once upon a time in america was terrible.
it was a huge letdown for me because before i saw it i built it up in my head so much because ITS SERGIO LEONE!!!! considering the greatness of "the good the bad and the ugly" and "once upon a time in the west" and how much i love those movies, it should have been hella better than it was.
i have only seen it once. if i watch it a second time and my opinion doesn't change, to record exchange i will go or if anybody wants to buy it from me at a reasonable price that can be arranged as well. 10/29/2005 1:46:59 PM |

most of the movies named in this thread had gangs and/or the mob
i mean, scarface has neither and you dont have problem with that.
untouchables is about cops and you didnt have a problem with that.
usual suspects has neither.
reservoir dogs has a crime family, i dont know if it qualifies as mobsters though.
heat has neither.

Mean Streets, Bonnie and Clyde. You may want to be more specific about the definition of a 'gangster' movie.

How about this for a specific definition:
It has to be centered around the mob/mafia/crime family. I think the Untouchables qualifies, because although it's about Eliot Ness, it's about him fighting the great Al Capone and his crime family.
Scarface is touchy...but there were crime families all over that movie...they just weren't like the New York crime familes in Goodfells and the Godfather.
The Usual Suspects shouldn't be in the category...it's more of a crime movie...same thing with Heat.
I'm now thinking that if you can put the Untouchables in there then you can include Boondock Saints...but for some reason I think it just doesn't belong. Maybe because it's more recent and the crime families pretty much got shitted on the whole movie by two Irish guys who didn't really know what the fuck they were doing. It kind of showed how inept the families were....but I don't know.
No Pulp Fiction, no Lock, Stock, no Snatch, no LA Conficential....but yes to New Jack City.
Does that help anybody??? 10/30/2005 11:12:51 AM |

Watched Mobster's last week and Miller's Crossing last night.
Mobster's is outside of the top 10 and Miller's Crossing should go before or after Casino. I'm thinking before. Damn good movie. 11/27/2005 8:48:22 PM |

For me, the Godfather I and II are the best. I consider them as one whole movie. Part III is decent once you skip the cousin love parts. 11/27/2005 11:27:34 PM |
