When I made the topic the death count was at around 300...it obviously grows daily

I guess none of you still realize that news sources called Katrina "the worst natural disaster to ever hit this country"...but you see its not

the list i found had everything from mine explosions, to airplane crashes, to floods, to volcanos, bridge collapses, etc...

and yes, 9/11

i mean it may be true, but you haven't presented any evidence to support it and i cant find any

that sounds very interesting. think i'll have to go check that book out at the library.

as far as how deadly and costly disasters are, they need to sometimes be put into perspective of the era when they occurred. there are obviously more people living in the US now than say 100 yrs ago, so of course most large disasters will have increasing death rates, even with superior technology. dumb people will still be dumb as well.

as far as new orleans, a city below water level on the gulf coast, well come on it was a matter of time before this happened.

more people does NOT equal higher death rates

^ He means from disasters, because of the relative increase in population density over the affected area(s) of the disaster.

Not increased death rates in general.

it seemed like the worst ones happened a long time ago. these were industrial accidents (pre safety requirements) and natural disasters (no prediction)

of course this was just something i noticed, i didnt really look at it long enough to know for sure it was true

listen to this stupid liberal.

Quote :

"This is the largest disaster in the history of the United States, over an area twice the size of Europe," Stevens said. ""

funny thing is all those other disasters were in the early 1900s when hurricanes just showed up out of the blue and communication wasnt as good. most people who died in those had no clue it was coming. today we have bettter construction and everything so almost nobody should die. if the exact same gavelston hurricane came today less than 20 people would die.
