1) Randy Moss- NO one can do what he does. NO ONE.
2) Steve Smith- Can turn average catch into a huge gain
3) TO- Physical and finds a way to get open
4) Chad Johnson- Hes hilarious and good
5) Marvin Harrison- Great Wide out but has a great QB to go with him

^Yes let me revise my list.
1) Torry Holt
2) Jerricho Cotchery
3) Koren Robinson
4) Philip Rivers (imagine if he got traded to the Jaquars and could be like matt Jones the arkansas QB and become a reciever!)
5) Randy Moss

the best recievers in order are moss, TO, Chad johnson, TD catch leader steve smith and then last of all marvin harrison. Smith could be number 2 or 3 but he needs a few more years of productivity to be the best.

Stein, I might be a slight Panthers homer when I give Smith his props...you know, biased hometeam cheering...throwing out dumb stats like most touchdowns in the league

but you're 10x the homer for the Redskins...I mean Moss is a top 5 receiver no doubt...too bad its Randy Moss

I'm a Packers fan.

I was only using Moss as an example because much like Smith he's apparently

I don't think Santana Moss is a Top 5 receiver either.

Yeah, I've been going through some of the major sites and haven't found it. Nor do I care to keep looking. I'll accept Smith is above average, but I don't really find him terribly special.

Bunch of Carolina Panthers Homers over here. Good lord.

My list. And just to make sure, I mean these are the top 5 receivers in the NFL, not just this year.

- Terrel Owens
- Randy Moss
- Torry Holt
- Chad Johnson
- Marvin Harrison

^Stephen Davis, Deshaun Foster, Rod Smart, and Nick Goings will all be in the top 5 just to save you time. Tomlinson is probably the 5th best back after those guys.

terrel owens- best all around
steve smith - more productive than moss
randy moss

ward
harrison

I would not pay millions of dollars for Steve Smith.

If i was building a team I would pay millions of dollars for Moss and Owens...then maybe Holt. Moss and Owens are game changers. Holt can be a game changer...but Moss and Owens are just better playmakers.

And if I were looking for younger guys to build teams around I would go after the duo in Arizona...Fitzgerald and Boldin. Boldin is a beast and a great possession receiver. Fitzgerald is like Moss and Owens...you just throw it up to him and he gets it. And Calvin Johnson in two years.

thats crazy

let me tell you why smith is better than moss

both score touchdowns, both are fast

but smith can take a hit
and he doubles for a great punt returner

You are smoking crack if you think Steve Smith is a better receiver than Randy Moss.

Just to break it down to basics...What are wide receivers suppose to do?? Catch the football. That's it...bottom line.

If you put Steve Smith and Randy Moss against the same DB with the same QB...who is going to have the better chance of coming down the ball?? Randy Moss. End of discussion.

I'm glad Smith can take a hit. Maybe he can be a tackling dummy when he retires.

Apparently the NFL Live guys think pretty highly of Smith-- they said something along the lines of him being the "best reciever in game as of right now."

Wouldn't go that far, but you can't deny the guy is arguably the best receiver in football when the ball's is in his hands. Rarely will you see him brought down by one guy in the open field.

How bout it's like choosing between lobster and steak and a ten-ten buffet.

A ten-ten buffet is great when you're starving and you don't have a lot of money to spend. But when you have unlimited cash flow, you're going to get the lobster and steak every day.

And Moss and Owens can run every kind of route that Steve Smith does and run them just as well. You just seem the get more deep balls because they are better at getting deep balls. If Steve Smith was a better deep ball threat, then they would throw it to him down there more. But the fact that the DBs are just as tall as he is doesn't bode well for a "throw it up there and he'll come down with it" kind of throw.

^^ im sorry but you are wrong

Steve Smith's touchdown against Arizona last week only one other WR in the league could have done...(Dante Hall)

Randy Moss is not elusive in the open field anymore. He is almost strictly a fly route guy now. He averages 24 yards a catch and thats tremendous, but he only catches 4-5 balls a game.

He IS better than Steve Smith but not by much. At this point in time you can contain Moss by double teaming him every play... however no one has really found a way to contain Steve Smith yet this year....

Steve Smith isn't the deep ball threat Moss is, but he can go up and get the ball if he has too.

He showed it in the playoff game against Dallas in '04 on the way to the Superbowl. Jake lobbed it up from about 35 yards out, Smitty jumped 37 feet in the air and came down with the ball in endzone, abusing the helpless DB. That's sure as hell taking a "throw the ball up and he'll come down with it" mentality.

Both Moss and Steve Smith are capable of creating 60 yard TD's

The difference is with Moss you have to complete a low percentage deep ball.

WIth Steve Smith a simple slant route can do the trick.

Boldin and Fitzgerald would be badass if Kurt Warner wasnt old and hurt or Josh McCown was worth a shit.

I remember when he got drafted late because teams passed up on him being a good WR since those dual threat players before him have sucked it up.

I'm sure there are a good number of teams that are sorry.

2. Holt
3. T.O.
4. Harrison
5. C. Johnson

rounding out top 10 in any order would be Ward, Fitzgerald, Boldin, Smith, and Santana Moss (just cause he has bailed out my fantasy team a couple of weeks)

I'm just saying that you can argue until your face is blue on who has the best moves (Moss can make people miss just as well as Smith), who runs faster (we all know Randy's documented speed and jumping abilities), etc...

But when it comes down to it, if you need a big pass play you're going to want guys like TO and Moss who can go up and grab a ball over two defenders if needed. I'm glad that Steve Smith has been able to do that a few times in the past few years...but Moss and TO can do it a couple times every game. I'd rather want to be able to throw it 40 yards down the field and have Randy Moss catch the football than throw a 5-yard drop off to Steve Smith and hope he can make 5 defenders miss so maybe he can get 40 yards.

^can't disagree with that. I just think too many people on this thread are putting too much weight on this season (along with Panther bias) in determining who are the top WRs in the league. Santana Moss is also having a better year than TO and Randy.

Anyone got a problem with Steve Smith now?

He's got a good shot to break the all time record for rec. yards in a season (1,848).

He's either #1 or #2 now probably along with TOwens...

and btw, his one handed catch today alone was enough to throw out the "no hands" myth

yeah Steve Smiths catch today was absolutely sick...

and the fact that he almost crawled in from the ten yard line on his hands.... my god

ive never seen anything like this guy before.... he is singlehandedly dismantling NFL defenses...

imagine if we had a #2 WR or a healthy RB.... or if we still had Kris Jenkins...
