duke doesn't even come to raleigh this year, just like we didn't go to durham last year - the game in raleigh in feb 2004 has been the highlight of my collegiate experience thus far

Duke's defense is much better this year...and they're deep...I really think this team is trouble this year and I predict them winning the national title. This isn't just rah rah Duke talk either...I REALLY think this Duke team will make a lot of noise...we'll get some good indications of that against UCLA and Texas, but I think this team is sick with the combination of talent/depth that they have...Coach K finally gets to play Chess with other teams because he has enough talent to do it like '01, '91, '92

MOODY.. I agree with you. You know I don't 'appreciate' Duke too much but I've said since the end of last year they are my pick for the National Championship too. Good mix of experience and eager young kids with CRAZY talent. I think there are 3 teams that COULD give them a run (4 until Sumpter went down for Nova).. UConn, Texas, and MSU.. but they would have to have EVERYTHING go there way w/ regards to health, academic problems, etc, etc..

It should be a fun year to watch some really talented teams at the top though...

with the nature of the ncaa tournament, saying anybody will win the national championship ever is going out on a limb. anybody can get hot in the tourney and anything can happen. what i will say is duke will be #1 at the end of the season.

i feel the same way about marty and posted about him last month but was i the only one who noticed that rick majerus was in love with his nuts even when he had like 4 points 2 assists.
"omg what a pass by pocius...he is gonna be a star!!!"

duke is always one of the best defensive teams and the extra depth really allows coach k to play the d he wants to play. dukes team defense is better than a year ago but i dont know yet if overall it is better with the absence of ewing. ewing could shutdown any scorer you put him on (hodge, mccants, gray, hill) and i doubt nelson or anybody else will be able to defend that well. but luckily there arent many scoring 2s 3s left this season.

anybody who says duke couldnt win if you shutdown jj is insane. and i dont understand how duke would get killed on boards by nova (a guard oriented team) coach k teams are not only traditionaly great rebounding teams but this duke team doesnt lack rebounding talent in any way. it seems like everyone forgets that sheldon williams is the best big man in the country

ncstate will be a tough game with the offense herb runs but i would be very surprised/shocked if its within 10 (its in cameron)

this duke team has as good a chance as anyone to win it all but they don't scare me at like the 01 or 99 team

Duke's deep as shit this year. Their frosh are pretty damn good.

Their fans at the games are fucking tools. Most of them know dick about basketball. Hella loud though.

We discussed this in another thread recently, but to rehash it, the "Cinderella story" hasn't really happened since the '80s. Since 1989, every team to win has been a 1-3 seed, with the exception of Arizona (a 4).

So while Duke may not win it all at the end of the season (although I think they do look like the top team in the country right now), it will almost certainly be one of the top teams who upsets them.

as for rebounding, i still think anyone with leapers will out rebound this team..they box out well but dont seem to have the great leaping ability...as for depth, yes i agree...as for shuttin down JJ, thats what it takes to beat them, hes the leader..hes the go to guy...hes Dukes icon right now on the court. We will play them well and so will everyone else, i just dont think they are near as good as everyone says...

Big man play isn't as important as guard play in college ball. Look no further than how we beat uconn last year. A sagging defense can take any front court out of it.

If you had to choose between a team of only guards and only big men, the guard team would win most of the time. Of course balance is the ideal, and that should go without saying.

The point is that UNC's inside presence was effective because of their guard play.

Without the great court vision of Felton and the outside shooting ability, May wouldn't have accomplished much at all.
