I don't hate it. I just think it's silly.
Heck, I was confirmed and attend Catholic mass.
^ Well obviously you shouldn't trust what other religions have to say about it. For all the legitimate reasons to dislike Catholicism, the fundies choose the most stupid and false crap.

What if we think Catholocism is idiotic based solely on the stances presented by Wolfpack2K? 10/10/2005 1:40:29 AM |

whoa - i just now read the article.
Quote : | "UNTRUE Genesis ii, 21-22
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man " |
If the catholic church is officially denouncing a large portion of the Adam and Eve creation story (umm, about 1/2 of the story, as far as I can tell), then what exactly are the claiming is the truth? Are they saying that Man was still created from dust and mud? Then where is Woman supposed to come from?10/10/2005 4:23:27 AM |

I have a lot of issues with some of the Catholic theology, but this is absurd.
So they get to pick and choose what they want to be true?
That certainly has to be confusing. 10/10/2005 10:49:54 AM |

as far as the Adam and Eve thing goes... I'm thinking they're favoring science over myth as long as you acknowledge that it all of it was the work some unseen omnipotent force

wow... so you're telling me the Catholic Church is seeking to reject absolutism
but absolutism has done so many fantastic things for us!

ok, have you READ the bible?
Genesis
# God creates light and separates light from darkness, and day from night, on the first day. Yet he didn't make the light producing objects (the sun and the stars) until the fourth day (1:14-19). 1:3-5
In an apparent endorsement of astrology, God places the sun, moon, and stars in the firmament so that they can be used "for signs". # 1:14
God makes the animals and parades them before Adam to see if any would strike his fancy. But none seem to have what it takes to please him. (Although he was tempted to go for the sheep.) After making the animals, God has Adam name them all. The naming of several million species must have kept Adam busy for a while. 2:18-20
# The "sons of God" copulated with the "daughters of men," and had sons who became "the mighty men of old, men of renown." 6:2-4
# "There were giants in the earth in those days." 6:4
ad nauseum 10/10/2005 1:24:32 PM |

read the whole article... its not about condemnation about parts of the bible. Its not strictly adhering to each and every word written by human hands, translated, and rewritten and such and so forth across generations so that the bible affirms one thing over the other.
Generally, it does not diminish scientific claims or notions as the Catholic church did in the past. The church is attempting to reform with the times, as it should. As a Catholic, I am proud to see that older leaders dont attempt to push the power of the Church within the scope of secular teachings. If you want to focus on the story of creation in the tale of Adam and Eve, so be it but without the church saying that this is the way it is.
Progressive is better than stubborn... maybe we can take this to heart here, as we are attmepting to struggle with the words "under God." 10/10/2005 11:18:31 PM |

This seems to be a very well reasoned and purposeful decision. It is meant to take the wind out of those who use the Bible as an excuse for hate and intolerance. Now if the Southern Baptists would do the same we'd really be making progress. 10/11/2005 10:48:01 AM |
