I agree; I think that "hot" girls are trying to hard to be hot. I don't like being called hot because I never strive to be "hot." I love it when my boyfriend calls me beautiful or tells me I look beautiful. It means so much more and feels more genuine.

Hot - only raw physical attraction. I usually percieve this person as either out of my league, a total bitch, or both. hot is a full body thing: there's no such thing as a "hot face", but hot implies an at least better than average face.

Cute and pretty, on the other hand, mostly decribe a girl's face/personality.

Pretty - just that: an attractive face. Attached to a not-morbidly-obese body. I could use pretty to describe anywhere from plain to very attractive looks. Would be someone who seems approachable and amiable.

Cute - is "pretty" with something extra: an eye sparkle, a unique feature, youthfulness, a sense that she is excited to be alive. Usually an outgoing, open person.

...and I'll add:
Beautiful - "pretty" in a mature/refined way. Elegant and poised.

Look at hot normal women, who are not famous or celebs. They are hot because they are hot, not because of makeup or surgery.

nah, I still think that cute is what you use either when (1) some girl has petite features (oh, she's just cute as a button!) or (2) when your conscious won't let you call her any other form of attractive because she's fat or has a bizarre nose or ears or something but don't want to hurt that person because you've got some other reason to like them other than their looks, which is a pretty frequent occurrence for most people, I think.

beautiful is honestly being impressed by someone's looks. I think people call something beautiful when they're just knocked out by the looks of something. This can be due to clothing or lighting or makeup in addition to how someone actually looks.

hot.... basically just exciting looking..... has more implied sexual value. A lot of porn stars are very very hot without being anywhere near beautiful.

Also, I'm sure there are some beautiful people that wouldn't qualify as hot, but I'm having a hard time thinking of them.... oh ok.... men. not at all interested in men, being an average heterosexual, but you can't believe that everyone picking who is on the cover of GQ is a woman. Those people are making decisions about which men are beautiful without deeming them hot... unless those people are gay..... hmmm....

I guess that within the narrow scope of female attractiveness (as in, excluding beauty or hotness of nature or other stimuli),

beautiful>=hot>>cute

I never realized cute was better than pretty...I always thought people associated cute with young/petite/short etc... which is why I always hated being called cute b/c I thought it was a form of, you look like a little sister, not someone I want to date.

Now that I think about it, and after reading all the posts above...I kinda agree. I think cute is more of the personality added to level of attractiveness, where as hot and pretty you are only looking at the physical features.

yeah it's weird... I've been called all of the above (pretty, cute, hot) by different ppl in different situations...I think "cute" comes out as the one most used. I will say that I don't like when people use "hot" bc to me I'd rather be thought of as something a little less superficial. When I think "hot", I think of friends of mine who wake up every morning and have on some outfit that looks like it just came out of the window of Guess, their hair done and a full face of makeup-- to sit around their house and do nothing.

Not me. No thank you. Im the one that takes a shower and doesnt put on makeup to go to the grocery store or any of the 15000 mundane tasks I dont feel the need to have to dress up for. So I dunno, if I go out and I get called "hot", I guess maybe they could mean hot as opposed to how I bum around during the day...but I definitely prefer other compliments if I got to choose

Gorgeous is the best compliment. That would be that the girl is beautiful in and out, body and all.
Hot is just a girl that looks good and has a nice body that you would bang.
Cute is a girl that has an innocent look to her. She looks good in an innocent way.
Pretty is a good compliment too because pretty means she has more than just a nice body.
