Look.

A bond girl isn't supposed to be super smart. Halle Berry sucked ass as a bond girl.

Put Jessica Simpson in, give her 2 lines, and call it a day.

If she doesn't say a god damn word we'll all be happy.

Jessica Simpson cannot play Vesper Lynd

she just can't

it'd be more of a mockery than Denise Richards playing a nuclear scientist

[Edited on January 17, 2006 at 2:03 PM. Reason : this movie will and has to be different]

"Wales, Scotland, and England were all distinct countries/kingdoms for hundreds of years, and still have very distinct accents and cultures, although that is something that is beyond most Americans."

Quote :
"It is the same idea, but England, Ireland, and Wales were individual countries for longer then Texas has been known to exist by the white man."

Actually that would depend on what you mean by individual countries. In terms of existing as individual states. While the English monarchy dates to the 10th century its cohesion and borders have shifted throughout that period, including notably partial conquests of both Wales and Ireland dating from not long after Norman conquest. Wales was rarely more than a group of principalities that only really united to stop the conquests or the "English", Wales as a whole has been part of England since the 13th century and never existed as a separate entity before that as the unification was only really the north and western parts that hadn't been conquered.

In terms of existing as individual nations the picture is even muckier, but your suggestion of accents differentiating them is difficult as accents change dramatically even within the regions of the British Isles you describe. In terms of distinct languages, Welsh for instance had nearly died off after WWII with only a few hundred speaker but since went through a recovery for a number of reasons. English itself is a hybrid of French, German, and Latin based languages which speaks volumes for the trouble of suggesting a stable national identity.

Also you could consider that the conception of modern nation states didn't really take hold until the 17th century at which time both Ireland and Wales were ruled by the English.

Speaking in cultural terms, I would argue that first there are distinct cultural difference between regions of the US, indeed considering the number of influences from different cultures and the sheer size of our country, its slightly mind boggling to suggest that it would be more homogeneous than a nation roughly the size of Wisconsin. Secondly, culture is something that is constructed through a variety of factors. But considering that the UK is geographically more consolidated and has existed as a single unit for longer than the US it seems doubly odd to suggest that the cultural differces in the UK are anything but "imagined".

You might try looking at Benedict Anderson's Imagined Communities for a start, its relatively short, cogent, and compelling.

However saying that these things are imagined, or constructed is not to suggest that they are not a potent part of the everyday world so I wouldn't quite dismiss them as meaningless.

It sucks that Q won't be in it, but as he (or Bond's reliance on gadgets) didn't appear until thunderball, that's at least being true to the source material, for whatever thats worth.

If Jessica Simpson or Britney in this movie it will guarantee my not seeing it until its on cable.

the girl in this movie is very important

it's one of the things they CANNOT mess up

if you've read the novel you know why

though i do think she's a little young...if she was about 3-5 years older she'd be perfect as far as looks go

the other problem with her character will probably be that they incorporated parts of her character in the last few movies so some people might see is as redundant...which is a shame because, let's face it, the brosnan movies were cheesier than they should have been

Is this movie going to be true to the Casino Royale novel?

This would be a very different Bond movie, indeed.

I saw that Rachel McAdams even was being considered for the role. I haven't seen this chick before.

"Craig's Teeth Knocked Out

New James Bond star Daniel Craig was left toothless and bleeding when a fight scene for upcoming movie Casino Royale went horribly wrong. The British actor, who was shooting in Prague, Czech Republic, had his London-based dentist flown out to fix caps onto his broken teeth. Craig now has to sport gum shields during action scenes for protection. An insider says, "Daniel was filming with some minor actors when he got hit in the face. He was reeling from a heavy blow and staggered back holding his face. He put his hand to his mouth but the blood started to seep through his fingers - it was horrible." "

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060222/ap_on_en_mo/bond_protest

NEW YORK - They're shaken, stirred and just plain angry. And several months late with their response. A group of James Bond fans have launched a Web site, http://www.craignotbond.com, to protest British actor Daniel Craig replacing Pierce Brosnan in the 007 film franchise, and boycott the upcoming Bond movie "Casino Royale."

The fair-haired Craig, whose recent screen credits include "Munich" and "The Jacket," was tapped last October to play the secret-agent icon.

"EON Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond," said a statement on the site. "To add insult to injury, EON cast a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond."

"Craig, described by The New York Times as having a 'pale, flattened face and large, fleshy ears' is a terrible choice for Bond. If EON Productions and Sony Pictures will not accept they've made a big mistake, then Bond fans promise to boycott Casino Royale!"

Calls by The Associated Press to EON Productions and a representative for Craig were not immediately returned on Tuesday.

Brosnan stepped into the shoes of dashing predecessors Sean Connery and Roger Moore to play a blue-eyed, dark-haired Bond in "Tomorrow Never Dies," "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day."

In its statement, the Web site claimed EON did not want to pay for Brosnan or other high-profile actors Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen as replacements.

Did Bond have the Bentley in Casino Royale? I thought the Aston Martin made its debut in the Goldfinger novel.

I mean, if they are going to cut out Q and Moneypenny...

James Bond as a series is dumb because they make the best movies after they either throw out the old actors or the old ones leave

then the best movies aren't the best anymore because they have someone who isn't recognized as James Bond

OHMSS would have been golden with Connery

The Dalton flicks blew b/c it was the 80s and people just gave up caring. I personally liked Dalton, he shoulda had at least one more movie...

This is the movie Brosnan wanted to make...instead he got one decent movie, and three sub-par, cheesy, formulated films
