very disorganized this year. All I needed to know Friday AM was when tickets for November games went on sale (because one minute longer without my Canes-Rangers tickets in my hand was killing me). The website totally didn't have any info. I called once and the guy said, 6 PM today and hung up on me. A friend also called and was told they went on sale on line on Saturday and then at the box office the next time the box office was scheduled to open. I called again to get it cleared up and they told me I could by them on Friday night provided I bought a ticket for Friday night's game (which did in fact work). When I asked her when they would go on sale without buying a ticket for a preseason game, the lady went into a schpiel about how they were just doing the hurricane relief thing (which I thought was pretty cool so didn't mind going and buying the ticket)...but it was as if she didn't know the answer at all.

But now I have my Canes-Rangers tickets in hand and am a happy happy girl.

The reason they changed the College Rush promotion is because of a small-yet-vocal group of STHs that whined and pissed and cried that their tickets (for which they payd $texas) were being "devalued" by having a bunch of college students be able to walk up and plonk down $20 to sit next to them. Incredibly stupid and juvenile, IMO--but what can you do?

How whiny!

It doesn't matter if you have season ticket holders paying $texas, having a half-empty lower bowl looks really bad and just gives steam to the movement to yank the teams out of the South.

Lots of big season premieres on TV last night so wasn't expecting much.

On a brighter note, Sidney Crosby was welcomed to the NHL last night...
