Uhh i thought it was anything bigger than 4" you need a SYE w/ CV... i know that's what is reccommended... and regearing i don't think has anything to do with lifting... it's for bigger tires, and from the sound of it, he doesn't have near enough of the green stuff to mess with that.9/28/2005 10:49:37 PM |

it is "recommended" but i figured he was trying to save as much of the "green stuff" as possible. you can pull 6 inches w/ a t-case drop kit and be fine w/ shims on ur rear axle.
as for the gears and lifting. generally when you go 6 inches you'll be running bigger tires *duh* so you might want to regear, especially considering gas prices now. if you went 8 inches you'd probably run 35s unless you wanted to cut. then you would NEED gears. the lift doesn't necessitate gears but the bigger tires that you run with the lift make you need them. 9/29/2005 9:31:40 AM |

it also depends on the model jeep as to the need of the sye. if you were thinking wrangler, then yes 4 inches is usually when you would want to invest in a sye, but being that he has a cherokee, he has a longer rear driveshaft. so he can go a little bit higher before he needs to get the sye. 9/29/2005 9:32:51 AM |

yep, the guys at crsu and goferit are some of the best around. we have some really quality 4wd/fab shops in this state, i can't really think of any off hand that i wouldn't trust my vehicle to if i didn't have my own place. except for we do trucks, if you can even consider them a 4wd shop.

for mild work around your farm i see no reason to put on a 1-2" body lift. i dont even think u can get a 1" body lift unless you make it yourself. just put some tires on there if u need them an dlet them scrub a little, hell you can fit 31s and that should be plenty around the farm.

^^ A body lift may prove to be difficult depending on the condition of your mounting bolts. If your YJ is really old/ rusty/ etc it might be hard to pull them out. Other than that, you need a jack and probably a buddy, but itd be feasible to do it yourself.
^where did he ask for opinions on whether to buy a body lift or not? Why would you suggest larger tires and "dealing" with scrub?
Since we're all about opinions, heres mine. I see no reason for any mild work around your farm. I dont even think you can work work on a farm anymore. Just let the farm sort of run itself, itll probably suck real bad and ruin stuff, but hell, that should be fine.

travis i think a 1-2 in body lift will be fine, as for the rusty bolts, etc. you should be ok, my roomate's 90 yj was from up north and we still managed to get his body lift on. just get a lot of pb blaster or another penetrating lube on the bolts before you try to unbolt all of the mounts. with some "trimming" of the fenders and a 2 in body lift i think my roomate could clear 35s.
