You probably haven't had kids ... morning sickness/pregnant mood swings are WAY worse I've heard the only real "cure" for endometriosis is to get pregnant, not that I recommend that. However, once you have a kid, they can give you an IUD. I have Mirena - it's a bit painful going in, but it's plastic not metal like the predecessors and it lasts for 5 years. More effective than tubal ligation (tubes tied) and I haven't had a period in 6 months because it thins the lining so it's nearly impossible to get pregnant and there's nothing to shed at the end of the cycle

IUDs are not bad at all

low-maintence, cheap, fewer side effects, and no recurring costs.
^^you don't have to have been preggo to get an IUD. or are you referring just to endo?

I think old-fashioned IUD's were reported to have caused fertility problems in the past, which is why they recommend getting one after having kids.

You can now get an IUD without having had a child. Some doctors still prefer not to insert them but more of it is due to the strings providing a direct access into the uterus for potential infections which can lead to infertility so they do not wanto women to sleep around, so this is where the hesitation is for nonmarried women. However again this stigma is changing. As for the having children comment, this is due to the cervix being a little easier to open due to having opened in the past.

Insertion can be painful but most women find it is ok with just some advil. This of course is dependent on individuals.

As for Sizzle's comment about the NuvaRing, why would you automatically discount it because you are not sexually active? it works the same way as the pill but you do not have to ingest a pill or remember to take it each day or even put a new patch on each week. Alot of my friends prefer it.

Well because, I cannot bear the thought of that motherfucker being inserted in my vagina. Plain and Simple. I don't know much about the sponge, but pretty sure I'd feel the same way about that too. I'm just funny like that, you have no idea how badly I avoid GYN visits and how much I hate pap smears

My three cents...

tri-cyclics: I had difficulty with these because if you miss a pill and get your period, you can't just restart the same pack since each week is different. If I miss one (or even take one at the wrong time), I get my period even if I double up the next day. (Luckily I'm using it for endometriosis and not birth control!)

patch: I noticed no one mentioned this one so I just wanted to make sure people know that this one can be very dangerous if you are a smoker. It's not good to smoke on any birth control, but this one seems to be worse and a few people died.

CONTINUOUS birth control: This is what I do and it's often suggested for endometriosis (I guess less build-up). You are on the pill for 3 months/packs and then you go off and get your period. So you only get your period 4 times a year and they are light. The other good thing is that after a month or so, there is very little PMS. When I was on the monthly birth control, my body started PMS even before I would take the placebos. I think because the cycle was regular. But when it's only every 3 months, your body is not going to know when it's time to start being bitchy I would really suggest going this route (unless you smoke).

I bring up the IUD again because my gyno has a policy of not giving an IUD to someone who has no kids. The good think about this one though is it's plastic so it's less likely than the metallic predecessors to puncture anything. The strings are akin to fishing line, and can't be felt by your partner's penis. Yes, they want the woman to be monogamous, but don't all physicians feel that way? I've had pap smears that were more painful than inserting the IUD.

Weight gain ... doesn't seem to be a problem for me, although I have yet to LOSE all the weight I want to lose. My skin isn't any better/worse now than it was before.

As far as vaginal birth - did it twice. Got drugs twice Better than sawing my stomach open.
1. In labor for 2 1/2 days (yes, REAL labor, not false labor) before the admitted me to the hospital, then they discovered my water had broken and there was no padding for baby. I got a spinal drip, passed teh fuk out for about 6 hours, and they woke me to push. Had at least a dozen stitches.
2. Induced. After they broke my water, they have me a partial spinal - I could still feel where my body was and such, I just couldn't feel the pain. No stitches - baby had a small head

I haven't had any trouble at all on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. After about five months of taking it my skin has cleared up a lot (I used to have hormone induced acne flare ups) and my moodiness is under control. The first few months I had a problem with crying and getting irrationally upset, but that went away after the third month. Best of all, my period is finally regular, which is why I went on the pill in the first place.

Furthermore, there are many women out there in the world who's bodies would be much more fucked up if they DIDN'T take some form of hormonal bc. Hormonal bc regulates your periods and for those women who have regulatory problems, not being on bc can cause cysyts and even cancer.
