"intentionally failed to act to prevent them" is kind of a sleight of hand.
you make it sound like they are saying the gov't "intentionally failed to act" with the intention of allowing 9/11, because they wanted it to happen.
what is realistic is that the government had some intel indicating that an attack was likely (although not necessarily any specifics as to when, where, how, etc), and that they chose to ignore it (because they obviously can't ramp up to DEFCON 1 every time some piece of intel like that comes in).
now, whether they exercised good judgement based on what they knew at the time is a matter of hindsight and is certainly open for debate.
but yes, in THAT sense, i have no doubt that 50% of New Yorkers surveyed indicated that the federal gov't "intentionally failed to act to prevent them", and I'd say that, while I am not personally aware of the evidence for or against what the gov't did or did not know, it is a reasonable gut feeling.
that's a roundabout, politically correct way of saying "No, those people aren't crazy. No, what they "figure" the gov't "probably did" doesn't matter much. Yes, you are molesting the English language in your citation of that statistic."12/14/2005 6:43:54 PM |
