This is retarded sorry. Slower than xuqa, it's got all the same useable features, way fewer people, this is a better messageboard.
And I want to know how a) You are going to even afford the bandwidth and b) how you plan to make any money off of this.
The shopping deal is going to end up being a scam and spamfest. There's no policing or arbitration to it at all.
It looks nice as hell though, good job on the designwork SilentIsrael. 10/27/2005 12:21:41 AM |

LOL.. haha Noen, we were waiting on you to roll in with some remarks. Glad you like the site. Sorry but the financial stuff is top secret. But no, we're not charging members to use the site.. and we're not ever planning on doing so. Wolfpacklife.com was created to move away from the stereotypical user-based websites that try to make members pay for advanced features and then swarm them with advertising. It's free, fun, and functional. And there's a big difference between Wolfpacklife.com and Xuqa & Facebook...
We didn't target all of the colleges in the U.S. Only NCSU.. the place and people that we know and love. There's no message board because TWW has cornered the market for that at NCSU. Why reinvent the wheel?

I mean, it's already pretty obvious what your intended revenue streams will be. Good idea, but there are going to be an absolute shit-ton of problems. I've been ironing out legal issues for a site for years now, and it still isn't okayed to even start into a beta launch.
BTW xuqa has 25million in venture capital. That's how they manage.
And the ONLY thing that differentiates your site from xuqa/myspace/facebook currently is the shopping aspect. Everything else has already been done, and been done pretty well.
And I'm telling you that shopping section is going to turn into nothing but trouble if the sight gains any significant popularity.
-------------------
On the plus side, definite props for getting it launched. It looks good. Kind of shitty that you can tell its using a generic cms/portal backend, but at least that's familiar to most people.
On the gallery page, set the img attributes (height/width) in html first, right now its like watching a weird movie seeing the page move around as they load into place. Also consider auto-cropping/padding the thumbnails, it's pretty distracting seeing all the different sizes and ratios.
Also this in your TOS is a VERY SCARY bit. It basically gives you right to redistribute, use, list and sell any information from ANY user on the site.

its absolutely nothing the same;
tdub explicitly states "Email addresses will not be sold or exchanged with 3rd parties."
your TOS says the exact opposite, except with less scrutiny
"We may share your information with third parties, including responsible companies with which we have a relationship. For example: ...Specifically, we may use third parties to facilitate our business, such as to send email solicitations " 10/27/2005 2:25:41 AM |

It's not trolling.
You need to change your TOS, or make it clear to users that they are going to potentially get spammed to all shit from joining your site. 10/27/2005 2:39:26 AM |
MOODY All American 9700 Posts user info edit post |
i don't think you've joined, but as the last comment about this type of stuff in here (by me at least)...not a single spam mail has been sent or is planned on being sent...that part of the TOS may not be completely accurate so you may be arguing a moot point (remember this is only the 3rd day of the site). the goal of the site is to create a thriving community for nc state and the surrounding area through various means. we don't even have google ads on the site and don't plan on it...it's about the user and you raise a valid concern. if any Wolfpacklife.com user has received any spam (which they haven't)...please let me know
we're constantly improving any usability issues that are addressed and if anyone encounters a problem...let us know asap and we'll get right on it...thanks for looking out for everyone though Noen because not all sites are run by respectable people 10/27/2005 2:46:01 AM |

just revise the TOS and I'll be more than happy

Alright Noen... I normally have a very strict code against responding to critics because it always turns into a back and forth conversation that neither side can win. "Normally"....
If you have issues with the terms of service, design, or concept of the site, don't use it. It's really that simple. You keep assuming that there is some lingering master plan to lure in NCSU students and then hijack all of their information in a marketing scam. What would be the point? Anyone that wants information about NCSU students can easily go to the Student Directory and find everything they need. You keep missing the point. Wolfpacklife.com was created to do what other websites will not do - provide a service for FREE without hitting users with outrageous advertising, scams, or un-necessary membership requirements. You are just like all the rest of my top critics - all of which happen to be fellow design students or computer science majors. Formal education doesn't make you instantly qualified to be the judge on all things associated. If you think you can produce a better product... please do...I'm not standing in your way.
Quote : | "I mean, it's already pretty obvious what your intended revenue streams will be." |
6 months from now when we are STILL adding new features and STILL giving away free stuff... check us out so you can see that Revenue is not our goal. There are people who have been in my face all week about ways to make money off of the site and I tell them all the same thing... NO. If we wanted to make money we would be charging for mp3 hosting, band promotion, shopping center, and features like that. I have plenty of playing clients that pay me to design and develop websites. I have no interest in trying to swindle college students out of money.
Our shopping center is no different than an advanced classified ad section. We have NOTHING to do with the transactions that take place between a buyer and seller. We don't process payments or anything like that. People post when they have things they want to sell. We make it easy by allowing them to upload photos, do product searches, and things of the like. But other than that, the rest is between buyer & seller.
Quote : | "On the plus side, definite props for getting it launched. It looks good. Kind of shitty that you can tell its using a generic cms/portal backend, but at least that's familiar to most people." |
.... you dare. I spent 8 days of programming building the site from the ground up. There is not a SINGLE bit of code running on the site's engine that was borrowed from any CMS or Portal site. I have used portals like PHP-Nuke and Mambo before and they always frustrate me because they never do what I want them to. Say what you want, but the Wolfpacklife.com engine code is 100% original... every single piece of it. Yeah I know that's hard to believe since I don't have a computer science degree waving in front of me.. but ask anyone that knows me....
..that brings me to my final point. You don't know me. You don't know Chris. You assume too much. I think critics are something that we have to have in the world, but please make sure you are well informed before you start ripping the site our it's administrators to pieces. Again you are helping prove why I ruled out the possibility of having a message board on the site - to prevent conversations like this.
Wolfpacklife.com was built to be everything that I love about user-driven sites and to completely eliminate everything that I hate about them. I know how hard it is for you to get a grasp on the fact that someone would actually undertake a project like this with no intentions of making money or scamming people.... but such people DO actually still exist in the world.10/27/2005 9:09:24 AM |
