(assuming you're logged into your google account, but don't necessarily have G-Calendar open anywhere) Just hit CTRL+; and an AJAX version of the Google Calendar Quick-Add box will popup. Type in your schedule request (e.g. "dinner tomorrow, 8pm") and it will automatically be added to your Calendar in the background. If you happend to have any Calendar windows or tabs open, active or not, they will be refreshed so the event will appear next time you look at it.

Furthermore, you can do any normal Google search (via google.com or the Google Search bar) and phrase it as a Schedule Query and at the top of your results you'll have a new link to add to your calendar

one of the problems with the Google Calendar Alerts is that you actually have to be in Google Calendar to see the alert, which kind of defeats the purpose since you could just look at the calendar instead.

I can't get the IE tap to work with WebCT Vista (Vista only works with IE). Everytime I try to open it, a blank page comes up, some kind of popup that overides the vista page. Any suggestions?

I have used vista on firefox before but some things won't show up. Another problem im having with firefox is that whenever I try to watch a video on CNN.com, it says the windows media player plugin is not available. I have the latest version of windows media player. Where can I fix this?

I've been using it since then with no problems. The new default theme will surprise and infuriate many people, and maybe please a couple, although i've heard that there's been significant work on the theme since B2 was released. It is curious, though, why they don't include the current 1.5 theme as an option, at least.

The updated search-bar manager is nice. The customizable feed-subscriber is nice, but lacks flexibility at this point (you can click the Feed button and automatically subscribe using Firefox live bookmarks, Bloglines, Yahoo, Google Reader, or an application of your choice, but it doesn't allow you to specify other online feed readers like NewsGator. by RC1 or 2.0 full, hopefully you can specify other online readers, or the default list will be expanded).

Unfortunately, they chose to retain the horrible menu GUI introduced in 1.5, called Luna (dark blue highlights, non-bezelled menus, supposedly trying to make it look better with Win XP), so the "Classic Menus for Winstripe" extension is essential for a Native-Windows looks-and-feel - http://www.supernova00.biz/firefox-downloads/classicmenusforwinstripe/index.html

Also, many of your extensions will probably not work, so Nightly Tester Tools is also essential to update all extensions to be compatible with 2.0+

After running Nightly Tester Tools, all my previous extensions, including Greasmonkey and all its scripts, started working. As an aside - each extension has a text file that indicates which versions of FF it's compatible with. It simply states something like MinVersion=1.0, MaxVersion=1.5.0.6. Often, extension authors just put in the current version as the MaxVersion whenever they publish an extension. When a new version of FF is released but the extension is not updated, FF automatically disables the extension because it is out of date, even though the actual extension might (probably) still work with the new version. Therefore, if you have an extension that you like, but the author doesn't keep it up to date with every single incremental change in FF, it will fall out of date, even though it probably still works. Nightly Tester Tools simply goes through all your extensions and changes MaxVersion=*, so your extensions will never fall out of date. Then it is up to you to determine if the actual functionality of the extension still works with the latest version, and if you want to keep it enabled, or if you want to wait for an update.

Tab management is better, negating the need for "Tab Mix Plus" or most other tab enhancing extensions, and the built in spell checker is nice too. The Add-on manager is improved, but I still hesitate everytime I go to Tools and look for "Extensions", which has been replaced by "Add-ons" (encompassing Extensions and Themes)

All in all, a good update. As has been discussed, i don't know if it's "2.0" worthy because there are no new "killer-features", but as Asa Dotzler says, you have to go to 2.0 sometime.

if you aren't currently using beta2 though, it's probably best to wait for RC1 next week.
Also, keep an eye on http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable for portable versions of the latest releases (including Portable Beta2, which is what i'm using)

what do i need to download to make firefox view everything (i.e. when i sroll over a link I cant click it on some sites) like IE does.. seems like I am not able to view everything/click everything in firefox that shows up on IE.. usually always links and DROP DOWN menu's

^ you're probably looking at IE-only pages. Like pages using Javascript or CSS that only work in IE. Nothing you can really do to fix that. You could download "IE Tab" extension that allows you to switch rendering engines inside any particular tab, so if you run across an IE only site, you can just click a button and it will switch to IE rendering right inside FF without having to open up IE.

but this should be very rare for general internet browsing (ignoring, for example, company intranets or something, which are often based on IE only). I don't really have any sites that i regularly visit that don't work in FF

i wonder when they're going to start making some of these nicer extensions that EVERYONE has installed part of the base program like adblock, adblock filterset.g updater, greasemonkey, IEtab, DownThemAll, Mouse Gestures, Tab Mix Plus, Download Statusbar, Flashblock. Those are all pretty standard ones that a lot of people use.

I add on deli.cio.us complete, foxylicious, google toolbar, and customizegoogle but those may not be necessary in a base install because they're outside services people may or may not use.

i wish they could make optimized versions for like that first list as a power user or something and keep their regular installs for retarded users.

I haven't looked in a while. But does anyone know some javascript that will allow me to highlight some text and run a mouse gesture over it and have it search google for that text? There was a plug-in for IE that let me do that and that's the one thing about IE that I miss.

it's not quite a mouse gesture but i just live with the highlight and right-click, which has an option that says "search google for .....whatever text i've selected"
