Obviously you've never been on a dealer transport with a new car.

If you think because it's labeled "new" on the lot, it doesn't have any "wear and tear" you are kidding yourself. That car's 100-300 miles are all from test drives and transport, and those miles are probably the hardest driven that the car will ever have.

If you want a new car, fine. But dear god, wake up and realize that a car isn't a fucking of paper. You are NEVER going to get an untouched vehicle in your lifetime, and that "new car smell" is pumped in with off the shelf cleaner.

if u really want a brand new car, u gotta order it like i did, mine had 11 miles on it when i got it. and that was all loading, unloading and like a couple mile road test just to make sure everything worked. I babied my car for the first 1,000+ miles, thats very crucial. Even tho all engines today are pre-broken in, its not true, you should actually change your oil after about the first 500 miles, to get the metal shaving and other crap out of your engine. I did, and my car runs wonderful, unlike alot of the other spec-v's that were abused and blew engines and transmissions.

yeah those 300 miles of test drives are just as bad as the 12k-20k miles the owner puts on in the first year

i mean i dont recomend buying a new car either... but c'mon man, thats just stupid logic

Ya'll remember two years ago when half the responses would have been like "I'd get a MR2 Turbo with $14k in mods."

Ha ha.

Last engine I rebuilt saw redline w/in 15 minutes of it's first start up, and made 70% more torque than stock before it had 50 miles on it. Has 70k more miles now, last I checked with less than 1% leakdown (which makes it better than factory spec for a freshly broken in, new engine). There are many theories of how to properly break in an engine. Also, it's arguable that you will have any significant shavings in the oil. Besides, you do have a filter...

I'm selling my Tsx because I'm going back to school and having to carry collision right now is really expensive from past speeding tickets. I've really been trying to find a way to keep it, trust me.

After spending about 4 weeks looking I finally decided upon trying to scion i might buy one. Tried it and was not impressed. It's got INSANELY nice features but the power just isn't there like they claim. 170hp might be true but the pickup isn't the same.

Decided to save up for a really nice car but still wanted to upgrade a bit. Wound up finding a 1997 celica GT in insanely good shape. Had some damage that was repaired, no framework stuff, and the place is giving me a lifetime warranty on the paint and all repairs done. I wasn't kinda suprised at that but he does that with all the cars he sells.

When i walked into his warehouse I saw 2 porshe 911's, both turbos, 1 rx-7 being modded. it had dual exhaust, very nice. Not riced or anything. There was a couple other cars there too that I wasn't sure what they were but man they looked nice.

I'll post pics when I get it but I think it was a good deal.

1997 Toyota Celica GT (60,000 miles)
Sun roof/moonroof/ with agressive wind breaker. (smaller more sleek).
Black exterior (only thing I had against it since black is hard to keep looking nice)
Interior Black Leather (very nice too. Was suprised at it's quality. thick strong stuff. Very comfortable).
Spoiler of course
Tinted Windows
Alarm from factory
Alloy Wheels, pirelle (sp?) racing tires.

The width of the rims and tires is wider. The engine was well kept and not steamed or anything obvious. The guy was even saying that he's be happy to have any mechanic I want takea look at it when one of his lifts is free (monday).

We'll see. It drove incredible. Much more powerful than my current car. (1994 celica ST). Plus there's a lot mods out there. I think I just wanted a nice car that was fun to drive as well as a project car that I could do things do. Not necessarily rice mods but ya know.

This gives me time to rethink what I want. I took a lot of what people said in here to heart. Thanks for the comments, insults etc. Helped me make a good decision.

WOW. it has racing tires? damn it even has a agressive wind breaker!!!!!!!!

Get real, you were never gonna buy a 20k car, let alone a new car. All this talk and you go out and buy a 97 celica.

Please tell me this isn't an automatic. If it is, do not waste your time or money upgrading it.

Dude, if you want performance, you need a manual transmission. Having the auto tranny in any of the cars you were considering is usually going to add about a second to the 0-60 time. That is a lot dude, a whole lot.

It would probably take thousands of dollars of "upgrades" to make your auto celica as fast as a stock manual one. And even then, it will be slow as shit. Because the stock manual GT is slow.

It's an auto because manuals are a pain in the ass to use every day all the time. It's just not for me.

Yes I was going to purchase a new car. I think the fact that the guy tried to pull some shady shit at the mazda dealership and the simpe fact i couldn't even find a scion to test drive to make sure it's what i wanted turned me off of buying a new car.

I looked around for used celicas and saw this 1997 one for $8300 (which is not what i paid). Checked it out, test drove it loved it. Saw all the work done for replacements. Checked his business out etc... and decided to make him an offer. He took it and I'll be driving that.

So instead of having a $400/month car payment I'll have a $200 (used car loans are shorter so higher payment) which will give me more time to save up money so that I can have more options when I do buy a new car.

The fact still remains i want a new car. I was able to test drive a scion this morning and it was rocking. Fun car. It does lack pickup in some areas but it was still a fun car. 170hp.

You don't have to agree with my decision and i really don't care. I got a newer car with 100,000 less miles with a lot of new parts on it. New tires, new windshield. The guy pimped the car up then decided to sell. Everything works, everything looks like new. That part fits what i wanted aesthetically.

Though it does have 140hp that's a nice boost from what I'm using now. Remember read my original post and what i wanted. This matches most of that except for being new.

Btw the newer celicas are a shitty ride in my opinion. Not very comfortable, little leg room, and head space is an issue to for someone as tall as me. And they have the same horsepower as the car i bought.

You can rag on me all you want but my new car looks nice, it's sleek, drives well, comfortable, plenty of room, lots of storage space and it's fast. Fast enough for me so far.

By saving up money now... hell i could probably afford and evo if I wanted in about a year. We'll see though. Might like to just stick to racing on the computer.
