If Tarantini wore red shoes and yelled alot and argued with the press, I would go 9/28/2005 12:40:38 PM |

Tarantini is about 10 times more entertaining than amato. Heck, I would probably go to games on campus just to see the Tarantini show. The thing about college soccer here in the states is that its just not that pretty to watch in my opinion. Pace is way too fast and alot of the goals end up being just clusterfucks in the box with the ball squirting in somehow or one on ones with the keeper. I have been to countless college games and unless there is a team I care about i.e. State. Its just not that entertaining to me. Now give me some Premier league or International soccer (upper tier teams) regularly on the TV and I would never leave the couch. 9/28/2005 1:20:34 PM |

I used to live in a back room at Lee. In the spring, they'd start practice, and we'd have the windows open. You could always hear Tarntini yelling.

Yeah, Tarantini is at best unintelligible at times. My fave is just hearing him yell "HEY!!! HEEYY!!!!! HEY!!!!!" then go sit down on his folding chair at the end of the bench and shake his head.
As for what's going on behind the track, pehraps that is the new soccer field. I'd been told by folks in athletics they were going to expand the track so they could get the field inside the track and leave everything else in place. Again, that's just hearsay. I've also been told that the land below the track, outside the fence, actually belonged to the Raleigh Parks & Rec and that's one of the reasons we never used it for much more than football as that was fairly non-damaging. More hearsay.
Not so sure about a soccer player yelling at the SWPC. I could see that being the case, there are a lot who did that. I've not seen that so much lately, and SWPC now requires that you stay for the full game, not just the first half. It was really bad when it was show up for a half, and you'd be considered there. So the first half, the place was pretty packed, 2nd half it was a ghost town.
I think T is more entertaining than Amato. Amato (did anyone see his interview in the N&O today?!!?? holy mess) yells at the refs, but Tarantini yells at the refs... opposing coaches... opposing players... it's great. That, and the fans are so close to the field (at least at Method Rd.) you can hear the trash talking between players. After a foul was called on a UMD player during the game Sunday (names left out to protect the guilty) the UMD player was whining about the way the State player was attacking him... "Your f*cking elbow... watch your f*cking elbow sh*t head!!" to which the State player replied (hehe) "Get off the f*cking ground and play the game... prick" HA! It killed me.
I personally tried soccer as a kid, but due to my intense fear of being kicked in the jewels, a general fear of failure (and the ball), and that I was a fat ass little kid who couldn't run, I never became the phenom I once dreamed of being. Still the game is fun to watch for me, not something I can really watch on TV... but it's fun enough in person. The scenery can be good at times, and if nothing else the one or two people who care are entertaining enough as they yell at the players. Ahh... If only I was going to make it tonight.

The track is where the soccer field will be. Behind that is where the softball complex will be. 9/28/2005 4:14:39 PM |

Ah-HAH! There you go, softball complex. I've never played there, the only field I played on as a kid was on a decided slope... that was fun. :-P It is amazing to go to a nice field and see the difference. It's kinda crazy. 9/28/2005 5:31:22 PM |

This is true. You don't get the same skills here that you do with teams like Brazil or maybe even Italy, nor the aggression that you see in England.

That would be great for him and the program. I just think well known teams have better players so I dont see him winning it. You never know though, he could win it and that would be awsome and it wouldnt be the first time i was wrong talking about sports. 10/11/2005 3:57:56 PM |

as far as stats go he would be the pick right now in my opinion...there are a few guys from lesser known teams who have more points...but if all continues to go well i think it will be between king, garey from maryland, and mckenzie from akron 10/11/2005 4:16:28 PM |

Oh, shit...maybe not. The 2006 Galaxy shirt is Adidas (as per league regulations) and looks like shit. 1/20/2006 6:35:11 PM |
