Umm... 30 gig ipod video is 269 education priced... psp is 249 and you have to buy 15-30 dollar umd's... and memory sticks for music storage. How is the PSP drastically cheaper?

Actually most of the box sets these days would be cheaper. Not by a whole lot, but still would be cheaper.

also, every show is already online for free.

The PSP uses a cheap-ass panel.

The dead pixels are everywhere.

and remember that the majority of the cost of that box set is the physical packaging, production, shipping, ect. so even if you were able to get SOME series cheaper than the boxed sets would cost... you're not actually getting a what you'd get in a dvd set (extra features, director commentary) AND it costs them practically nothing to sell it to you.

yeah 2 bucks puts owning a tv show through itunes just under the cost of viewing a pay-per-view over satellite or cable

anyways, just filed the order with my manager to carry about 10 of each size and color. should be here in about 4 days, maybe 5

No. It's like an iPod, only better.

It's a music player that also happens to be able to play videos, rather than a video player, that also happens to play music (which all the other video players out there now are).

It's probably the smallest of the HD based devices that play video, and can hold a lot more videos than a PSP, and can be hooked up to a TV. The drawback though is that the iTMS videos supposedly are only 320x240. You can encode your own MPEG4 videos at a higher res though. This new iPod is also replacing the old non-Nano iPod.

hem, as I said, I don't mind getting illegal tv, but other people do. same with music. why do you think the itunes store is so popular? also, less internet savvy people don't know HOW to download illegal tv, even if htey do want to.

for the "regulars" among us, this is a big deal. trust me.

Wow, 3 hours of video playback.
Did they increase the RAM to decrease HD spinning? Video pretty much requires the HD to spin constantly ... I'd have thought it would have killed the battery life more than that.

so there's a new "Video" label in iTunes 6, and you can sort videos by movie, music video, TV, and podcasts (wtf).
When I started iTunes, though, it told me I needed Quicktime 7.0.3 to d/l videos from the music store. I tried to update QT, but only 7.0.2 is available. But the real problem is it won't allow me to import or put any of my existing videos into the Videos section. Is that only for videos/TV downloaded from iTunes? Or is it now supposed to be a video cataloger for all your existing video? I don't imagine it has to do with not having the right version of QT.

they also charge $2 for a 3 minute long music video, which is too fucking much. I'm prolly buy a few if the were closer to fiddy cent

Umm, you can put videos on the memory stick. And it's cheaper because Sony updates the psp firmware, instead of coming out with the PSP, PSP Color, PSP Video.

Yea because you can't just return it for another one The pixels were DOA dead, so you know as soon as you turn it on. It *may* be cheap, but it's a hella lot larger than the ipod's with a higher res screen and much better refresh rate.

Now I will say that the downloading TV episodes for 2 bucks a pop is fucking GENIOUS. If it indeed support mp4, I will be raping those for my PSP. But the fact remains, Apple is bilking every one of you out of ANOTHER 300 bucks for a product they could have just made like this in the first place.

There have already been Video Podcasts floating around for a while.
Just small videos that are handled like podcasts - automatic updates and downloads. I've seen a couple of different ones floating around.

In iTunes 6:

^^ Multifunction devices are okay as long as they perform their tasks well. It is rare that a device that tries to do everything does even one thing very well.

I've been able to get it to import some of my existing movies. It doesn't seem to accept drag-and-drop, but it will import them using the "Add to Library" option (Cmd-O).
Of course, the files have to be Quicktime playable files (mov, mpg - no wmv or real)

If you have auto-organize turned on, it places the video files inside of your regular music folder hierarchy. Seems like a very strange place for it. Metadata tags are available for the videos, so you can name the Artist and Album and Genre and all that regular stuff.

There are two options for playback - within iTunes window and in separate window.
"Within iTunes Window" will play the video in that little thing in the bottom left that's used for displaying cover art. If you click on that while it's playing, it will open up a new window for you. However, if you go back to your library and click off of the video you are playing, the separate window disappears, but the audio keeps running. I can't decide if this is a bug or a feature.
"In Separate Window" will automatically play the video in a separate window, and you can go back to your library and navigate around with no issues.

There are 2 navigation options: List View and Icon View:

adding video and subtracting much utility. I can play the audio on any computer/stereo/mp3 player anywhere. I can play the video on 3 machines running linked copies of itunes. I listen to music all the time but would very seldom sit and watch videos.
so yes, an audio track I would use tens/hundreds of times is worth more than a video I might watch 10-15 times ever.

but if you had one of the new ipods you could play the video wherever you went, and listen or watch when you wanted to... which I think is the idea. it's not aiming at people who are downloading music videos to watch on their machine, but people who are downloading a song for their ipod that basically has added video content as well.
