i was worried about ced after the two exhibition games. he was playin soft. after this past weekend tho, he's show a lot more aggressiveness when he gets it in the post. i hope he can keep that up.
i also like how whenever brackman gets the ball anywhere near the post, he looks to go to the rack hard. even the one time today he took it in from beyond the arc and drove hard. got hosed on the non foul call, but still a good strong move to the hole. needs to work on his shot a little bit tho, mainly talkin about the freebies from the line. 11/20/2005 7:15:30 PM |

What's the dumbest post you've read on this page. One guess.
It involves the claims that "Wake Forest has played good teams" and that "If V was here we'd have a tough OOC schedule"... both ridiculously wrong

yeah, i wish we got our first loss in november too!!!!!!!!!!11
people who want tougher schedules to open the season are idiots. our offense is complicated and relies heavily on timing to do well. i don't care who we are playing, it isn't going to be anywhere near its best at the beginning of the year. it's good to schedule these teams first so that we can work out most of the kinks before facing tougher competition. also, these games are huge games for the teams we play. in some cases we may be the toughest team (or one of them) that they face all season. you know they are going to be motivated to play their hardest in an attempt to make it a good game.
we started out slow against guelph and the citadel, and then we were able to shake it off and really open it up. herb knows what he is doing with the schedule. i have criticized the scheduling myself some in the past, but now i think it's easy to see why we do it.
wake didn't just schedule tough teams, either. they played winston salem state, AND ALMOST LOST. they barely beat garner-webb. they go into overtime against texas tech, which is definitely a tougher team, and they lose a game to florida who is hanging right around the top 25.
hey, maybe having a loss already is something you would enjoy, THABIGL, but i prefer a team that has a few wins to start the season and build some confidence and comfort with running our offense.

My favorite moment of the weekend was when the crowd really got going with about four minutes left today, and you could see Grant celebrating and having a grand time of it, and the crowd just getting louder and louder. Suddenly, everyone remembers how to scream and kick the boards and make noise and be basketball fans.
Why do I ever fret about football when basketball brings this kind of joy to my soul? 11/20/2005 11:09:34 PM |

I only went to the Friday night game. The moments that stick out in my mind were:
McCauley looks and plays a lot like Brackman. Cedric Simmons airballed a free throw. Our freshmen were pretty good. Gavin Grant was a decent point guard. Speaking of point guard, where was Cam Bennerman? Stetson has a guy whose name is Chief Kickingstallionsimms. 11/20/2005 11:37:46 PM |
PackBacker All American 14415 Posts user info edit post |
Cam is not a point guard
Neither is grant
Bethel is the closest and only thing we have, and he's not a pure point either. He fills the role nicely 11/20/2005 11:43:12 PM |

PG rankings: 1. bethel 2. grant 3. atsur
this is based on bringing the ball up against pressure, who i'd most want to have the ball. really, it doesnt matter after the ball is over half court who the "PG" is b/c everyone is movin around and no one really runs the point for us anyway. 11/20/2005 11:57:13 PM |

Bethel dunked a lot last year before he got sick/hurt. In the few early games I went to he was nasty.
^^nothing would surprise me though...he's very agressive and probably more athletic than Cam.

Note:
Just because a player dribbles the ball down court occasionally, that does not suddenly morph him into a point guard. 11/21/2005 12:00:11 AM |

my thought's on the posssible directions of the team since hodge is gone:
1. Grant is taking the Hodge role
2. The whole team is playing as if there is no one person (hodge) that they rely on
the team seems to play well together
but Grant is just a ball hog 11/21/2005 12:08:20 AM |
wolfAApack All American 9980 Posts user info edit post |
^^At least Hodge could handle the ball....and actually played the PG role often. Nobody here should say that Grant has the same ball handling ability Hodge had.
Grant's role should be to penetrate, get fouled or make a layup, or get some offensive rebounds for easy putback points. He makes too many mistakes and is clumsy with the ball if he has it too long for me to think of him as a point guard. 11/21/2005 12:12:08 AM |

Grant has had Julius Hodge like performances so far when ive watched him. I wouldnt call that a ball hog......the kids putting the ball in the basket. And he had 9 assists the other night........anyone that gets 9 assists is not a ballhog 11/21/2005 12:13:36 AM |
CharlieEFH All American 21806 Posts user info edit post |
jules hogged the ball too
or "hodged" the ball rather 11/21/2005 12:14:35 AM |
DaveOT All American 11945 Posts user info edit post |
It's way too early in the season to start calling someone a ball hog.
Quote : | "Grant was named the MVP of the tournament following an inspired effort. He averaged 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists while helping the Wolfpack control the pace in each game.
"He keeps getting better and better," Sendek said of Grant. "He's just a sophomore, but it's amazing what that year under your belt can do. I think he's really playing big right now. He's rebounding the basketball, he's making big plays on the break for us and he got a lot of tough baskets in the post." " |
^and I don't agree with that about Jules. He wasn't hogging the ball, the team gave it to him when he was obviously our last resort on a possession.
